From: Carl Hansen Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware October 27, 1995 7:24 PM
Tom… I had the same problem and had to send the printer back. Mine was done under warranty, however, so I don't know how much it will cost you. It is one of the heating elements that fails. :^( ..Carl

#Need MultiFaceII help Message #214931
From: Carl Hansen Amiga User Forum · Bridgeboard/AMAX October 10, 1995 7:18 PM
Roy… Many thanks for the reply. I again looked at the software I have with the MFII and it is dated 1991 so it is obviously very old. I'll try contacting the company through the e-mail address you provided and if that doesn't work I'll try the snail mail. I…
#48299 Help image on Sphere Message #48300
From: Carl Hansen Amiga Arts Forum · Audiophile September 25, 1995 10:33 AM
Just reread the previous message I sent and found it pretty confusing myself. We currently are having wet rainy weather and when ever tha t that happens the connection (via modem) to compuserve gets flaky and apparently is dropping characters and lines all over the place. I am sorry for…

Kermit & Asha… primarily use IMFX 1.5 as a frontend to my Frago Primera printer. At work I have high end machines with scanners and PhotoShop where I do all the scanning and prep of the images I later bring home to print on the Fargo. As good as IMFX…
From: Carl Hansen Amiga Arts Forum · Audiophile September 22, 1995 9:22 PM
Kermit… I don't have ImageFX 2.x only 1.5. Can 1.5 do it also? I really cannot justify the upgrade cost for this one feature as much as I would like to. ..Carl

John… Thanks for the reply. Phillip came up with a solution that I'll try. Wish me luck. Knew I shouldn't have gotten rid of that DigiPaint. ..Carl

Phillip… Many thanks for the tip. I'll go to DPaint right now and try. Wish me luck – your instructions seemed quite thorough so I shouldn't have problems. ..Carl

I need to find out how to wrap an image (iff, gif or whatever) around a sphere. I seem to remember one of the older paint programs that did this quite easily (was it the digipaint I sold?). I have quite a few paint and imaging software packages but cannot…

Andre… Are you using PhotoShop 3.0 or 2.1 grrrrr 2.51? I attempted to use a PowerMac8100 with 16 megs of ram (someone else's computer so I don't know what all plug-ins it had) and it couldn't even load all of PHotoShop. When PS finished loading About this MAC said 0…
From: Carl Hansen Amiga User Forum · Emulations August 30, 1995 3:32 PM
PhotoShop and OS 7.5 eat up 16megs on a normal PowerMac so you would need even more on an Amiga emulating a MAC. ..Carl

Thanks that's good information to have at hand. ..Carl
What make of CD-R drive does the Plasmon have? Is it a JVC for example? If so you might need a firmware upgrade because the writer may be burning out of spec. ..Carl
#117912 #Mitsumi Problem Message #117988
Kathy, I too am amazed that the whole technology "works" and I love it. I am trying real hard to be as knowledgeable on the subject as I can since it can save innumerable hours of frustration if you avoid doing those things that just simply cannot be done. ..Carl
Kathy… Could I request a copy of the report. I'm very interested in your findings. Thanks…Carl

#117839 #Mitsumi Problem Message #117900
From: Carl Hansen Network Computing Forum · CD-Recordables June 21, 1995 12:54 PM
Kathy… Yes I've had no problems with TDK, Sony, Ricoh, and generic brand cyanine disks but have had problems with Mitsui, Kodak and generic brand pthalocyanine disks. A firmware upgrade for the RCD1000 is supposed to take care of the "laser over-bruning" problem that caused the problem with Pthalocyanine disks.…
D' He only stated it was what "he" recommended. He asked for more info relating to what I had found out from the disk manufacturer who had stated that the Pinnacle (JVC) drive was out of Orange book spec. and said he would get back to me with more info.…
#117579 Mitsumi Problem Message #117707
Forgot to answer about the Mitsumi driver. It is the one that comes with the Mitsumi drive.
#117579 #Mitsumi Problem Message #117706
The side where you see the green is the side with the dye. Green means cyanine dye, goldish means pthalocyanine dye. The Philips drive should have no problem with pthalocyanine disks since Philips produces Kodaks CD writers and Kodak only uses pthalocyanine disks. ..Carl
John… Only guesses. Apparently pthalocyanine disks are much more tempremental during the writing. Variations in laser temperature can make a difference in them. I have pthalocyanine disks that were written successfully and where I can read the directory but when I attempt to open a file or program from the…

#117502 #Mitsumi Problem Message #117518
I have Pinnacle CD-R and two MS-DOS machines with Mitsumi Quad speed CD_ROM drives and they can read my 74 minute CD-Rs. The drivers for the Mitusmi drives are the ones provided by Gateway with the drives. In fact we specifically upgraded from NEC drives (because they couldn't read our…
D'… The kudos for your software are well deserved! The tipping situation here in the good old USA has always bothered me. I prefer the system in parts of Europe (Denmark is what I know best) where the tip is built into the total bill. Here in the states it…
Yeah I've done that at a restaurant in Naples, Fla. (after the worst service I've ever had) and had the waitress chase us out the door cussing us and calling us all the dirty names she could think of. My friends were embarassed – I only got mad and never…
Dana… You are correct of course. We Americans have a tendency to accept poor service and then still tip 15%.. 8^( ..Carl "It is so much easier to live placidly and complacently. Of course, to live placidly and complacently is not to live at all…."
John… The "gold" CD-R disks are the pthalocyanine dye. It is supposed to have an archieval life of 100 years. The "green" CD-R disks are the cyanine dye and said to have an archieval life of only 20 years. They cost the same from my suppliers so I have gone…
Kathy… I missed SIGGCAT this year – just toooo busy (I actually had to fly out of town on an emergency trip). It was the one convention/trade show I really wanted to attend this year. Oh well. Thanks for the follow-up info on the heat problem. I'm going to look…
Ken… Yeah Pinnacle hasn't come through for me when I needed them to but it is partly my fault for not having enough time to focus on the one problem and get it resolved. I just can't believe how complicated life is becoming. ..Carl
Jerry… A week? I've worked here 11 years and I haven't even seen everything in this one museum. :^) It really is a great place, a gem in our nations capitol. ..Carl
Paul… Please see my e-mail reply. Thanks. ..Carl
Kathy… Yeah, when I got to the office where all my reference material is I relearned how to spell it. Ptttt :^) Do you know if there is a way of determining whether or not I hav the vent problem? There are no vent on the top of the case…
John… One thing to ad to your very informative message…I have an RCD1000, one of the first available in the U.S., and have had problems writing to t…cyanine (sic) CD-ROMs – about a 50% failure rate – while haveing no failures with the cyanine dye CD blanks. Finally the problem…

Yup Betty you hit it right on the head. I have my DirWks setup to use LZ as the auto decompresser and it has always worked on .lha files so this threw me for a loop. I'll try again. Thanks for the hint. ..Carl "It is so much easier to…

Dege… THis is getting very interesting. Steve has one with two and you have one with one. I guess when I get ready to order I'll call around and find out if any places have the board with two parallel ports. ..Carl

Gary… Yeah I found the GBKICK.lha file and it did grab an image of my ROM but when I substituted that (ROM image) for the one in my devs drawer the machine crashed on reboot – lucky I could reboot using a floppy and copy my 2.04 rom image back…

Steve… Thanks for the good news, "MY multiface III card has 2 parallel ports". Looks like that is the way I'll go. I have now seen them advertised as low as $88, but that was in a three month old AW. Thanks for the reply. ..Carl
