I have a TARGA 16/32 for sale. Does this help? KC
Why only the San Francisco area? We can e-mail, and fax back & forth! I see no road block here, even though I'm from the Atlanta area. You might be closing yourself off to a lot of great talent by limiting yourself to one geographical area. The world has electronically…
OK, Thanks. . .I'll go try this immediately and let you know what the prognosis is. KC
No. But…I have switched from QEMM to 386MAX, and I've upgraded from DOS 5.0 to 6.2 since I last used Ani.
#Animator Pro Quit Workin
Message #115839
Just lately, when I tried to get into Animator Pro, I received a message saying "System Halted" and my computer locked up. This happened immediately after I typed "ANI". I even tried re-installing the program. Any ideas??? KC
Yuck!!! I hadn't thought about factory disks being infected. I just always kinda figured those were safe. Do you know if 3D Studio will ever come on CD-ROM? T'would be nice! KC

I was FINALLY able to get through to Adesk today and they advised me the same way you did. I haven't ever had that happen before with installation disks. Kinda wierd! Thanks, KC
That's what I figured. I didn't know if I should call Adesk first or what. Thanks, KC

Jonas, I just purchased my own copy of 3D Studio r3 for home the other day. When I went to install it tonight, it gave me an data error on disk 5. I did a surface scan on this disk and it is damaged somehow. I tried to call Autodesk…
Angelo, Thanks, sounds pretty good. From all the responses I've gotten, it seems everyone is in agreement on the fact that just the IPAS Browser alone is worth the $199! KC
Very Cool!
That would be nice! It would be great to be able to see your textures before applying them, I imagine it would save a bunch of time. Thanks, KC
That's true, it's almost worth it just for the image browser! KC
Texture Universe
Message #94639
Has anybody actually seen or used this CD-ROM of textures? Is it any good? I've heard that it's ok, but not worth $200. I'd be interested to find out.
Thanks, I'll try it! KC
That's even stranger. . .I have NO problems in any other programs. . .It works BEAUTIFULLY!!! That's why I can't imagine that it would be the tablet, since it seems to be stable everywhere else. I have Fractal Painter, and with the pressure sensitive stylus, it feels just like being…
Well, I don't think so. I rememer installing the tablet and seing the driver software date as being 1991. It's probably not the latest. I can't believe WACOM wouldn't have more up-to-date drivers to send with such a new tablet. Go figure! I tried to get onto a WACOM forum,…
WACOM Tablet
Message #92869
Well, It's me again. Tried the tip you gave me at work today, no luck! We have 2 computers with these tablets, and neither one would respond. I even tried all variations other than 1 or 3 buttons. . .nothing worked. I know these tablets are supposed to work with…
WACOM Tablet
Message #92678
OK, I'll try that tomorrow! I'll let you know if it worked out. Thanks, KC
Yes to all. The only difference for me is that I've got a pressure sensitive stylus. Other than that, I can't imagine what could be wrong.
#WACOM Tablet
Message #92449
We just purchased a WACOM UD 12 12 tabet, and cannot get it to work in 3D Studio. We've gone through everything in the manual for setting it up, and nothing works. The WACOM folks say that the tablet must be too new for r3. Is this so? If so,…
I've heard great things about ATI cards, and everybody recommended it to us. We've got 3 computers with these cards! 2 of which are 486's, one a 33 and the other a 66. The 66 won't render RDPADI either. From what I can tell the memory addresses aren't tromping on…
#ATI and RDPADI Conflict
Message #88102
I recently upgraded my accelerator card from a Diamond Stealth VRAM, to an ATI Graphics +. The ATI is wonderful as far as resolution and color, but. . .it won't let my use my RDPADI for rendering to screen for Targa. The stealth had no problem with this. I'm using…
Chuck, That's true, because if it hadn't been for the great deal we got, we wouldn't have purchased 3d Studio at all! I just about went nuts trying to convince the folks I work with that we needed it, much less, having to convice them to spend $3000! After creating…
Okey, Dokey!
That all makes sense. But the only thing is, as far as I know my company (Georgia Power) only purchased, at most, 5 copies at that particular time. But there might have been more purchased elsewhere in the company.
If I had it to do over again, I would advise the company I work for to drop kick the Compaq out our 17th floor window!!! It's been the biggest pain in the butt! I'd take my little no-name computer at home over it any day!
Yep, we followed the book, and rechecked it several times! Really stumped, KC
Another note that seems unfair. . . The company I work for was able to get r2 (back before r3) at a better price than other smaller companies. We bought it directly from Autodesk for about half of the standard dealer cost. Supposedly they drastically reduce prices for SUPER LARGE…
I hear ya!
John, I gotta admit. . .this IS fun! I'm hooked now for sure!!! My husband is beginning to wonder if he'll ever see his wife again!?
RAM
Message #78215
John, I purchased the computer in 1991, it's a Compaq 486/33. I had it working with the 64 megs at one time, and switched out some cards, and added new ones and reformated things, I know this has something to do with it, but still it should be able to…
Todd, I'm using DOS 6.2. How does F8 do this? I'll definately try it! Thanks, KC
#RAM
Message #78124
I can't make my computer see more than 9 megs of ram. I have the full 64 megs loaded. . .I've even tried the himem.exe, and a few other qemm settings. Nothing seems to work. When I did finally get it to see 44 megs, my CD-ROM wouldn't work, it…
Todd, Since I'm the originator of this message on how to find a good price on 3D Studio, looks like I've sturred up quite a bucket of worms!!! I can't believe it's gone this crazy!!! Yowza, KC
3D Studio Purchase
Message #78121
Todd, I'm not sure. The Autodesk guys are the ones to ask on this one. From what I understand as of tonight, is that the Colleges are doing this for a short time only. It looks like you got a great price from your dealer! I called a college today,…
3D Artist
Message #77823
Thanks for the info! It seems like a good magazine so far. It'll be nice to have a magazine that concentrates on 3d and animation alone, instead of having to read thru a lot of other fluffy articles in other magazines just to get to a few 3D ones.
3D Studio Purchase
Message #77822
Well, what I meant was, I would still like to buy a LEGAL version of r2, if there's still one out there to be bought, then upgrade from there. Can't you use the dongle from a legal purchase of an earlier version?
Why is that the case? What's different with the student copies of the software?
Why is the copy you'd by at the student store any different than any other?
#3D Studio Purchase
Message #77818
Don, That's a great idea, I hadn't even thought of that one. We've got some good colleges here in the Atlanta area. I'll look into that one. Thanks, KC
#3D Studio Purchase
Message #77463
I'm looking to buy a copy of r2 for a great price, especially now that r3 is out. This is in hopes that the upgrade will then be cheaper that just buying r3 outright. Any ideas anyone? I really need to have Studio at home but just can't afford it…
The magazine is published by Columbine, Inc. PO Box 4787, Santa Fe, NM 87502 (505) 982-3532 FAX 820-6929 I just subscribed a couple of months ago, and aside from it being published in black & white. . .it seems to be a pretty good magazine.
Look at Howtek scanners. They're made in the USA and if you need any customer support, or any fixes, they have 'em back to you in a flash!!! It's easy, and not too expensive. They're scanners are fast hi-res color. I found mine thru the GE Rentals company. (8 1/2…
