#INDY RENDERING

Good response! :^) Since when does "highly paid" equate to quality, anyway?
Greg Pyros
Hi Greg
I never said highly paid equated to quality.
However, since I am paid tens of thousands of dolars to give advice about
computer hardware,
to every company from Symantec, to MGM, to Universal Studios, it would be
logical
to assume that Gus would have more of an open mind about the FACTS I am telling
him
based on my expierence with both machines, as well as large amounts of data
compiled
by third parties. He made some incorrect factual statements and I was trying to
point them out,
along with helping him realize that I am qualified to do so.
I was in no way trying to equate money with quality, just that companies pay me
for the
information I was mentioning, so obviously some people value my judgement
Anyway, no big deal, just wanted to clarify any misunderstandings.
By the way, we met at the Schreiber 3dstudio puppeteer IPAS demo in El Segundo.
Good to talk to you again
regards
Cameron

Hi there again! All I was saying was that since 3D Studio will not run on NT
or other dual processor operating systems, it really doesn't matter how fast
the systems run other programs. In this arena, if it don't run 3DS, who cares?
<g>
And, just so that you know, Gus is one of the top programmers around, and he
was serious when he said that he is the person who wrote some of the benchmarks
you quote in your day-to-day activities! He knows more about the bits and
bytes of hardware and software than most of the rest of us combined, and we
have all learned to respect his judgement on these matters (as long as we can
get around his strange sense of humor!)
Greg Pyros
>>In this arena, if it don't run 3DS, who cares? <g>
Succinctly well put, Greg. Since I make my income with 3DS I don't give a flip
how fast that DEC alpha is and that's what I told an over zealous marketing guy
at the DEC booth at Comdex this year. As far as I'm concerned it runs 3DS so
slow it's stopped. <BG>
Strange sense of humor? He doesn't have a strange of humor. You are the one
here with the strange sense of humor! Or was that Martin? maybe me?
naah, I don't think so.

All good mutants have a strange sense of humor, only some are stranger than
others! Comes with that phosphorescent suntan…
Greg Pyros
CC,
Since you are you are such a highly paid big-shot computer expert; one must
wonder why it is that you are unable to spell properly and why do your messages
lack carriage returns at the end of each line?
Alec Jason
Nah… don't worry. Have a beer, come back to the computer and everything all
of the sudden becomes green… <g>
Just think about this. Get a racing Porsche and a stock Peterbilt tractor
trailer. They both rank about the same horse power (around 1000hp). If I were
to take those numbers alone, I could assume they're are identical, right? We
both know who is faster.
Problem number one: It doesn't matter the Porsche can do 90 in first gear (the
Peterbuilt would be in 18th gear by now and the engine would be ready to
explode). You can't drive faster than 55mph!
Problem number two: Pour 30 tons of concrete on the back of the Peterbuilt and
pour 30 tons of concrete in the Porsche's trunk. Now let's see who is still
moving at 55 steady. (Hey John, can I try this in your 928?<g>)
I don't have any problems with your facts. They are the same ones I read all
over the rags of the types of PC Magazine and so forth. They may have some use
for trivial, business like use. We're dealing with specialized software here.
The tools for measurements are quite different, and frankly, I don't think
those rags know anything about this.
Don't take me wrong either. I can't wait to get a hold of a multiple CPU NT
system. Who knows, I may even get it from you (heck, some people believe Elvis
is still alive). I have a couple of DEC systems and am waiting for their Alpha
stuff to ever get ready. So far, all the Open GL system I received suck badly.
The excuse is that NT 3.5 isn't yet perfectly tuned, which brings to yet
another point. The folks here, unlike myself, need something fast today and not
something that will be fast over a year from now. Let's come back next year and
then compare notes about the "current" systems.
And to top it off, NT is just a crying newborn baby! It hasn't even shown its
teeth yet. Daddy VMS is proud but still there is some ground to cover.
I agree with some of your points, gus.
However, those "rags" as you call them , are published by Ziff- Davis,
the most respected testing lab in the country, period. Every one from Intel, to
Sgi,to Dec,
uses their results as a reference, and incorporates some of their testing
methods and
rountines into their own data. NT 3.5, the release version, has very good open
GL,
as I have talked to many Graphics chip makers like 3dlabs, S3, Cirrus Logic,
Weitek, and also board makers like Diamond, Matrox, etc, and they all agree
they are impressed for a first issue of the GL drivers and code.
