Interesting how all of a sudden people in the computer press are saying good things about Commodore technology NOW! Dvorak and makes a positive comment in the new MacUser about how the Amiga has had true multitasking for years and Apple is just getting around to it for System 7,5……
I also have this crash frequently even when running what would seem to be failrly undemanding apps like Clarisworks. Maybe this is sign of some sort of system conflict that we can rectify to make this thing more stable?
Hi Jim, I have been trying to get our Emplant up and running. Finally had some success using ROMINFO. The same roms when installed in the emplant woudn't create a useable image (just get a 0-K file in RAM). But it comes up from the ROMINFO capture OK – using…
Sharon, you are the only person I have ever heard that has a running DMI Digital Broadcaster. For two years in a row at NAB their demo didn't work. Not something I'd buy into. You say it is a reliable working system?
What you have got to factor in is how much down time you can put up with. MI MII is a great format, but both Panasonic and JVC do not have very good reputations for reliability. That is one of the main reasons that Sony continues to dominate with the…
Yep, you have to have them. Once, you find them you'll be happy. It's a great board. I just wish those guys didn't fold. I don't remember where I got mine – it was over a year ago. Actually, I'd like to put them my other 3000. So if you…
#A1230XA memory slot
Message #130277
Eugene, I've seen an ad in the mac magazines for a simm doubler that lets you plug two simms into one slot. I can't tell you who is selling it, but you should be able to track it down in the mac ads.
Paul, I believe that the tape drive will not "come up" as a device unless you are running Tapeworm which lets you mount it as an amigados device. I have had some success with the public domain SCSI tape handler here in the libs, but it is a little tricky.…
Progressive
Message #112389
I am having the same problem getting support and I've benn through their voicemail system several times. One time a got a message about technical support and products for the amiga NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Did the fire and then the 4000 (040 accellerator killer) kill them?
I like the Nucleus SFC also, but I am real leary of their editor. From the skimpy description in their brochure, it sounds just like the Video Director for RS422 decks at $600+. For under $300 you can get the Video Toolkit from Abbate for the Mac. I use it…
I saw the toaster4000 doing its anim thing at NAB. I stood there thinking I may never single frame to betaSP again. It looked great to me. Sure, there may be some purist 24 bit single framing needed for some applications – and those I would continue to transcode from…
A little disappointing after all this time to see that they still have lame software that crashed several times while I was checking it out; that while digitizing it dispayed in a green monochrome (will fix this); that until Commodore released SCSI II controller, the high quality modes are theoretical;…
Tony, I also have had NO problems with a Toaster in the A3000, even with an 040, 18MB, a bigger hardrive (replaced 40 with 210) and a Doubletalk network board. It does get flakey if I put the sunrise board in, too. so it lives on another networked 3000. I…
Julio, check out the Editizer, a PC based editor for around $2000. That and the Videomedia OZ are apparently excellent PC type editors that are rapidly replacing traditional boxes. I'm using a CMX300, but for $11,000 grand today you can get alot of gear. Also check out the new Sony…
Great little machine. Only drawback is just one pcm audio channel for insert editing, thus a major problem in audio editing since the afm goes down and comes off with video. You could potentially work around it with a sunrise (rize) card, but I don't thik you can get the…
Just wanted to tell you Ben that having used Photoshop, ImagemasterFC, and Ad Pro – I like them all. Funny thing is that although I much prefer the Amiga, I think the Photoshop interface is alot simpler, better organized, and easier to use. I don't know why you, the Ad…
Eric, I have the Progressive Mercury board with 16megs on board it (no fast ram in the 3000) and it screams (using 60 ns ram runnign at 28mhz) No problems with the toaster at all (also installed inside the 3000. In fact I have a firecracker in the same box…
O.K. I have to agree that I wasn't taking warrantee into account and Commodore has an excellant plan. However, all of my favorite things about my Amiga systems are from third parties – firecracker, Progressive 040, Sunrize, etc.
