You mean straight MS-DOS? You can use the LAN Manager for DOS software that comes with Windows for Workgroups 3.11… it'll talk to WinNT servers.
Which file formats can HP-CAD export? Does it export to DXF? If it only exports .IGS (IGES) files, you might be able to use AutoCAD's IGES converter. STP (STEP) is more difficult. AutoCAD R13 should be able to load the .SAT (ACIS) file, too.

What's the timetable for getting SDK examples that we can re-compile and tinker?

My company's product, InterChange for Windows, can read/write what are known as Alias "polyset" files. These aren't the native "wire" files, but given that they're only triangles and quads, they're well-suited for 3D Studio. Call (414) 674-5200 for more info… we of course read/write 3DS files, too.