If you own an Indy, then i do not mean to attack your machine's credibility. It
has alot of nifty things.
But the 4600 processor, not matter how many porsche's, of which I own 2, and
tractors you compare them to, is aging, and slower. This is why Sgi put it in a
$4,900 machine,
and why then have spent millions making a better cpu .
I sell mips 4600 PC cards with 15ns ram, with a 150 mhz 4600 that you can drop
in any PC,
with NT, and they are fast too, but are not as fast as a pentium 100, no way,
no how.
anyway have enjoyed this exchange of ideas, and I look forward to conversing in
the future.
Take care

You can't imagine how much I am enjoying your comments, Gus.
As for the Alphas, according to people over the DEC forum, Alpha cards for the
XL will be launched in two weeks. And with a few surprises. The speed will be
over the previously announced 150MHz. Seems like good rumors to believe 🙂
BTW, and talking about benchmarks <g>, I just have read a comparative of
systems running Photoshop on MacUser. The version was 2.5 for Intel, Unix and
Macintosh (with the PowerPC plug-in). All machines with same 1GB drives, 72MB
RAM (Indy came with 128MB), and 24bit color (they also added a few supercharged
Pmac 8100 and Quadras 950 for comparision purposes). I have read the article
and it is pretty good, basing all testing in real world Photoshop work in three
different sizes of files. Very informative, at least 🙂 The results, using
ordinary stock machines were (I mean, as they come from the company):
1.PowerMac 8100
2.SGI Indy
3.DELL XPS 90
4.Quadra 950
I don't have the times here (there were a LOT of tests to calculate the overall
index, and the XPS only wins in time to open the application). The supercharged
8100 have an huge advantage over all the others (with specialized DPS chips,
Quickdraw accelerator, RAID array…). But the normal PowerMac gets over the
Indy and the Pentium 90 by a good margin.
As you said, I don't care about tomorrow's speed. I care about today. That's
why we got the PowerMac. The same with 3DS. I will get the Alpha when I see a
message posted here announcing 3DS for the Alpha. And if they post a message
announcing it for PowerPC, I will get the fatest PowerPC by the time it gets
released. Right now, the 8100 is useless for 3DS. But, oh boy, Photoshop,
Painter, Pagemaker and Illustrator are a totally different experience compared
to the Pentium <g>
ana /krazy images
I missed you here! I knew you would turn out sooner or later. The Photoshop is
a great example of terrible porting job. It is great on the Mac (any), period.
It is bad on the PC and terrible on the SGI. It is a good example, however, to
prove my point. If photoshop is what you use, there is no option other the
power Mac. It doesn't make any sense to use it on a SGI.
Oh well… <g>
Hi gus,
Well said.
I agree with you 100%. Photoshop is an example of the worst kind of porting.
In order to make Photoshop completly cross platform, they introduced
totaly inefficient code for the PC and Sgi.
You took the works right out of my mouth.
cameron.
Ok, I called my Adesk Multimedia dealer, he is getting me a quote on 'Stump
Puller' (placed third at the Greater Southwest Tractor Pulls and Midget Tossing
Nationals last month), 8 fire breathing V8 with really cool looking blowers on
them, real fire belchers, noisey too. Getting NT 3.5 running on a
multiprocessor Intel/MIPS/Alpha chassis with 256MB RAM and 2 hilagigs (thats
what the trailer is for) may be a problem, but my consultant assures me with
the 68000 coprocessor card running, I may be able to get Lightwave running in
an Amigados emulation mode. I have faith, he was able to get my radiosity
routines running in 16 color mode on the TI-99/4 he sold us last year. It's
still running on it's first rendering 11 months later! How's that for
stability!
Anyway, my ne system should render ALOT faster than ANY puny MIPS or Intel
machine! If not, I'll just run em over.
3DS r4 will run on a Z80 wont it?
LightWave for the PC will supposedly ship in December! And they've got an SGI
version, too. I think the price is $995 for either platform. Amazing pricing.
>>$995 for either platform. Amazing pricing
Yes; the only question I have concerning it is whether it will have network or
batch rendering (someone told me Screamernet supported up to 8 CPUs and cost
$2000; anymore info on either?).
