meshrez
Message #174642
I have meshrez but I was wondering if there is another ipas that will lower mesh vertice count according to camera ranges, automatically? You know, so I don't have to stop the rendering change the meshrez and start rendering again. -=Mike=-
Actually I should upload some of my work anyway. I'll upload a frame called sailboat.jpg to showcase library. If you like it drop me a line. -=Mike=-
Yep, I made a model of a 50 yacht from blueprint sailing with a spinnaker. If your willing to buy I'll send a . jpg -=Mike=- Maritime Models and Graphics

I bought a subsrciption for Planet Studio a month or so ago and haven't recieved anything. Is there a number to call? -=Mike=-
>>Is this your app?
I just finished my demo reel and would be happy to send it to you. My main strenghs are in modeling and problem solving (challenging work is prefered). I like doing underwater scenes, boats, cars, spaceships, people, characters, buildings, alien cities. I have a Par-board, scanner and 3/4 tape and…
could I get the $ and abilities info? -=Mike=-
>> Then render with alpha ON optionally with alpha split ON. Does that make >> sense? Your right it doesn't. I spoke to soon. But I did eventually get it right. I was trying to get a good alpha channel (not all white) from tga's off the PAR (24 bit).…
>> call up the 8-bit alphas as a 3DS background
I was refering to the 3dForum that is held about once a month around the LA area. But I just checked my address bok out and I thought you were someone else. Anyway I tried out what you suggested and I was really impressed, I'm going to have to pay…
>>What you saw was a specular map
That make good sence. I tried a shineness map but I didn't try it with grey scale. Thanks for the info. By the way I heard you were sitting right behind me at the 3dfurum meeting. Did you happen to notice the mazda I modeled using Multi-Surf? Also have you…
#PAR No Alpha Prob
Message #164833
I tried what you suggested but I'm still having problems maybe you can tell me what I'm missing. First thanks for the info about the wildcard select in the par software, I had missed that before. The first thing I had problems with is that I couldn't bring in the…
#Diffuse Lighting
Message #164821
I noticed at the last 3DForum meeting, while they were showing some Babylon 5 stuff done on the amiga I noticed that there was alot of surface detail on the spaceships and I asked Mojo about that, And he axplained to us that they only used diffuse lighting becouse they…
Thanks for taking the time to make a through reply, it is exactly what I was wanting to know about. I'm going to study this right away and let you know if I understand it or not . The one part that I'm not sure I undrstand is selecting the…
Thanks for the info, now if I can figure out how to make my 24 bit tga work with a 8 bit chroma key in Razor I should have a workable solution. Shouldn't be to difficult. Thanks again,-=Mike=-

#PAR No Alpha Prob
Message #163543
Is there anyway around the fact that the par strips away the alpha channel? Or should I content myself with keeping all my tga's on my regular harddrive until they have been composited ? The reason I ask is becouse keying in on a color for matting isn't cutting it.…
John how ya bean, I'm bout to expoze my works, …com'in soon …. look for credits … .. found a cavern in 3d-s worth exploring ….. have par …. ready for full exploration. -=Mike=-
I have a Multi-Pro converter and it did the job for me. Especially combined with smacker. Smaker compresses your flics for playing real time. Anyway I have a PAR now so I'll sell my Multi-Pro for $150. -=Mike=-
I'm just now puting out my first renderings today and it's tooo coool. Budget constraints made me get the conner's but it seems to be doing the job just fine. -=Mike=-
thanks for the info, I got this message after I had already ordered one this morning. It should be here tomorrow (less than 1700) , have you heard any bad things about using the certified conner's HD? -=MIKE=-

#3ds4 palette prob.
Message #144419
I am liking the 3ds4 but I have some prj. files I created in 3ds3 and the areas that had white matte or white plastic material rendered out black. Also the reflective qualities don't look quite right. I turned the new transparent qualities ON in the 3ds.set file is there…
Export question
Message #2460
>>If Multi-Surf only accepts quad 3DFACEs, and Playmation only exports triangle 3DFACEs, you're stuck.
I can certainly understand about not wanting to fix what ain't broke! But it looks like I'm going for it. I formated my hd's and reinstalled everything without os2, it went real well. I have most everything I need (program wise) and have 300 more megs space. The reason I…
>> laughing at middle names is an American tradition
>>Hey, that is a fun set of initials!
Thanks for the info, I'll try that again this week. By the way what's the "MAP" stand for (that's my initiatials). -=Mike=- the MAP.
I'm not trying to convince ya, it's a pain, but alot less of a pain than it was now that they really fixed it to a great extent. Actually Iwish some third party would come along with a platform that would use the puters full potential but I don't hold…

OS/2 and Digi Tablets
Message #130967
Yeah, I'm going to call them tomorrow it's such a great system to have 3d-s, os2, and wacom but I'm usually hanging out over in dos to keep from wrestling with my puck or syslist. It's very frustrating to be so close but not quite a perfect system. Your calling…
You might try GO Graphdev. -=Mike=-
I'm using a wacom SD-42 that I just perchased recently and it works in absolute mode but that's all, I can't change back to relative. In (dos) windows it has all the bells and whisles but I'm trying to convince Wacom that if they spent a little time updating their…
Man that sounds great!! I just bought a Micro Pro CTV ( poor man's PAR) but it's pretty good, I was surprized. I remember getting a slave session going along while back but I didn't feel it was working quite right and ended up shining it on. I'm going to…
>>What rev of OS/2 are you using? 2.1? and do you run windows with it?
I've only been using a puter for a year and it's been a steep learning curve and os2 did'nt help that at all. But, sence they have worked out the bugs I like it alot. When they sent me the service pack (patched up their previous screw ups) and it…
OS2 been around for awhile and they have most the bugs worked out now. It still leaves something to be desired as far as the interface goes. But at least it's not as fragile as windows, I had to delete half my icons today becouse windows would'nt allocate enough memory…
Over this last week I,ve installed a Multi Pro video output, a colorado 250 mg tape backup drive, a sony cd, a sound blaster 16 cd, and everythings working in dos or os2 and hooked up to vhs. So I'm having some fun tonight outputting my animation to VHS with…
I just bought a tape back-up and I had to buy Backmaster software to back up os2 ($100). I read that same thread which is why I went for it. But let me tell ya, it's hard to find any of those people when you need to figure out how…
I have 20 megs and I have run two sessions of 3d-studio but I found i was more of a waste time than it was worth. I've sort of settled with being happy that I can jump out of 3d-studio – do some material editing in photoshop and jump back…
I'm using OS2/WIN with 3DS and now that they workd out the bugs (for the most part) I can highly recommend it. I havn't had much success rendering while I'm in Photoshop for instance but at least I don't have to hassle with Phar- Lap limitations (no paging, none!). It's…
>>Is there a change for the better when you set this to off?
Problem is solved, i called Wacom and I just have to use it in one to one mode instead of relative while using playmation which is no problem, Thanks, -=Mike=-

material for bubbles
Message #128166
> If you are using R3, what is your New-Subtractive-Transparency set to in your 3ds.set? (On or Off) It's set to ON. -=Mike=-
I too learned much from your article and hope there will be more to come. I did want to take this opportunity to mention that I use Os2 4 Windows and though it's a pain in alot of ways, I have never experienced a paging problem, it just never occurs…

#Sculpture selecting
Message #1134
I'm still going through the tutotials and I keep runing across the same situation. This maybe a problem with my puck. When I go to select something I drag a red box and it won't go away and when I refresh it the object turns red. Is this something that is…
