Bridgeboard/CrossDOS
Message #41319
Has anyone seen any demos or reviews of a new software package advertized by the people who make CrossDos? This package is supposed to be equivalent to CrossDos but is software only. The package is called "The Ambassador".
Just thought I drop a note regarding the expansion board availability. I just bought a 384K expansion board with game prot, serial port and parallel port (no memory) for $80.00 mail order. It didn't work since it required that the system need at least 256K. I solved my problem by…
Yes, I've seen it advertised in several mail order houses, the other questions are all good question, but I don't know the answers.
I've heard that the SOTA 386i board works with the exception of the Microsoft Mouse emulator in the Janus 2.0 Software. It's also about twice the price ($480 discount). I'm not sure that the 386 upgrade is worth it unless you expect to do alot of processor intensive work without…
Yes, the RAM disk is "awakened" during the startup-sequence. I like the SOTA 286i alot. The speed is comparable to a PC with the exception of DISK access (hard disks). I use the board's speed with Schematic Capture packages and Spread Sheets. My full system is composed of Amiga 2000,…
My specific problem is related to the operating of the SOTA 286I accelerator in the 80286 mode. When I'm in this mode, the JLINK function fails to open a path to the RAM: disk. I do not have this problem when I'm in the 8088 mode. I think this has…
#SOTA 286I
Message #31454
Has anyone else had difficulty getting JLINK to work in making a RAM Disk when using the SOTA 286I in the 286 Mode?
The program I am refering to is the PCPrefs Icon/application which gives you a choice of Mono Video, Color Video (I set both to OFF) and the location of the RAM at A000, D000 or E000. Select E000 for XT BB. Other than that, I suggest that you try the…
What version of the Janus Bridgeboard software are you using? I have an early version of Janus 2.0 that has a setup program for selecting monitor type and I select off for both. Then I open the monochrome pc window anyway, shrink it to its smallest size and leave it…
Call Waiting/Modems
Message #17508
Does anyone know if modems are still interrupted by the beep from call waiting? I know that they were a feww years ago. I am also aware of an alternate service that allows you to enable and disable call waiting but it is not currently available in my area.
Ihave been trying to get the upgrade ROMs through a local dealer in New York, but they seem to be in very short supply. Also I have not seen any official notice that the update is available.
#Janus 2.0 Upgrde?
Message #8500
Does anyone know of a source for the Bridgeboard Janus 2.0 Upgrade? Mail Order or Store is acceptable. The upgrade should include the new PROMs since I'd like to use the Amiga mouse as a Microsoft Mouse.
Just tried that before I checked my messages and it did indeed work!! Unfortunately, that is only half my battle so far. My TVGA board works successfully with my GoldStar 1460 Plus monitor only in the regular VGA (640 x 480) and 800 x 600 modes. This board should also…
Sorry, that's not what I have. The VGA monitor is hooked up only to h the Bridgeboard. Thanks anyway.

Message #7480
Has anyone experienced difficulty in getting a VGA or Super VGA board to work with their Bridgeboard? I Just installed a JAX-8204 (no-name brand). I can only get monochrome video. I have Janus 1.0 ROM installed. Also, can anyone tell me the best and fastest place to get Janus 2.0…
#Adding More SCSI Drives
Message #5357
Does anyone know how to add an additional hard drive on the external (bus) port of a SCSI controller? Does the port provide the necessary power for external drives?
I don't know whether it works with a hard drive. It does take over the entire machine and takes advantage of all floppy disks attached. The price is $550. PC side has 704K + 64K EMS, Amiga side has 512K RAM expand. Pheonix Bios. NEC * MHz V30. MSDOS 4.01,…
No, its a third party 8 MHz Turbo PC Board that fits in the RAM expansion port of the A500. The company is Pulsar and they are currently taking advanced orders.
#PC onna A500 Card?
Message #101267
The company's name (PC Clone on and Amiga 500) is PULSAR. Westbury, New York. (516)997-6903. Product name: Power PC Board. Here's the spec.s from the data sheet: Video: CGA, Monochrome, Hercules Ram: 704K +64KEMS DOS: 4.1 Pheonix bios NEC V30 8 MHz Clock Calender Amiga 512K RAM expansion included. The…
See my response to #101004. I know the operating system was designed to use more than 4-5 bit planes. I had hoped that they would expand that area first.
#More Colors Wanted
Message #100987
I have one major reservation about the new Amiga 3000. It seems that Commodore is moving in the opposite direction from IBM and Apple in terms of number of displayable colors. This bothers me because I would have eventually liked to have seen a Bridgeboard with software capable of operation…
#World of Amiga
Message #100985
I just went to the World of Amiga yesterday. The show was great! I Commodore had a very professional booth (best I've ever seen from them). They had several Amiga 3000s visible. Psygnosis demo-ed several games including "Awesome" and they all looked great. Another guy was taking orders for an…
Dissappearing Icons
Message #99434
Has anyone had this problem? I have a 49 Meg Hard drive. Sometimes my Icons dissappear when I copy them to a sub-directory. They still exist when I do a DIR but when I open the directory, nothing shows up. Any ideas?
#XT Bride Accel.
Message #86653
Does anyone know whether the "Orchid TinyTurbo XTra 12 MHz 286 board" is compatible with the XT BrideBoard? I just saw an add in a Compuadd flyer listing the price at $279. Sound pretty good if it works. It did say, however, that it was made for dual speed XT…
Well, I think I found something. I am currently using a non-autobooting hard disk and the workbench disk in df0: had some sort of error. The FORMAT command had an error each time I tried to reformat the Hard disk. I also noticed that the FORMAT command allowed the ENTER…