John Stetzer
JWS
The LightWave render engine in the Screamernet was a separate product before;
I've never heard any talk of folding in the network rendering abilities into
the LightWave for the PC, although it's possible. It rests on TCP/IP, which is
present in WinNT and Chicago but not yet commonly found in straight Windows,
although Microsoft does have a TCP/IP add-on, I'm not sure if it's freely
distributable, licensable, or a commercial product. For no other reason, they
may need to offer networking rendering in order to compete against 3DS and
other network-ready rendering programs.
I was told that the p90 will only be 10% slower than the screamernet and
lightwave will network to only the 90 for the IBM version . I wonder how fast
it will run compared to my 68030. if it is slow no go… -Brandon
Yes, I know that the Photoshop port is awful, but I really was talking about
PowerPC vs. Pentium. Without a doubt, an Indy or a PowerMac are superior in ANY
sense to ANY Intel machine to date. At least, any Intel machine that could be
useful out of databases and Windows NT SMP capabilities.
My point is that you have to choose your application, then the computer to run
it on. Once 3DS gets ported to _any_ RISC processor, Intel won't make sense for
me at all. Running graphics in machines oriented to office work is not my idea
of fun 🙂 As for Microsoft… I pass the point of no return a lond time ago <g>
Anyway, we have discuss and agree about this many times! WHy are we talking
again and again about the same things? Oh yeah, the guy with the two porsches
brought it… ops, sorry <g>

Ana, Ana:

Oh, yea? Well, I've got an old AST tower machine filled with concrete that
makes a better boat anchor than both of those put together! So there!
Greg Pyros
Hey, you have an anchor that can run 3DS?
ana /krazy images
Ana: Just thought I'd let you know that recently I had such a WinCIM/CSNAV
folder corruption problem that I had to dump the entire directory for CSERVE
and reinstall from scratch. It apparently "exploded" while downloading from
this forum. CIS kept sending me the same thread over and over again. When I
tried to re index the folders I got a GPF. When I file manager deleted the
folder to start over I lost windows back to the dos prompt. Next, I couldn't
even go online. chkdsk /f didn't help. I just started over and things are
SNAFU again. <G>
Who designed these time bombs called WinCIM and CsNav? -sigh- Mine is up and
running BUT as soon as I perceive any performance degradation, I rebuild the
indexes. Imagine, this results in a rebuilt each three days <g> I am going to
install the Mac versions and see how they work. I have installed WinCIM and it
seems to run very well. However, the real test will be Navigator. I am
connected to eWorld too, and the interface is awesome. 9600bps only, but
awesome anyway.
I am running all this Mac communications software throught the GeoPort, which
is not really a modem, but a neat adapter that connects to the PowerPC to
emulate a 14,400 modem, fax and work as an answering machine. Well, it is the
PowerPC who seems to be doing this. Or maybe a DSP inside the 8100, I really
don't know. What it amazes me is that this toy really works and it goes as fast
as the Intel 144e I got for the PC. And what really shocks me <g> is that Apple
says that they will release their Express Modem software with 28,800bps
capability (right now is 14,400) later this year and for free. It will be
interesting to see new Compuserve nodes running at that speed. I found this
software only modems to be amazing, the thing could be upgraded to any standard
just with software! I personally love the idea 🙂 They are talking about
releasing a ISDN adapter too.
BTW, it seems that you could do the same with any card with DSP in a PC
computer and that MS has released a standard for DSP management for Chicago.
You will have to wait, but at least they are working on it.
ana /krazy images
I don't suppose you've contacted the WINCIM forum. I was planning to go there
and see if we have common problems with others. This is really getting to be a
pain in the BU**. I have to rebuild indexes every day. I get CDATE.idx errors
and have a backup CDATE.idx file on hand for this. I keep telling myself that
it must be my system trusting that people who wrote the software don't have
these problems. Since you've reported similar I now wonder. In the positive
side I have saved lots of money with CIS NAV.
I don't have a MAC here. My wife had an 850 at her last job and she hated it.
She used to have to rush home and jump on the system here to finish her
spreadsheets at lunch so she could meet deadlines. She uses Excel and Word and
always said how much faster our DX2's were in comparison. In her new job they
let her pick her computer and she got a DX2 with 16 megs RAM. I never see her
at lunch anymore. In fact I never hear her complain about her computer either.
Ana:
Sure, just scrape the barnacles off it and it's ready to go!
