#os upgrades
Message #47266
It's possible to load a copy of the ROM from a file, but of course you can only do this legally if you already own the ROM 🙂
There's a version of Mosaic that runs without a network. I thought it was in the library here.
What I was interested in specifically is whether it will drive a 1084S, and if so, at what resolution.
Mosaic problem!
Message #193198
I'm trying to get Mosaic to run (with a local Internet provider, not with CIS), but I can never get a connection to another system. It says it sent a request to the remote system, then nothing happens until many minutes later it says it failed. Using netstat shows that…
adding a filesystem
Message #46394
I'm trying to install ProfFileSystem on one of my HD partitions, but everytime I try to exit HDToolBox it says "Save failed – not enough space for configuration file." Then it suggests that I should do a low-level format, which I don't want to do because the other partitions aren't…
PPP
Message #185738
I need to connect to a local Internet provider with PPP. Do I need to get AmiTCP, or is there a version of AmigaNOS that has it? If I do need AmiTCP, what's the difference between the registered and unregistered versions?
AmigaGuide to hypertext
Message #183069
Is there a program to convert an AmigaGuide file to IBM hypertext?
AmigaNOS
Message #182993
Is AmigaNOS online anywhere? I used to think there was a copy here, but now that I need one I can't find it.
It only requires a terminal (or a printer) if you don't give it the STDIO keyword.
term 4.0 bug?
Message #158192
Anybody having the following problem with term 4.0? Whenever it opens a screen, whether it be the initial screen or after connecting, the leftmost column, or maybe a little more, isn't visible. To see it, I've got to hold left-Amiga and drag the screen down, at which point it pops…
#GCC questions
Message #42047
I'd like to download GCC, but before I do I was wondering if someone could tell me if the version in the library is reasonably current and stable. Also, how many of the files do I need? I don't need C++, but documentation in ASCII or AmigaGuide would be nice.
Hang on here… I've seen the Primestar commercials on TV lately, but the local TCI franchises have been offering it for a year or so. It uses what looks like a 4-foot dish. I've heard of the 18" dishes coming this fall, but they're not TCI or Primestar.
OK, now I'm confused. I thought Scala was an Amiga product.
I seem to have missed the beginning of the thread, so forgive me, but: What does Primestar have to do with Amigas? The only Primestar I'm familiar with is a small-dish satellite service run by TCI. I don't subscribe (I have the misfortune of being on one of their cable…
#Infotel 14.4k modems
Message #154141
I've been looking for a 14.4k modem, and in Computer Shopper I found an ad for one by Infotel for $105. Does anyone know if this is a reliable modem?
h and .i files for all the system libraries, plus a description of each function in each library. Maybe more, I don't know.
I'm curious as to why you were wondering about it. Is some program telling you it can't open it? If so, either some other program is using it and refuses to give it up, or maybe you're trying to run a program for a newer OS than you have.
It's in the ROM.
AmigaGuide: I believe there is documentation in the AmigaGuide archive. (Commodore decided last year to release an old version of AmigaGuide for 2.x users. It's here on Compuserve somewhere.) The rest of 3.x: I don't know. I doubt you can become a registered developer right now, and I don't think…
You don't need to give any command to run a file, just type the filename!
That must be a newer Zip than the one I'm using. The one I have won't uncompress, there's a seperate file called UnZip for that.
The Amiga versions, for some reason, have Zip and UnZip as seperate programs.
Are you running EPU? I've found that Term doesn't get along with it. If you try to upload an epu-compressed file, it'll get to the last block and then hang.
new FractInt ECS wanted
Message #40974
Could someone upload the current version of FractInt for ECS?
Yikes, they've turned it into "Omega"!
Thanks! This is a *fantastic* program, but the bugs and lack of documentation of what is and isn't ported are making the learning curve steeper than it should be. (My only having an ECS machine isn't helping either.)
I suspect the thing is compiled to load into Fast RAM only. (How stupid can Commodore get, shipping AGA machines with only Chip RAM?!) BTW, do you have Terje Pedersen's address handy? I had it, but then I deleted it because I figured it would be in the program or…
Are you sure the error you're getting is "object in use"? You should be getting an "object already exists", since the MAKELINK command actually creates the link on your disk — it's *not* like ALIAS.
