greg… i've got a mesh that i did earlier this year… it's of pretty high quality (at least i think so!)… let me know if you're still looking, and i'll send it over to you… … joe
i'd be more than happy to turn on the tv next saturday and watch seles vs graf for a couple of hours… i just hope that graf would be able to play at the top of her game, and not let all the distractions get to her… i can't imagine…
i agree with patrick mc enroe being the best match of the day… my only complaint is that CBS cut off their coverage at 6:00 and by the time USA picked their's up at 7:30, the match was just about over… as for agassi, although i love watching him play…
hey, how do i get in on this tennis ladder?… i just got back from a couple days at the open… aside from actually playing tennis, watching the top 256 players in the world in action is the only way to forget about objects, faces, vertices and ipas routines for…
mike… i've had some pretty good luck with water/waves using a combination of bump maps, texture maps, and reflection maps… i've found that creating a tileable bump map which simulates the waves (usually i use a series of "elliptical gradients" — photoshop's feature with an elliptical brush works nicely) is…
scott… are you using the default "IGESIN" command in acad?… i don't think that this works very well with importing surfaces (entity 144 is a type of surface definition)… autodesk sells a more "robust" iges translator that should do much better… but i believe it runs about $1000-$1200… … joe

#animate light intensity?
Message #177431
i'm working on an animation in which an object (a violin) appears fully lit in the foreground while it's surroundings (a room) gradually gets brighter and brighter, as if someone is turning up a dimmer switch… since i can't change the lights' intensity over time, i'm having trouble getting a…
#Slideshow programs?
Message #165233
hello… i'm putting together a demo diskette containing a bunch of still images… does anyone know of a decent, low-cost "slideshow" utility for this kind of application?… something capable of basic transition effects (fades, wipes, etc.) would be nice… i've been able to find a couple here on compuserve, but…
john… thanks for the reply… i'd like to send over an STL file sometime next week… one last question… what will the price be for Interchange for Windows? thanks… joe
john/syndesis… does your translation program include STL format or a surfaced IGES format? if so, how well do these files translate into 3DS? i know that the STL files are basically triangulated meshes… will these produce extremely complex models in 3D Studio? is there a way to demo this program?…

Message #132716
i'm currently working on a project which includes rendering candles in a solid glass candleholder… i've managed to create some decent glass materials, however they all seem to work well only for thinner walled objects, such as windows or cups… does anybody have any suggestions for how i can get…

john, i'd also be interested in the STL IPAS routine… i'd be bringing STL files in from Hewlett-Packard's Solid-Designer solid modelling package… i assume the geometry should transfer accurately… is there any "clean-up" work that needs to be done after bringing the data into 3ds? could you let me know…

#POV vs. commercial
Message #26139
I am currently in the market for rendering software, and would like to give POV-Ray a try before sinking $500-$3000 into a commercial package. I work in an Autocad environment and would like to continue using Autocad as a modeller. I'm aware that there is a DXF-to-POV utility available. How…