Greg Pyros
ANA,
you cannot read between the lines.
The test was performaed on a p90 with a 16bit version of Photoshop and a 16 bit
version of
windows.
Bruce wrote the article and I have talked with him extensively in the adobe
forum about it.
Even he admits, along with Publish Mag, Imaging Mag, and Adobe themselves,
that when you run Photoshop 3.0 NT on NT, you get a 50% speed increase
automatically,
and the pentium smokes the 8100.
It was not a fair test to compare the others running on a 32bit ver, with a
32bit OS.
Why don't you try to run it on Photoshop NT and see the difference. I have.
I have the authors testing methods which were sent to me by him and some of
what I can see
is that NT makes a world of difference. Try IT, you will see!!!!!!!!!!!
Also you took my comment about the porsche's out of context.
I was not trying to say it was a big deal I have them, I was trying to make
the point
that too many people make coments about things they do NOT Have, OWN, or RUN.
He was making an analogy to a car which he probably does not own, to a
dual pentium he does not own. Since I have both, I was making the statement
that I am
most likely in a better position to judge. THAT IS ALL.
Hardware is my expert field, so al that I ask is that people are entitled to
their own opinion,
but they should not give advice to people to go out and buy or use a piece of
hardware,
for reasons that are simply untrue and incorrect factually.
The Mac article is a classic example, to any layman, it appears the 8100 and
the others are faster,
but if you know where the huge flaws are in the test, anyone should see that
the pentium was given mediocre hardware, a 16bit os and app.
I am 100% sure that the pentium90 and 100's I build, or even many on the
market,
like the Micron, and the Alr, or Zeos, comboned with NT photoshop and NT 3.5
Daytona,
will burn jsut about anything short of the alpha with native software.
I am not asking you to believe me , TRY IT FOR YOUSELF and see.
the proof and truth is unbiased waiting to be seen .
cameron

I can read between the lines. I can read between your lines (well, I don't have
to, since things are pretty obvius in your messages) BTW, the PowerPC version
is also a lot faster than the 68K + plugin Photoshop 3. I have data from beta
testers about speed in 90MHz Pentiums and things have no changed. In fact, the
PowerPC is getting faster and faster just with 3.0 and the 7.5 upgrade. That's
nice. Performance upgrades using software. Why you don't talk about the System
7 incomplete port to PowerPC and its impact in performance? I just installed
7.5 and I get a speed boost in the PowerPC (not too talk of MANY other things
NOT available in the PC world and that maybe won't be available for a _lot of
months).
The port of Photoshop for the PC is not bad. In fact, it is really good!
Indeed, some Mac people bought Pentiums for running photoshop, since they were
faster than older Quadras. They returned to Mac once the PowerPC came.
And hey!, I am not talking here about the medium Joe working with photoshop for
his Photo album. I am talkinga about big houses and outstanding professionals.
As for Photoshop 3.0, some could argue that the 32bit NT version (which is
really only Win32s based) of Shop will be considerable faster. Absolutely true,
but that has nothing to do with multitasking. As a matter of fact, preemptitive
multitasking has little to do with processing power. Indeed, most serious
graphics artist dedicated to photo retouching and painting use Photoshop as
they sole application, rarely dedicating memory space to other apps in order to
get the best advantage of their systems. I bet that a DOS based Photoshop could
beat the NT version hands down 🙂 Look 3DS.
In any case, some other could argue that next version of PowerPC will be fully
PowerPC optimized while version 2.5 plus PowerPC plug-in has a large chunk of
code relying in the 68K emulation. So another speed boost should be expected
from the 3.0 version.
IMHO, NT is not an OS suitable for graphics. Chicago could be, but you have to
wait for 1995 for that one. NT will only incorporate the OpenGL graphics 3D
libraries, which will make it an optimized enviroment for 3D apps, like
animation, CAD and 3D design. Chicago will come with ColorSync technology on it
(if Microsoft promotion is accurate) and features especially targeted for the
graphic user, as well as OpenGL. If OS/2 could make a similar offer, then WARP
2 (which claims to support win32s appls like PS3.0) is the way to go (I
seriously have my doubts -corporate IBM doesn't have a clue about graphics). If
not, wait for Intel to release a 100MHz Pentium and Microsoft to release
Chicago to get the same level of functionality and integration oriented to
graphics that a 8100+system 7.5 actually have.
