In terms of videography, what does the term "threading" mean? As in… "..3 Amps required for threading, 2 Amps required for recording…"
#Lightwave on PC and Such
Message #95363
Does anyone know if Lightwave 4.0 (expanded os's) is to sell on the education market?
Unless our sources are the same, I believe I can vouch for that. Lightwave/Newtek is very interested into tapping to the PC market, I think they are capable of giving a good run. (Especially for a third the price with all those modeling features like Metaform!)
IBM has told me that the SMP version of OS/2 Warp (the version made specifically for mulitple processors) has not been released yet. It is due to be released in Q1 of '95. (I'm waiting to make the leap!!!)
Other than the dongle, there is no difference. Unfortunately, when you buy the prog, you sign an agreement that you are not to use this copy for business use, only scholastic purposes. I have heard that they may change this to a freelancers status (it's OK until you hire employees-type-thing),…
I am interested. What kind of animator were you interested in working with?
I would like to know about the IPAS's. How much and which ones? I would also like to know about the VGA converter (what's the res?)
#Powerful? (Lightwave)
Message #95028
Thanks for the info! I am a current user of 3DS, but it's a student copy. As soon as I acquire my business, the price for a full business version of 3DS would be about three times that of LW!!!! Definately a tremendous difference in price.
Thanks!…. Curious, what's a piker?
#ER
Message #1764
What makes your product better than its rivals? I am trying to justify the price of ER compared to other programs such as Morph for Win or Digital Morph. Can you give me specifics?
Yes, I am running Warp as well. And thank you, I would extremely grateful.
ER does run on the mac. In fact, when it first came out, I saw it for about $99. If you want to check it out, you can download a demo of in the Graphics Plus+ area, or direct from them.
I'm interested. Samples are required! Dan Buendia PO BOX 3030A9 Corvallis, OR 97330
Animator Pro? Perhaps, what would be looking for in price? (I'm geared up to get Animator Studio, so it could be a good avenue for me to look into.) This is out of the blue, but…. by chance would you have any experience in any programs that use 32,000 color…
I have that trouble as well. Let me know what happens!
32,000 Animations
Message #135535
Has anyone used the HCMAKE and HCPLAY in its full versions? I am hoping to make the venture into this area, but I am bit skeptical about the quality. Does this program play scripts and at what length can an animation play? If anyone has a direct number to the…
PC to TV Adapters
Message #134693
Ah! Much clearer now! Thanks for the input. And great job on Inside 3DStudio! An excellent book. Bravo!
"…A Truevision AT-Vista will happily put out a legal signal of 1008x486x32bits, and will feed directly into any video equipment that accepts RGB input…" Does this mean that higher resolutions such as this must be in RGB, and not converted to NTSC for the higher res? I've seen a "hyperconverter"…

Text Control Wish
Message #133839
How about finer control of the text? The display is fine, but by a graphic designer's stand point, the text control is atrocious! Is there a possibility that R5 can control the kerning, letter spacing, line spacing, and other aspects of text? I realize that not many people use 3DS…
Thanks! I'm grateful. It's all greek to me. (In regard to some acronym, buzz-words used around here.
So is it possible to display rez higher than this? Say, 800 x 600, or 1024 x 768. I suppose the only problem would by the encoder. If I create an animation that is 800 x 600 and can display and play that on my computer, the only limiting factor…
PC to TV Adapters
Message #133824
I see. So in a sense, they compact or reduce the size of the pixels, to allow more display in the NTSC viewing field, right? Adjusting these specs can be done in 3DS, sp when you render to a PAR, you render to these specs to get optimal viewing quality,…
640 x 480 Bit Blitzer
Message #133823
That's the plan. Visual Circuits has assured me that I have a 30 trial period. I'm still debating whether it's worth the try. Thanks for the concern.
640 x 480 Bit Blitzer
Message #133797
Hmmm…I'll look into this article. "…if you hung around this form long enough, you'd know that nobody I know is even talking about or using one…" That's exactly why I am interested. I find that the majority doesn't necessarily dictate my activity. "Why are you even interested in such a…
PMJI, Why does the PAR output to 752 x 480? (This is not a riddle, it is really a question.) If I can get away with 640 x 480, what benefits are there to going this resolution?
Perhaps I should contact Hanna B. (No, not really,)

"PMJI" Thanks for the vocab!
640 x 480 Bit Blitzer
Message #133773
Really? Have you tried it? (The Blitzer, I mean.) You feel that the quality is not up to PAR? (Excuse the pun.) I've not seen any of the Blitzer's capabilities.

Thanks for the quote. Incidently, what does PMJI mean exactly?
Thanks. I shall relay this to the client.
#640 x 480 Bit Blitzer
Message #133356
Has anyone had any experience with the Bit Blitzer from Visual Circuits? It has the capability to output 24 bit animations, but I want to know if 640 x 480 will cut the mustard. Is it good enough? (I saw the 3DS demo of Pyros P.'s Carribean Resort; 512 x…
Sorry for interrupting, but this was too funny not to! (This was a big saying when I worked in a cannery in Alaska!) I believe it was "Gotcha!", just after the latino guy told his buddies to hold off the feds, and the feds ask for badges….I think you remember…
#Character and Copyright
Message #133354
I have recently been approached by a client about a few intro spots for his station. I wanted to know any stipulations and/or considerations about using characters owned by other companies. This client wishes to use comic book characters in his intro and I want to know if the usage…
Thanks very much! I'll look into this program.
I'm interested! What's your price?
Many thanks!
Traditional Cel Look
Message #133022
Has anyone tried to create a traditional cel animation type look from using a morph program, such as Photomorph? I need to create a cel type look, but I cannot spring for ER at this time. Will the simply morph progs give a clean movement of a drawn line?
#Converting TGAs to IFFs
Message #132967
Does any know how I could convert TGA files to Amiga's IFF? I need to output animations to tape, so I would need a way to do it as a batch. Any suggestions?
I'm interested, especially interested in the Syquest: How about a price range?
I'm curious and interested. Please send me a list.
You have my attention. What are your rates?
I second that! (-what Mr. Coulter said in regard to OS/2 versions.)
I'm interested. Please send a quote.
Thanks, Mike! I'll hit 'em from my angle and is if it helps cave them in a bit.
#OS/2 and Digi Tablets
Message #130685
Is there any drivers or pads that will work in the 3DS environment in absolute mode for OS/2 systems?
Excuse me for interrupting, but is that IPAS actually shipping at this time? Can you point me in that direction, please? (In reference to the metaball IPAS.)