Excuse me for buttin' in here, but I have to agree with John. Why does Commodore have to come up with its own 040 board (or any other upgrade) when third party developers are doing such a great job. In general, I'd buy a third party product before choosing Commodore…
Need Lucas PAL
Message #25504
I need some help replacing or having a PAL programmed for my Lucas board. Broke a pin off it in a mod and ended up frying it. Can anyone direct me to a source for the Lucas PALs or burn one for me (I have the PAL equations, but not…
Doug, Although not officially sanctioned, Toaster2.0 works fine in an A3000. You do need to nibble the case in the back alittle to get those BNC connectors clear, but if you are at all handy, it makes a great system. I have a Toaster running in a 3000 along with…
Thanks for your reply Betty. This one's new for me. But I will go get the LHWARP utility now and hopefully try Lemmings soon…
#COMMUNICATIONS
Message #20367
I have downloaded the Lemmings Demo TWICE in the last two days and neither of these will decompress! This is a big file 461K and not cheap to download. During the same sessions, I also downloaded other smaller files which Decompressed without a hitch. One thing odd about the Lemmings…
Vic, Sony makes several industrial Hi8decks that are excellant, including one specifically designed for single framing, I believe it is the EVO9650. I sam it demoed at a show doing a great job. I use the othr sony decks like the EVO9800 and 9700s with good results for a variety…
I built a Lucas and it has been a great little accellerator for my A1000. Also built the companion Francis 32 bit memory board with 4 megs. Also great. HOWEVER, the developer and purveyor of the boards has discontinued support, which is a problem since I broke a pin off…
I know, expensive by current standards, but I guess Ricoh is not pushing this product much anymore – favoring the opticals. I have ordered cartriges from some mac mailorder place for around $108. I think I'm going to switch to 128meg opticals for most stuff and a gig drive for…
JOE, I am researching the same thing. I know from friends that they work quite well with their macs, and generally that means fine with Amigas. Briwall sells these guys cheap ($1900 for the one you mentioned). the tradeoff is speed – about the same as an old slow drive…
Sounds like you are using an A3000 or a controller that doesnot support diskchange. GVP controllers have roms that will support this, but no luck on the A3000. I use the Ricoh removeables and have unpredictable recognition of disk changes. Rather than rebooting, I can often get it to mount…
John, I thought I'd junp in here, because of your mappling problem. It is in the manual, I'm looking it up now, but it is a little obscure. The trick is that once you have created your material out of the picture to be mapped and assigned it to the…
Doug, I am also thrilled about Real. It's about time it got some press, because this is the real sleeper in 3D (no pun intended). I've just completed a broadcast animation with it and was very happy with how smoothly the whole thing went. Also used the Nucleus SFC with…
#BATCH Processing
Message #36038
[B [B O [A [B/exit 5 This is something I have been looking for also. When you want to JPEG 250 24bit frames, that's alot of manual labor. There has got to be some sweet little batch programs out there something like DAAM for DCTV, so that we can batch…
Joel, I've used the 9700 with good results. It is a remarkable little editor for the money and produces good pictures form Hi8, especially with the built in ChChroma noise reduction. The main thing that makes editing difficult on the 9700 is audio. On Hi8 there is no linear audio…
Paul, I thought I'd jump in here and give you my experience related to your original question of single framing vs. DCTV anim. Surprisingly good results are possible with DCTV. In fact, a Commodore rep told me they were going to integrate it into the CDTV for improving full motion…
Saw the color DJ (Mac version) at a campus computer show two weeks ago. Real pretty pictures – 300dpi dithered color- an amazing quality output for the bucks (around $699 with educational discount). Does wondrous things with 24bit files. However, the IBM version was not yet out and will require…
Scott, I am using an Omnigen711 with my A3000 with excellant results. It meets all of your criterion including loop-through for the RGB monitor. It will work with stable (camera video) or unstable (VCR video), is the best NTSC encoder for the Amiga I've seen, and also has Y/C ins…

Problems with "SAY"
Message #323
If you have AmigaVision, the speak module has been nicely structured as a control panel with sliders for all the features of SAY. It is fast and fun to play with. -chris
So what HDs does it work with? Also, has anyone run the thing on an A3000 yet and will it work with its internal HD? -Chris e xit
Dave, I did see such a cable in (I think) a Skyles Electric Works catalog last year. Not sure where they are these days, but I'd check the mags for ads. BTW, how does the A590HD work with the 1000. I was thinking of trying it on mine and would…
Thanks for the info. I do hope it is just a physical thing that might be remedied with a skill saw and hammer 😉 Anyways, I guess I'll bug the NewTeks over in their forum about the timing questions anether they have go one running in a 3000 with the…
#Toaster in 3000?
Message #118197
RAD, So I've read some of the dis about the Toaster not fitting in the 3000. Is the problem just mechanical – a size problem, rear opening, etc. or is there some other hitch. If it is just a matter of enough space for BNC connectors out the rear as…
Clint, I would love to see detailed files for the state of Hawaii, especially my island of Maui and the surrounding islands of Molokai, Lanai, and Koolawe. These are geographically exciting landscapes with elevations to 10,000 feet, sea cliffs dropping to the ocean on Molokai 4,000ft. etc. Also, the under…
#GENERAL HELP
Message #117857
I remember seeing some messages a while back about file incompatibility ween the 3000 and 2000 when creating DPaint images on the 3000. Well, I just ran into the same thing and I need some help to figureout a fix. When I load a picture file created on the 3000…
Thanks for the info Arnie. Hopefully I'll have a chance to try it out tomorow.
Thanks Don. I knew there had to be some DOS trick. That piece of info about Icon tools is real useful. I guess I could read the manuals, but I sure appreciate the help whwen I call. -Chris
#Setting up a new drive
Message #115620
Maybe you HD experts can help me out. I'm new to setting up directories and subs ona hard drive. While putting DPaint in a new drawer, I also created some file drawers inside rawer. When I click ona picture icon, I get the message to please insert DPaint in any…
Jim, when using an RF feed to your recorder, you are limiting resolution to a maximu 320 lines of horizontal resolution- about equal to Low Res- and not as good as your recorder is capable of. One of the problems you are probably having is bleeding and dot crawl of…
Yeah, I agree. I have had a few problems also, but the most annoying is lockup when using the fill tool. this happens more than 50% of the time. If I avoid it then I'm usually fine. and if I remember right, it isonly a problem when filling the whole…
Jus, the A500P I just received through the Education Program for my college has 1meg chip ram. I bought it because where a couple of months ago I read that the 500P was going to be the 1meg chip machine whthe other 500s would not. It comes wiwth the extra…
Is anyone using the Omnigen 711 or other Omnicron genlocks? I like the specs and need a good external genlock for use, but haven't been able to find a demo out here. -Chris