My personal recommendation is to go PowerMac. While everyone is talking about
how fast the Pentium 100MHz will be running 32bit applications in a graphic
oriented operating system sometime arround summer of next year, we have been
breaking speed records in a 128MB 8100 since last Spring. Not bad 🙂 However,
the PMacs are useless for us with 3D Studio (not available for PowerMac), so we
have to depend on a Pentium network for rendering.
I can only say one thing. When it comes to 2D (and you don't have the money to
get an SGI with the software), Apple is the way to go. When it comes to 3D, I
only can see 3DS accross my screen. Unfortunately, with a Pentium attached to
it.
Finally, let's say that test are pure nonsense. I only need one test. My day by
day work. -sigh- I am tired about saying the same things again and again.
ana /krazy images
Ana, it is unfortunate you were misinformed so badly about you facts.
1 win32 is NT, it is the programming code for NT and chicago, they will use
one and the same,
they same the same dll calls too.
2 the pentium 100 is shipping, and I have a list of the machines with them.
I have 2 in front of me now.
3 Nt is the graphics OS, that is why all the Sgi developers and Apple is
switching to it.
Apple is runing ppc 601's on it as you speak, and it will be the future os for
Apple and Ibm.
Is is the only OS in the world that runs Alpha, PPC, INTEL, and MIPS, and SUN.
4 there is no argument on the photoshop 3 nt running faster, IT IS.
32 bits gives the 64 bit pentium bus twice the bandwidth to operate in.
The test you site involve a 64 bit cpu data buse trying to cram into a 16bit os
and photoshop.
that is absurd and stupid to think this is fair to compare to an optimized
sys7 with 32bit native code.
Add to that that the code has not even been compiled to take advantage of the
pentium's
superscaler architecture, whereas the ppc has.
when you give PS a 32 bit os like NT and 32 bit app, and compile it, there is a
65 to 70%
speed increase, that is a fact, I have seen it.
PLEASE, I BEG YOU, do not give incorrect info and facts and advice to people
regarding
hardware and software, . The things I have said are true and I want you to
expierence them for yourself. Run PS -nt on a 100 mhz pentium on NT and then
make an evaluation.
It is physicaly impossible for Photoshop to run faster on sys7 with a 50 meg
picture
compared to NT because of the way NT handles memory. It Dynamically changes
memory requirements every second, depending on Photoshops needs, and then uses
the left over
ram as a diskcache, and as photoshop needs more ram, NT accomadates, giving it
more memory,
reducing the diskcache, and shutting down parts of the OS and other aps that
are not immediately
needed. SYS 7 does not do that and you have to set the ram amount for cache,
PS, and other programs before you launch PS, and then it is fixed, until you
need to change it, which you then have to close it down and reconfigure. NT has
the most advanced memory manager in the world,
and like al of the cpu calls, and memory calls, and disk calls, they are
continualy managed and changed for optimal performance. Nt also has a 64 bit
disk subsystem for incredible speed to disk.
Please don't base your opinion or what someone told you on the Pentium and NT.
They are simply the fastest combination for not only photoshop but for many
apps as well.
If you and your firm still have doubts, and are dissappointed about your
pentium systems performance, then you are running a poorly configured and
equipped pentium machine
on DOS AND WINDOWS.
Let me built you a Dual pentium machine with
1 special pentium p54 and p54 cm's with 512k 9ns cache
2 a seagate raid system with 2 8ms fast wide barracuda's and a PCI scsi3
caching card with 16 megs for the disks
3 64 bit accelerated video or a 3dlabs glint 3d accelerator
4 Digiboard ultra high speed serial and bidirectional parallel ports
5 a Plextor quad 4x speed cdrom 660kb\sec
6 scsi floppy drive, dat tape backup
7 64 megs 30ns ram
8 WIN NT 3.5 Daytona
Now that is a PC that will run faster than almost anything, and wil multitask
too,
which incidently , DOES improve speed, both actively and passively, in that if
you do
2 things at once, you do in fact get twice the work done. With os2 smp, you can
launch
2 copies of phtotshop, perform 2 different tasks in each in the background,
and
download something from cserve, all at the same time.
Don't say a ppc is better that a pentium when you don't run the fastest
pentiums nor
the proper OS(nt) , it is not a true statement until you have expierenced both.
Anyway, hope the info helps, and please try things out for yourself as I have
before
making a statement of comparison.