Digital Video
Message #58477
Thanks! Now I don't need to wait for the manual. The info you gave me is exactly what I needed. I will still probably use the Addison Wesley Hardware reference manual since it was supposedly written mostly by Commodore staff members. Thanks again for the info!
Thanks anyway. I found that there are additional connections that are documented in the Addison Wesley Hardware Reference Guide that provide direct access to the digital information. These connections are not shown in the schematics in the back of the A2000 manual.
I agree that the review was very positive on Amiga graphics capabilities; however, I've also noticed that Amiga coverage in BYTE has been rapidly decreasing. It seems that this article was one isolated case in an otherwise IBM/MAC journal. I am considering allowing my subscription to lapse after this year.…
Regarding your comment that they might not have the necessary experience for selling Amiga products, its been my experience that several properly timed bits of assistance to the right salepeople can often result in price breaks on software and/or hardware.
Software Etc.
Message #28460
I just saw a Software ETC. (in the rear of some B. Dalton Book stores) has picked up the Amiga for sales. They are selling Amiga 500s and Software. I didn't get any pricing on the 500 but at least it is back in the public eye. I remember them…
WB1.3 Questions
Message #23575
I just bought a workbench 1.3 upgrade. I'm skipping the 1.3 ROM for now since I feel that two partitions on the hard disk (one old FS and one FFS) is more hassle than booting off on the DF0: drive. Also, the first partition will be wasted when V1.4 comes…
Sounds pretty good if 20 Meg is enough; however, I felt I needed more since I am using the 48 Meg for both Amiga and PC sides. Still $485 is a great price, almost competitive with PCs. One question: what is the access time on the Tandons? (And does that…
#Cheap Hard Disk
Message #13124
If any of you have been looking for an inexpensive Hard Disk solution without having to build the support electronics from scratch, check this out. How's this sound: 48 Meg SCSI Drive for A2000 for $680. I just bought a Pacific Peripherals Overdrive (SCSI Interface) for $220 from GO Amigo…
Sorry, for some reason, I couldn't get the Read Thread function (RT ONL) to work. Maybe I tried to access it from the wrong menu level. When I could not get that function to work, I used the regular read command from the Message menu. I just tried to use…
New CIS
Message #367
I have found that the Read option for a letter is not as easy to use as the old option. Specifically, the read reply option does not take you back to the next menu above after the reply list has been read. (unless I'm doing something wrong).
#Hard Drive Choices
Message #114656
I am considering the purchase of a hard disk for my A2000. I am specifically looking at a MiniScribe 40 ms type hard drive (probably 40 MB). I also own a Bridge Board. This raises the question as to whether I should buy this drive with an IBM disk drive…
Bridgeboard Virt. Disks
Message #112284
The article "The Great Pretender" in the April 1988 issue of AmigaWorld covered the IBM bridgeboard's ability to share Amiga resources through the JLINK command. There were two points that should be clarified. First, the article stated that the command: JLINK C: HD0:VDISK /C:1000 creates a hard disk of size…

Batch Commands in NEWCLI
Message #94976
Does anyone know if there is a way to make a batch file that opens a NEWCLI and there executes a command in that window. I have several programs that I want to run in my startup-sequence. Unfortunately, the original AmigaDOS window does not close until the all "RUN" tasks…

Loading Vizawrite
Message #90574
There is a very good reason that you are probably having this trouble. I had the same problem with my Vizawrite program the first time I loaded it. It turns out that Progressive Peripherals & Software (the maker of Vizawrite) produced the first of the saleable copies of the software…
VIZAWRITE vs. PAGESETTER
Message #84506
I've heard mixed reviews about both Vizawrite and PageSetter. Has anyone compared these two packages? Specifically, I am interested in a comparison of user interfaces and printer support (re: Amazing Computing's review indicating Pagesetter putting out 72 dpi on non-postscript printers). I am also interested in whether the NEC P6…
