#14354- #DPaintIII Teething Prob Message #14399
From: Henry Colonna Amiga Arts Forum · General Help April 1, 1989 1:10 PM
Hmm, that's funny I talked to someone the other day who had DPAINT III version 3.05.
#13016- #Fonts/Pagestream Message #13065
From: Henry Colonna Amiga Arts Forum · WP/DT Publishing March 3, 1989 8:27 PM
THere was a company named "Font Factory" that put out top quality fonts for PS. They had a falling out with SoftLogik – I even remember some nasty arguments. I have no idea if they are still making fonts or not. You may be able to find some "Font Factory"…
#32917- Word processors Message #33065
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Forum Business/Help February 1, 1989 10:27 AM
I forgot to tell you that deleting a paragraph in a large document can take Excellence! up to thirty seconds or a minute.
#32917- Word processors Message #33064
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Forum Business/Help February 1, 1989 10:26 AM
Excellence! is an expensive toy. It has very few duplicated keystrokes, many features don't work well – the grammar checker crashes, importing graphics crashes, and the spelling checker makes up words, many features are halfway done (one level TOC and indexing).
#32221- Hardcards for Amiga 2000 Message #33063
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors February 1, 1989 10:26 AM
What does a "mini-voice mail system" do??
#28416 Hardframe 2000 Message #28955
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech · Drives/Controllers January 5, 1989 8:33 AM
Tell me more about HardFrame and why you chose it. Is it REALLY the fastest way to go? I read the specs to larry phillips one night, and he drooled all over my monitor (:-)) but they were over my head…
#9152 Publishing Partner Message #9214
From: Henry Colonna Amiga Arts · WP/DT Publishing January 2, 1989 2:01 PM
Steve, as a former ST-er, I know SoftLogik to be a good and moral and reputable company. I believe they will come out with the product, but I don't believe they have been consciously abusing customer's money. I also think that no one would win in a class-action lawsuit. They…
#9126- Good Recent Software Message #9209
From: Henry Colonna Amiga Arts · Hot News and Rumors January 2, 1989 2:00 PM
I'm seeing "random sprite garbage" with 1.2 also. I find the keyboard the best way to go, though it's still far from adequate. The plane is uncontrollable hell with the mouse, and very close to impossible with the joystick. I'm also disappointed with the graphics – the shading effects that…
From: Henry Colonna Amiga Arts · Forum Business/Help January 2, 1989 1:59 PM
Discussions to which you do not want to participate is always a problem on any forum or local BBS. Learning the appropriate CIS command set, or using WHAP!, is a very effective way to eliminate the problem.
#9102- #Excellence! & WP Message #9206
From: Henry Colonna Amiga Arts · WP/DT Publishing January 2, 1989 1:59 PM
For most people who are wordprocessing, using the mouse needlessly slows down input. WordPerfect has every single command replicated on the keyboard, with a keyboard template. Excellence! has very few keyboard commands – in fact, the simplest of word processing operations becomes a chore – deleting words, paragraphs, lines etc.
#25631- #WB/CLI Interface Message #25711
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech · System Software December 12, 1988 9:14 AM
No I don't want to see all files at ALL times. I want to toggle back and forth between the ability to do so however. Why do I want to see "obscure" files? Well sometimes with Whap! I just want to boot up the raw data files on the screen,…
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech · Graphics/DTP November 27, 1988 9:41 AM
I was going to call that phone number out of curiosity – but it came and went so fast I dunno what it was (and they played the commercial twice in 5 minutes.)
#23142- Sales and Advertising Message #23566
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech · Graphics/DTP November 27, 1988 9:41 AM
Yes – that's very true. Stopping at a dealer, getting info, then going mail order is rape. That's the way I feel after working at a store for three years, and see that happen constantly with software _and_ hardware. There's alot of selfish, greedy people out there…
#Piracy Numbers Message #2155
From: Henry Colonna AmigaArts Forum · Talk to the Trade August 22, 1988 9:43 PM
Simple math – you got 4,000,000 computers, at 50% theft rate leaves 2,000,000 potential market to deal with. Maybe 2% buy the software. That's 40,000 sales. Now, with the Amiga, you got 600,000 computers. A 50% theft rate leaves 300,000 potential buyers. Maybe 2% buy the software. That's 6,000 sales.