Take care
Cameron
Cyberimage.
Ps I am a beta testor for Intel, Microsoft, and many other cpu and hardware
companies,
and test this stuff every day.
Cameron, Cameron… -sigh- and you are being hired for thousands of hundreds of
thousands of hundred dollars?
What I can read "between the lines" is that you are trying to sell NT and your
machines as the best for the task (what is the task? I don't know). Try another
forum. Sci-fi could be the best for that. Your super Pentiums are simply not
the best one can find arround. Not better than SGI and PowerPC, that's for
sure. CISC is going down, down, down. That's why Intel has teamed with HP to
get PA to the x86 architecture. It will be fun to run a dual chip P6 (oh, you
didn't know that the P6 will need two chips because Intel doesn't know where to
fit more transistors?). Did you ever read about the speed of development of the
PPC chip? And its price?
Regarding the win32 libraries, I am not sure about that, but I thought there
was a distinction between win32 and win32s, the one that is used in the actual
windoze. I hope Gus or any other qualified programmer to jump in and get this
straight.
2. The pentium 100 is shipping now and you have a list of the machines. If that
is true, in what quantities are the 100MHz version shipping. You have problems
to find a 90Mhz, tell me how anybody can find a 100MHz. Maybe you are going to
provide the industry with them? Besides, where is the software? Is Photoshop
3.0 NT shipping? Is 3DSr4 shipping for NT yet? Maybe next monday? <g> No matter
you give me "facts" about how good NT is, it won't work for me. Pure and
simple.
3. NT is the graphics OS of choice and I am Shadam Hussein. Give me a break! NT
is the only OS in the world that runs Alpha, PPC, Intel, MIPS and Sun… but
WHO in the hell with a Sun will buy NT. Who in the hell will buy NT for PPC
having a PowerMac? NT is the worst operating system ever for high end graphics.
Period. If that's not a fact, where is the font technology in NT? where is the
color management? where is the multiple screen support? Tell me only one, out
of OpenGL, one feature that is related to graphics in NT. And look the UI!
THAT'S a great user interface! NT is trash for any serious graphics house or
professional. Thanks, but I will continue with DOS for 3D and PowerMac for the
rest of the stuff (I have been doing this for years in the first case, since
last spring for the second -who is waiting for NT or Chicago here!?). Anyway,
where are all that SGI and Apple developers switching to NT.
Are you serious about this stuff? Where do you live? Are you in a satellite
near Neptune? How many graphics apps are there available for NT? I will put it
easier, how many general apps are available for NT? Of course, NT could be
great for corporate networks (I don't have a clue about corporate networks!),
but if you are trying to sell NT for serious graphics work, you are on the
_wrong_ track. At least, for this year or until MS jump in with Cairo. You wait
for it, not me. You could get "thousands of hundreds of thousands" dollars with
the things you are doing with your machines _today_ not _tomorrow_. Future and
past is nice, give me the present.
Ah, and check out the list of PPC applications out there. I think that you may
think that you are the best for NT stuff, but, a common error among selling
people, you don't have a clue about the competition and what the real market is
doing right now. PPCs our outselling pentiums by far. Just read the WSJ, not PC
Magazine nor MacUser. And high end SGIs are in a completely different league,
Mr.
4. Don't explain to me how Photoshop NT works. Go to the Adobe forum and
explain it to them. And ask the programmers about what version they prefer. Or
ask Adobe why they have most of the cool stuff in the Apple side. Or why HSC
develops for macintosh before than for Intel (not just the PowerTools, but Live
Picture and KPT Bryce). Or why a small PC company like Fauve is getting xRes
for the PowerMac and not for the PC.
System 7 is NOT optimized for PowerMac. Wait to see a complete System ofr PPC
or another OS like PowerOpen running on them to know what speed and reliability
looks like.
I didn't know too much about the System 7. But since last spring, my knowledge
and respect to this OS is getting higher and higher as time goes by.
I will have to see that 65 to 70% speed boost. Sure.
NOW, I am really tired of this discussion. I don't care if you think NT is the
best thing since sliced bread. I don't care if people think that NT is the "OS
for graphics". I don't care if you think that preemptive multitasking is faster
than a single task machines (have you ever read Inside Windows NT and know how
NT _splits_ time among tasks?) -sigh- Whatever you say, will be OK for me.