Terje Pedersen's address
Message #40458
Could someone tell me the e-mail address of Terje Pedersen? I wanted to report some FractInt port bugs and suggestions, but he doesn't seem to have left his address in the program anywhere.
Is Internet really case-sensitive? I know Unix is case-sensitive, but there are lots of other OSs on the Internet and I always assumed it was case-blind. PS: Compuserve seems to be eating a number of my messages in the Amiga forums lately. Is this a known bug?
OK, thanks for the readme. I'll send him a message and see what he says.
Yeah, these guys are pretty strange… The program works (though I kept the audio turned down when I tried it — I don't know what kind of sound they're putting out, but it seems to be a different frequency than what they're flashing the screen at!) I can't figure out…
I left this message before, but the system seems to have eaten it! Is the uploader the author? If not, could you get the uploader's address out of the archive for me? I'd like to ask him if he's be willing to lobotomize the program to work on a non-AGA…
Hang on a minute… I've heard of light/sound mind-machines, but what's this garbage about SoftAGA? That was a hoax, wasn't it?
Mine is 5.1d3 (note the 3) of 18 Feb 93.
Are you sure you aren't accidentally hitting the Debug() item below it? 🙂
Unzip crashing — help!
Message #135348
I have a 3000 with 2.1, and the Unzip I'm using doesn't crash. It's version 5.1d3, though I had one previously that also worked. The only one that crashed was PKAZIP, which I didn't like anyway because I hate unnecessary GUIs. Check to be sure there aren't more unzips online…
I have the same problem on my 3000. I tried looking at the source but since I don't do M2 and it was late at night 🙂 I didn't get anywhere. As for the AmigaGuide file, I understand that Commodore is *partially* to blame. I've been told that MultiView (the…
I have an A3000, my terminal program is always using 16 colors but when the problem happens it can happen even if my terminal program's screen isn't in front — and although my WB is 8 colors interlaced now, when I started out it was only 4 colors non-interlaced and…
I have 2.1, and I still have to resort to BaudBandit.device at 2400. I have artser, but I haven't tried it yet. BTW, for Shane, I don't know if BaudBandit.device is on Compuserve or not. If you look, be sure not to get the terminal program called BaudBandit by mistake…
I have a 68030 machine, and I get errors while downloading at 2400 bps! It happens with both Term and JPTC; I never noticed it with JR-Comm. I don't get corrupted files, but I end up exceeding the maximum number of errors if I'm not careful. Using BaudBandit.device instead of…
#38863-
#Clouds AGA
Message #39325
I have 2.1 and it doesn't work. It says it can't open its screen.
disk compression
Message #39571
Is there a version of XFH newer than 1.32, or EPU newer than 1.4, or any other automatic disk compression system other than compressdisk.device?
disk compression
Message #132577
Is there any version of XFH newer than 1.32? Specifically, is there one that doesn't need to buffer the *entire* file in memory? Alternately, is there any shareware version of EPU newer than 1.4? 1.4 has some weird bugs. Alternately, is there any other similar disk compression program? (I don't…
strange upload problem
Message #132442
I'm having the mother of all transfer problems right now. About a week ago, for no apparent reason at all, Term 3.3 stopped working right on uploads. It will upload the entire file, but when it gets an EOF from the remote system it locks up. It does this with…
GNU C problem
Message #39406
I'm having a problem with GNU C. I don't remember what version it is, but it's not current. The problem is this: the only way I can call Amiga functions is to use the inline includes, which eats up more memory than I can spare. I haven't been able to…
I was going to take a shot at porting FractInt, and I figured that it would be easiest to get X for the Amiga and port from the X version, as opposed to trying to translate X calls into Intuition calls (since I don't know a whole lot about X)…
#PD X Windows port?
Message #39296
I seem to remember hearing a long time ago that someone was working on a public-domain port of X Windows to the Amiga. Has anyone heard any news of it since then?
dearchive .Z files?
Message #130293
Compress comes with AmigaUUCP, but I think it's online here somewhere by itself.
I replied by e-mail asking for the formulas, and I never received anything. Did you get my e-mail?
