Propellor blurring
Message #162534
I'm trying to get the blurring down for a propellor on a plane cranking over, idling as seen during a taxi to the runway, and then revving to maximum speed for take-off. I've got the cranking over, and idling looking pretty good, but the transition from idling to maximum looks…
Hi Scott, Did you send it directly to Jonas via mail? You might want to upload it again to me. Jonas is on vacation this week, but I'll take a look at the file. Bob
Hello, Kai. Definitely check your smoothing groups. The suggestion to un-smooth the object then Auto Smooth it again has often worked for me. One result to watch out for when doing boolean functions are long sliver-like faces. These are often the faces that produce strange smoothing or rendering effects. Sometimes…
Hi Tom, I haven't worked with the ACIS stuff form ACAD, but have heard that weird results can occur. If you can get a model into 3DS, work with Surface/Normals/Object Unify, and Surface/Smoothing/Object/Auto Smooth. If you've tried that and it still doesn't look right, please describe what you're model is…
Please specify the application that you would like the ADI driver for. If it's AutoCAD, then ask again in the AutoCAD forum (GO ACAD). Have you tried SVADI?

POSTSCRIPT DRIVER
Message #10755
In the AutoCAD forum (GO ACAD) there are a few utilities for plotting to PostScript at larger than A-size. One that comes to mind is PSUTIL.ARC in Lib 10 or Lib 5. AutoCAD Release 11 c2 (latest version) supports extremely large PostScript output; only one of the many reasons to…
It does and we do. Browse Library 9 (What's New?) or Library 2 (Lisp/ADS) on the keyword Zortech. BRO:ALL KEY:ZORTECH
The UCS icon is not a block. It's hardwired in AutoCAD.
Correct. The spacer files will be unique. AutoCAD Release 11 was designed for network environments, Release 10 was not.
The Ironwood socket will only fix Erratum 21. It will NOT fix Erratum 17. You have the very symptoms of Erratum 17. Have you installed the ERRATA17.EXP patch in ACAD.ADS in Release 11? It should work around the problem, but I recommend replacing all of the CPU chips found by…
You can use the CIS command: BRO:ALL DOS5* or BRO:ALL KEY:DOS5 to find the DOS 5 "white paper". I believe it is in Library 6 (Opsystems/Networks).
Check out the file NEWADI.ZIP in Library 5. It has an Epson LQ color driver.
That is a nasty bug in R11/286. I don't know when it will be fixed, but it had better be soon.
Could be network permissions, disk partitioning software, or that FILES= are not set high enough. Tell us more.
I know of no such plans. We can't support every C compiler on the planet, sorry.
He encountered "Maximum number of user reached", not a lock file. You can safely disable file locking on stand-alone (non-networked) systems with an option in the Configure Operating Parameters menu.
Take a look at PSUTIL.ARC in Library 5.
Release 12 will support legal size on LaserJets (finally).
You probably have the latest, but check out NEWADI.ZIP in Library 5.
If that printer will emulate an Epson, check out the file NEWADI.ZIP in Library 5. It contains an Epson LQ driver.
Unlikely as Hell, Mark. He's got dem Erratum 17 blues.
AutoCAD on the Mac (R10 c5b) uses the LaserWriter as the default plotter. That doesn't work? Are you using R11 c2 on the DOS machine? Are the communiations parameters in order?
Don't ask me. James Weisbin (73457,3462) said that Borland had a 32-bit compiler in message #28372.
The AutoCAD "Show" or demo version retails for US$120 and is available from any AutoCAD dealer.
Hi Ernest, welcome to the forum. Rendering program? AutoShade w/ Autodesk RenderMan or Autodesk 3D Studio. There are others, of course, but I am slightly biased. PCX to DXF? PCX is raster, DXF is vector. Oil and water. I have no recommendations. Clip art in DXF format? Well, we in…

COM port Novel server
Message #28851
It's a long story, but the gist of it is that you have to set up the Novell print spooler to recognise and communicate with that plotter on the servers serial port. You then capture a _parallel_ port on the client using Novell's CAPTURE command and have AutoCAD plot to…

#Interleaf
Message #28850
Release 11 for the Sun 3 and the Sun 386i are currently shipping and should include the Interleaf conversion program (R11 for the Sparc inadvertantly omitted it). I guess the reason the converter is not in the DOS version is because there isn't a DOS Interleaf; is there?

