While sorting through some "good junk" this weekend I found a Sharp JX-100 mini-flatbed scanner I had purchased for my A500 several years ago. I remember this model being used for all platforms (Amiga/PC/Mac) with the right driver software for each system. I'd love to play around with it on…

(checking under the hood)hmm, this A500 (rev 6A on the board) uses a Panasonic drive, would that be transferrable to my friend's 2000? I'm replacing it w/the 100-megger hd from my pc. Peter

My previous response got lost back there in the shuffle, I was stating the Nanao for the best choice of the three, it's quite the pleasant and easy-to-use monitor. Peter

I've been able to use the BJC-600 here at the store in side-by-side trials against the HP550C, and as I've said before, the kindest I can say about the HP engine is that it's old. The BJC-600, while not a replacement for the 800 series, seems to have a similar…

You should use the EpsonQ driver, I believe that is what the te Canon emulates, and any standard 25-pin to Centronics cable should work. Also check out the libraries, I believe there are quite a few good Canon-specific drivers for the Amiga here.

I have been fortunate enough to see the 600 in action side-by-side with the DJ550C, and to be kind to HP, their printer is very old. The 600 is of a far superior design (new from the drafting table up), versus the tacked-on fixit job the 500 series has become.…

10 times "faster"? Is this in terms of clock speed (if so, there is no way it can be possibly be certified Class B, too much RF noise) or actual throughput (MFLOPS, MIPS)?

I'll answer the second question first: I didn't go for an '030 because I don't want to pour any more money into this system than I need to (saving up for a 1200 with '030/040 if possible), and the Supra seemed to offer the best performance for the dollar. I'm…

The Supra comes with both a hardware switch and a software switch, which can be used at any time, although the aforementioned cache problem forces me to switch on high speed _after_ enabling the expansion memory, but overall I have found the accelerator a worthwhile addition to the system, and…

I've got the Supra accelerator, and it works well if I don't activate the upper memory on my AdRam card, otherwise I have to disable the cache and it makes it faster, but not as much. They say it has something to do with needing 4megs of contiguous RAM for…

I have been using a Zoom VFX V.32bis modem for the last two months and have not had a single problem (connection or otherwise) with it. Actually, a small card with it requested that one dial a high-speed line first thing with it after hooking it up before setting it…
A570 and MSDOS MSCDEX? Message #103790
From: Peter Cooke Amiga User Forum · Forum Business/Help June 14, 1993 6:12 PM
Is there a software utility out there that will allow me to use my A570 CD reader with my ATOnce+ 80286 emulator, or can I just load the MS-DOS file MSCDEX.EXE in my autoexec.bat file? Is there a hardware upgrade available for such an item? Any information on this matter…

I don't have much time here, so I'll be extremely brief. Does anyone know why the A570 prevents the Guru from showing whenever there is a system crash? thank you for your time.

Anyone who tells you that is just trying to sell you a PC or Mac system, just tell them if they can't say anything good about these machines they should just be quiet and go away. Peter (former 386 user)

I've ordered the supra28 myself, will publish my own experiences with it when it arrives. currently using AdRam 540/w4megs, 1 chip, an ATOnce, and the A570, any incompatibilities will be noted. The main speed increase you'd get in using an '030 is the larger register set and "wider" memory access…

I have recently added an ICD AdRam 540 board to my A500 (revision 6A on the board), and am pleased with the results. However, I have also attempted to add the Vortex ATOnce+ 80286 processor board to the 68000 socket and have encountered several extremely upsetting and annoying problems. Upon…
#Proprietary Memory? Message #90974

I can't remember where I read it, but someone mentioned that certain [AGVP peripherals utilize some sort of proprietary memory. [After examining the expansion sockets on their devices, specifically the A1230 Turbo board, it seems that they use the industry-standard 72-pin socket. Far from being proprietary, it is simply a…

Hello, and thank you all for the great help and suggestions I've been receiving (it's making the MS-to-AmigaDOS transition a lot less painful!). To help cut down on my forum visits, I have been searching for a good (read "reference standard") AmigaDOS manual, one that has not only well-laid-out syntax…

thanx for the info, will have to look further into this system. Though I still heavily admire the intel-based PCs I am astounded at the multitasking/multi-I/O capabilities of this machine, and now know that Bill Gates's vision is seriously flawed in the Windows department (4 megs for adequate multitasking, indeed!).…

While perusing the inner workings of my A500 (rev 6A on the board) in anticipation of a hardware upgrade, I noticed the legend "512k/1 Meg" heading a bank of 256k x 4 chips. What was intriguing about this was that only 4 DIPs were visible, the other "sockets" being filled…

sheesh, it is most definitely a pity the Inboard won't work w/BridgeBoards, since it is the only one that is a true DX (full 32-bit data path, 4 Terabyte virtual memory) as opposed to SX cards like SOTA's model. As to price, I almost purchased the SOTA card since it…