I'm going on vaction for about 2 weeks or so as school starts, I change jobs, and all kinds of neat things. There will be an Amy Report 5 in the interim sometime, and I'll get someone to upload it for me. Tentatively planned are a review of Excellence (I've…

I understand that there are several mice in use by Commodore. One of these mice(s) has plastic rollers, another one is the 1000 mouse, and another one is the kind of mouse I am describing. There may even be more. The mouse that I am describing has rollers made of…

Are you using ARP? If so, { is used by ARP for something. Oh well, I wish I could help, but if you are using ARP you may want to go back to Commodore's commands to try this.
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Forum Business/Help August 21, 1988 7:15 AM
Well, three people have had their mouse rust out internally within 4 to 5 months. In fact, it just happened to the demo computer – the painted metal rollers inside the computer rusted and the ball wouldn't turn. Many people have had defective problems with the Chinon drives, regarded by…

I wouldn't buy an A500. It's cheap and the keyboard's stuck to the computer. The 2000 should be your ultimate goal. Buy a 1000 and buy only expansion hardware that can be upgraded to fit into a 2000 later.
#7236 sysops/forums Message #7246
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Forum Business/Help August 20, 1988 6:30 PM
there is an interesting discussion on Excellence in AmigaArts – subject 11 – Word processing/desktop publishing. This section was recently added – if you are using Whap! you MAY have to delete your AmigaArts.SEC file (though if you downloaded 1.3 then you won't have to.)
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 20, 1988 6:30 PM
I would agree with what I perceive as your affirmation of subjective realities and different points of view. It's an important philosophy that most of the rest of the world ignores. Unfortunately, though, believing in subjective reality does not mean that one can't take one's own stand on an issue.…
#7174 #Superbase PRO Message #7242

What's this about Superbase not having Analog joystick support? I wanted to usGPe joystick for steering around my data. Harumph!!!! 🙂
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Tool Box August 20, 1988 7:39 AM
I agree with your general concept completely. However, this is pretty basic. I guess if he comes up with something new and brilliant, fine. I don't want it to slip into the mold of the other DUs with 1 directory, and nothing to overcome that limitation, or it will be…

They are still around. They are a horrible company. If you want more info, leave me a message in AmigaArts-applications, and I can tell you more.
#7085 System Info Message #7166
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Forum Business/Help August 20, 1988 7:39 AM
There is a place somewhere in national telecommunications-land where Atari is present as a "corporate entity." Now, if you go into that place and leave any critical message about Atari whatsoever, the message used to get deleted. Now it gets shuffled around and moved 3 times, to make it impossible…

I had an ST for a year and sold it. I'm very happy that I did. There are a few things I miss here and there (which I make a point of flaunting over here, grin) but overall the Amiga is far superior. Most importantly (forget all the technical advantages,…
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Tool Box August 19, 1988 9:06 PM
One directory open is laughable. ST owners complained they could only have 4 open – with a patch now they can have 8. If you lived with that many for a short time – even on GEOS (as an example, I don't know how GEOS works) 1 or 2 directories…

Do you know of a way to do extensive disk operations effectively with only 1 displayed directory? Show me an example somewhere.
#6907 SW Copy Protection Message #6930
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 18, 1988 10:11 PM
Unfortunately, nothing that I know of right now. I think that Mirror was already behind, and trompled by Marauder when it was useful. There is something called Project D, but I know nothing about it.
From: Henry Colonna AmigaArts Forum · Talk to the Trade August 18, 1988 8:39 AM
Jez, what you are saying doesn't surprise me at all. However, I think it's a mistake for you to say that because of that, StarGlider 2 is being heavily pirated by the entire Amiga community.