#legal size ps
Message #28849
Release 11 c2 now supports various PostScript plot sizes larger than A-size. There is a utility on this forum call PSUTIL.ARC in Library 5, I believe, that should help with versions prior to R11 c2.

Redraw Lockup after plot
Message #28848
You may have a "B step" 80386 CPU chip with the Erratum 17 problem. Check out the disk in R11 c2 called NEWDX / B1STEP / DXFIX. In the B1STEP directory is an explanation, detection program, and work-around for this problem. Note that the documentation incorrectly recommends that you load…
Release 11 has a drawing recovery option built-in. Have a dealer give those crispy drawings a try.
I didn't know that Borland had a 32-bit protected mode C++ compiler available. Please tell me more. If it does exist, we will need time to come up with a corresponding ADS support library for it. I don't know why Microsoft Quick C doesn't work with Real-mode ADS. I do…

#display list driver bug
Message #28774
Since the pixel-off-by-one "problem" does not exist with most any other ADI driver besides Pixelworks, I am reluctant to call it an AutoCAD bug.

CAD Network Management
Message #28773
Sure, in case the network goes down (when, that is), but if you have the swap files on the local disk, performance should be okay.

Not until we come up with: MondoCAD – 128 bit floating point accuracy for your Cray Supercomputer!

FILE SIZE

>>> See my request to move wish? Yes, but I assumed that one of the other sysops would handle it. If it has not been done then please give me the details again and I will make sure that it is handled. Thanks.
It's a glitch. It's either a documentation bug or a bug in the code, I can't tell which. Thanks for bringing it up.
I'm pretty sure that the E2 is for memory cache, not memory parity checking. A jumper to disable memory parity checking?! Not likely.
EP.EXE is not protected mode, but it will do what you need. It is supplied with Release 11 c2 and can be found on this forum in Library 5, the file NEWADI.ZIP.
Thanks. It's good to see solutions once in a while.
Release 11's Advanced Modeling Extension might do you some good.
If Pharlap 2.6 (NEWDX) doesn't work, you have a serious hardware incompatibilty/configuration problem. We just started shipping AutoCAD with Pharlap 2.6 as the default, so I would concentrate on that problem first.
Run NEWDX.EXE on the AutoCAD executable. It is supplied with R11 c2 and is available on this forum. Also take a look and DOS5.TXT both in Library 6.
Each user should have their own copy of acad.cfg_hostname. One user should not be able to reconfigure another's hardware. Set the environment variable ACADCFG to point to each users home directory like so: setenv ACADCFG ~ in the C-shell script file that you use to invoke AutoCAD or in the…
I don't think so.
The printer is a big ol' industrial strength 12 page/min HP LaserJet IIIsi. We also have a regular LaserJet III. I didn't see any entries with multiple :ms=… statements. The printcaps are from our Sun network in Product Support and they work, so what can I tell you?
Re: Layer merge feature and text access thru ADI. I think that they are both excellent wishlist requests.
There are a few Print-to-Disk utilities floating around on this and other fora. If you toggle ^P at a DOS prompt many applications will echo output to the printer (disk). In DOS AutoCAD you can use ^Q.
Versatec has ADI drivers for many of their plotters. I see one here for the 8500 e-stat plotter called "ADI 907 driver". D and E size, 200 ppi, monochrome. I'll bet they have one for the color jobby. Versatec, Inc. 2710 Walsh Ave. Santa Clara, CA 95051 408-988-2800 voice 408-727-2399…
[Continued] So you see that if you told AutoCAD the correct hard clip limits for an E-size plot, it would fill the sheet and the origin would land at the lower-leftmost corner (see #2 above). If you plot to a file with most HP plotters, the bottom line to remember…
There are two "problems" really. I prefer to call them "misunderstandings". When AutoCAD plots directly to the serial port it interrogates the plotter for its "Hard Clip Limits". This is the physical size of the sheet MINUS the border. The plotter measures each sheet that you load and returns the…
