Dan, I'm not sure what the Sony endorsment tape is. Check out last years SIGGRAPH tape, It had my MTV basketball animation on it… James
Curt, You might try getting your dealer to make you a copy, they usually end up with one sooner or later. James
I belive you can just rename the .EXE file to .IXP, .SXP, etc, you can add this step to the makefile. It's been awhile since I've delved into IPAS programming so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Yes, that' s true for IPAS routines, but not for anything else I…
I think since the 3DS kernel is actually providing the Pharlap support, you shouldn't have to pay royalities on IPAS applications. Right Gary?
David, Geez, there are some who claim I don't even read the manual. No, seriously the user manual is a permanent addition to the room where the sun don't shine. James
Dan, You need to get a copy of the `93 Siggraph demo reel, it had a whole section titled "seen on TV".
Doug, Yes, the black dot determines where the first frame of the sequence goes. James
Doug, Try moving that sequences' dot with the shift key down then it will move the whole sequence in time. James
I'd recommend Corel Draw for bezier curves, then use the .AI export to bring them into 3DS. James
Geoff, Well I'll let it all go this time, I'm uploading a BBall mesh w/maps, free for your (and anybody elses) use. The original bump map was scanned from a watch box and image processed, thats why it doesn't look quite right. I've since developed a new bump map that…
Greg, >> You just run the executable and it looks out on the net for something to >> do. It will render a frame at a time, not a portion of one. When it >> finishes, it looks out there for another, and another, and…. Sounds like a job description…
Andy, Rmorph is available in GRAPHDEV, the latest TGA2FLI is also there. While your there check out DMORPH, it's much better than RMORPH. James
Regarding Exabyte support: Is the only way to write files to the tape in batch mode? Or can you write each frame to the tape as it is rendered? James

David & Tien, I uploaded a batch processor for gallery effects quite awhile ago, I believe it's called BATCHGE.ZIP, check the libs for Batch and Gallery. If you can't find it I'll see if I can dig it out of the archives… James
Greg, Just another of the millions of practiclly worthless tidbits that clutter my mental hardware .-) James
Greg & Gus, If you preface each line with a "." CIS will not attempt to join lines together. BTW, it will also remove the preceeding "." when the message is saved. James
Ben, Importing CD files into 3DS is easy: 1. Ungroup any grouped objects. 2. Make sure any text is "converted to curves". 3. "Break apart" all "combined" objects. 4. Export to .AI format. 5. In the 2D shaper select file load, select .AI and load file. 6. Select\Vertex\All. 7. Modify\Vertex\Weld…
Rick, Doing pretty good, been working hard the last couple of months in a "real job". I'm back on the streets again, so I'll be hanging around here more often. I guess the world has been keeping you busy lately… James
John, I've been using a CMS 120 for years, it works great, although I did experience quite a few problems using SONY tapes. I highly reccommend 3M tapes. James
John, Try hitting the "H" key in the keyframmer, it'll give you a list of objects to manipulate (scale, rotate, etc)… James
Greg, You obviously haven't tried to purchase another cable, I got quoted $295 for another cable (to control 2 decks). James
Andy, You could render the flics to the file name preview.flc and send it to the images directory. Then when you do a Preview\View Flic it would play the one just rendered at the specified frame rate. If your system can't play it at the requested frame rate, try rendering…
Rick, I seem to recall that there was a POCO utility around that would play ANI scripts. Adding the the foregoing code to that should do the trick. If you need it for distribution, (to non AAP sites) I'm not sure what you need to do. James
Alex, AVI's VIDEDIT program will load FLC files directly, try clicking in the file type selector. It defaults to AVI. James
Chris, The opacity maps are for the Animator Clips texture maps, I belive most Adesk MM dealers carry them, give your dealer a call. James
Ralph, Actually for all the maps I did, I just put the objects right on the scanner, I did use a piece of acrylic to protect the glass for the marble samples. The marble samples also required a drop or two of water to smooth over the little surface scratchs.…
Kevin, I've used the range fields to do that, set the start frame to the last frame and the end frame to the first frame. This only works for flics though. You could use an .IFL list with the frames in reverse sequence if you need 24 bit animations. James
Brian, The texture maps in the SAMPLES\MAPS directory _are_ useable for profitable ventures. I oughta know, I did a large portion of them. Have fun and good luck. James
Martin, I uploaded a set of files a while back that allows you to batch process files through Photostyler/Gallery Effect. Try searching for Batch & Gallery in the Adesk libs. James
Roger, PMS = Pantone Matching System. For PMS 165 try: Red 255 Green 102 Blue 0. The lighting in your scene can affect the actual "rendered" color. James
Bruce, You'll be amazed at what the Silicon Garden can do! You might be able to tweak one of the existing curves to do what you want, and it doesn't require a compliler or anything else, just the book. "Check out" the Alogrithmic Beauty Of Plants, by Prusinkiewicz/Lindenmayer. I say…
Dave, You could use a macro to do that from Ani Pro. Although about the only way to do it is to have all the file names with sequential file numbers so that you can use the + button in the file dialog. example: file00.flc file01.flc file02.flc … James
David, Picture Publisher 3.1 will load photo-CD (or at least it mentions it in the file load dialog), but I haven't tried it myself. James
Steven, It could also be possible that the "cast shadows" attribute for that object is not turned on. James
Gary, The Tseng 4000 chip has limits as to how fast it can do things, so theres not alot of performance boost even in local bus systems. Maybe the 5000 if there ever is one. James
Mark, Lantastic is great for small to medium size networks, it's very reliable and the price is right. LT is a much better value than Netware light. James

SF 3DS Meeting Update
Message #22400
Laurie, I'd like a transcript of that meeting…. James
Gary, I might also mention that I always have at least 2mb disk caching, 90% of the time a wireframe will fit in that and it's already in the cache from rendering. James
Mark, I just saw Lantastic 4.1 AI for $66 a node at Compusa, I get NE-2000 compati-cards for about $150, under $250 a node, not bad…. I'll be having a party near that weekend, zip me your address and I'll make sure you get an invatation to "The 3rd Annual…
Gary, I guess that trip you took a couple of months back doesn't count eh? Sounds like a good place for "Yost Group South"…… James
Aaron, I was under the impression you had to a do a translation at the vertex level to affect an objects local axis, modify/element/move is much easier. James
Mike, Old version here too, email me your address and I'll get it off this week… ps. just got your address from the next message, it'll go out tomorrow. James
Gary, HP does a pretty good job of writing dirvers for their products. Maybe they need an RHPADI developers kit? James
????, You can find Paintshop Pro in the WINADV forum. James
Doug, I bought Playmation at SIGGRAPH, it's pretty neat, and the fact that it's a windows program had me intrigued, but a number of short-comings were apparent almost immeaditly: 1. The installation installs over 300 subdirectories, they even have one font that comsumes no less than 60 subdirectories. 2. No…
Mike, I saw you logged on, so I bumpped up your security level, if you want the whole message base, we'll need to make arangments for a mass transfer. James
Gary, I'll make sure Mike gets the files one way or another! James
Mike, Sounds like you've been hanging around the Softimage booth at Siggraph. A comment though, if you have ray tracing why limit it to stills. I've got a couple ol' clunker 386 machines that have a couple of weeks free. James
Ravi, Sounds like your using an ancient version of wfnboss, either get the latest wfnboss for 2.01 or upgrade to version 3, which has both truetype and type 1 fonts on the CD. James
Gary, The infobase alone will probably drive r3 to 2 CD's. Do it! James
