Hi Dave, I have heard that if you are running DOS/NT dual boot, then you don't want to run any utilities such as Norton Disk Doctor that looks for file allocation errors and corrects them. If allowed to correct, it can screw things up. Is this a possibility? -tyler
Hi Harold, search the libraries under the keyword "meier". I think you are referring to Mark Meier's utilities.

#DEC PC's

Hi Alan, Can you clarify the story with the DEC XL's again in regards to their upgradablility etc. The following two clips are from messages posted to me that I don't think I can completely answer: >>————————————- WHat's that of XL motherboard limitations? It's the first time I hear this.…

#3Ds Classic offer
Message #194995
Sorry Tom, but I think you misunderstood the offer. I think they mean if you purchase 3ds4 now, the upgrade to MAX will only cost yu $495 when it is released… Someone will please correct me if I am off base.
>>If you need back up vocals let me know…2 tenors… Me too! >( I didn't know about this either!! *&%@$#!! I have an xl590 that I was planning on upgrading. I have heard that the xl motherboard reduces the performance of the alpha chip if you swap in an alpha…

Another good method I should have thought of! Thanks Larry. 🙂
>I usually do this with the 'H' hot key. Thanks for the reply Bob. This doesn't work since you can't tag multiple items in the object list using the H key.

>>animator studio will do it. True story Bob. However, I think this gentleman was looking for something quick, cheap, and easy. I don't think he intends to spend $700 to solve his problem. 🙂

FLC to AVI Converter ?
Message #190885
Hi Carlos, I got mine (Microsoft Videdit.exe) off of the Microsoft Jumpstart CD-ROM. It's a windows conversion utility and is free as part of Microsoft Video for Windows. Call Microsoft and have them send you the free Jumpstart CD! (sorry, don't have their number).
Nice fish! Are you a fellow scuba diver?

Hi Andrew, Would you consider a fellow animator from South Lake Tahoe who would be willing to drive your way as needed? -Tyler Colwell Mountain Motion

Hi Reza, if it were me I would create an opacity map in Photoshop by starting with a black image and airbrushing a soft white border. This enables you to control where the opacity is and how much.

#Kurta NT drivers?
Message #186260
Does anyone know if Kurta has release NT drivers for their XGT tablets yet?
I have a DEC xl590 that I would upgrade to an alpha station (daughter card swap) if and when Max/Alpha is announced.

Indeed I run mine in mouse emulation mode, but I am able to scale any portion of it as active that I wish! I just use the scale tablet button at the top of the pad. -Tyler
Hi Greg, PMJI but nobody mentioned that the Par solution is about a $2500-$3000 purchase. Just to put it in perspective. As far as Diamond goes, I would use wincim and FIND:DIAMOND. I'm sure the have a presence in a forum here on CIS. -Tyler Colwell Sierra Analysis Group/Mountain Motion

#Render Frames vs Fields
Message #182175
Hi Alan, Thanks for commenting. I guess I had a fundamental misunderstanding about field rendering. I was under the impression that rendering to fields simply split the image info from a frame into odd and even fields. I had no idea that it also interpolates the motion. This indeed would…
I don't know if this helps Martin, but I had a problem getting NT to recognize more than 64 MB of RAM and was able to fix it by upgrading my bios. Incidentally, similar to your situation, my bios was recognizing all of my RAM it just wasn't feeding the…
#Render Frames vs Fields
Message #181997
I was talking with a video expert this morning who told me that rendering to fields as opposed to frames makes a very noticeable difference in quality (mainly smoothness of motion) when putting animations on video tape. I haven't ever seen this mentioned in this forum. Can anyone vouch for…

Hi Peter, I have MOUSE-SPEED=1 in my 3ds.set and my XGT set for mouse emulation mode. In addition, I use the "scale tablet" feature on the top button row of the tablet to reduce my working area of the tablet to a reasonable patch. Does that help? -Tyler
Hi Dennis, You asked for other recommendations on video cards that work in NT. I am running NT3.5 and a Matrox MGA Ultima PCI 2+ card with 4MB Vram and it works great. I would suspect that the newer MGA Millenium card would also have NT drivers, but I would…