#6666 Piracy Message #6819
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Forum Business/Help August 18, 1988 8:38 AM
I agree completely. I never ever say "pirate" either in conversation or in a message, unless it's to use that word in a discussion such as this.
#6742 SW Copy Protection Message #6818
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 18, 1988 8:38 AM
Jon, there hasn't been a Marauder brain file in months! Marauder is practically worthless. It doesn't copy a single new thing any more, and hasn't for awhile. Why Discovery doesn't say THEMSELVES that Marauder is dead, I don't know. They should just admit the fact.
#6588 Superbase PRO Message #6817
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Talk to the Trade August 18, 1988 8:38 AM
Local pirates have SuperBase Pro and homemade dongle. In fact one person said to me "give me $1.50 and I'll make ya a dongle. Take me maybe ten mintues."
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 18, 1988 8:38 AM
How can anyone live life by being non-critical? Isn't that a cop out? How can one hide one's own true feelings? How can one subdue the desire to improve, to forge something into something better?

#6485 #HP DeskJet on Amy? Message #6577
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Printers/Plotters August 17, 1988 7:29 AM
The DeskJet uses the HP LaserJet driver just fine, from what I understand. There is a review of the DeskJet in Amy Report 2 – I think it's AMYREP.ARC in LIB 3.

Yes, then I'd be even more inclinded to buy!
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Tool Box August 16, 1988 9:21 PM
There should be a "find file" option that searches through subdirectories. There should be a "mark file with string" option – IE type in "Interceptor" and the program should step through all files in the current directory (and including any subdirectories) and mark the files containing the string. The operation…
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Tool Box August 16, 1988 9:21 PM
You're not going to open 2 directories? Loud "EEK" to begin with. Not only should you open two, but you should have the option of opening 4 in Interlace mode. Here are some basics that's messed up in just about all DU's. These should all be "right" in my opinion:…
#6384- WorkBench for Novices Message #6464
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · System Software August 16, 1988 9:20 PM
Oh boy. Here we go agaiN! Without the benefit of an "RP" in Whap (which I don't expect it to have) I have no idea what you mean!!
#6391- #Importance of Criticism Message #6463
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 16, 1988 9:20 PM
How can you be an editor of a magazine and strive to be non-critical? Exactly what do you mean?
#6380- #Importance of Criticism Message #6462
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 16, 1988 9:20 PM
No, art isn't "JUST LIKE" invention. But there are similarities – creating something new that didn't exist before, and all the work that goes into both.
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · System Software August 16, 1988 9:20 PM
Well, I've heard arguments for changing the time/data stamp for copies. I hate it, and would never use it, but for those who want it for whatever reason can have it.
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · System Software August 16, 1988 9:17 AM
Well let's take this step by step. You say that you are using workbench-launched utilities to get the job done where WorkBench cannot. Fine. Unfortunately, the "workbench-launched utilities" are loaded with their own share of problems, as I've stated earlier. Most allow only 2 directories. Alot butcher the revered "Amiga…
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · System Software August 14, 1988 4:51 PM
That message really wasn't necessary. If you don't want to participate in an intelligent discussion about WorkBench you don't have to. As far as my intentions, I hope I'm calling attention to what I consider to be an important deficiency in the Amiga as a computer – the lack of…
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 14, 1988 4:51 PM
I agree really for the most part. I'm only saying, though, if I need a Perzny type program really badly, and there are 2 or 3 and only 1 good one that's got a dongle, I'd probably buy it. I wouldn't buy it if it were disk-copy protected.
From: Henry Colonna AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 14, 1988 4:51 PM
I agree with the fact that there are MANY "bad" critics, as per your definition. I 1Mo agree with your example. (grin) But I do not agree with the generalization "for the most part." I think that there are far fewer good critics in computerdom than in other places like…
