Well, John – I hope you won't have to wait too long….but I've not heard of any of those things being right around the corner. I did read the ESCOM was considering an Amiga emulator card for PC's, though. Haven't heard anything about the recently, but it was mentioned last…

John, I wouldn't hold my breath for that if I were you. Somebody just managed to finish a C-64 emulator for PC, and it needs a 486DX2-66 to run at 100% C-64 speed… The C-64 has an 8bit CPU clocked at 1MHz. The (old standard) Amiga has a 32/16bit CPU…
amiga-to-ibm conversion
Message #47157
john: thanks a mint, but I no longer have the amiga to send the files to you, and the video org I gave it to doesn't have modems on its amigas. So what I've done is arrange to give the files to someone who still has an amiga with a…
John, Yes. X-CAD does save and load DXF files. Pete Jones, flying on AutoPilot from Brussels, Belgium

You'd like to move your X-CAD drawings to a PC drawing program? The best format is probably AutoCAD DXF format. I think X-CAD can save DXF files. Have you tried that? Have you asked the company that makes X-CAD about this?

PC bad sectors?
Message #41647
John, it's been so long, I'm not sure. I don't know if the update was ever released. "You do trust me, don't you? Of course you do." — "To Play the King" (BBC)

PC bad sectors?
Message #41609
John, have you tried using something like SpinRite? Excellent tool and it doesn't believe a thing that MS-DOS tells it about the condition of the harddrive. "You do trust me, don't you? Of course you do." — "To Play the King" (BBC)

PC bad sectors?
Message #41520
I think there is..you can use chkdsk to do it..the command is chkdsk/f (for fix) BUT..WARNING WARNING When it fixes the sectors it will try to recover old files that had previously been saved in that area so you need to BE SURE to have a path specified for temp…

PC bad sectors?
Message #41504
John, There is a way of unmarking bad sectors to make them good, but it's only recommended if you can guarantee the sectors are bad. Norton Utilities v7.0 (and I presume v8.x) will as well, have a program called DISKTOOL (I think) which allows you to mark sectors as good…
A1200
Message #37195
I am considering the purchase of an Amiga 1200 with a 40 or 60 Meg HD. Does nayone know if I can use my 1902A monitor to make do. I need to do some DPAINT work and later transfer it to video. Also will I have any use for my…
Your welcome! Nope, not related… First generation techie 🙂 I'll have to remember that name though! Bob Comer — Flying high and fast with my A1200HD'030 on Autopilot! From Cheyenne, Wyoming U.S.A.

CORE UC-100 (PIC-100)
Message #37145
To anybody out there I'm looking for some software created to run on the Amiga for the CORE UC-100 (now called the PIC-100). It is a programmable Infrared remote control that can interface with Mac or IBM and hopefully the Amiga (if anybody out there has created anything). Please let…

Drugs and the Gov't.
Message #33314
Sad, but true. As bloom county said about the drug war, "Government Subsidies make me nervous." But we are kind of getting off my initial idea which was that Clinton's plan to make it easier for me to get a mortgage made as much sense as the government selling drugs…

John: But, on the other hand, if they made drugs legal, and taxed them, the free market would drive the price of drugs to 1/10th of their current price, and a street junkie who currently has a $300/day habit and is basically forced to rob and steal to get that…
Do a PICT loader — yeah right . Actually someone else is working on that so I'll leave that up to him. He is a lot more knowledgable about different picture formats than I. Thanks for the comments on the MacPaint loader. // \X/ John – K7KB (TechnoJunkie at heart)
Thank you *VERY* much. You could restore my faith in Commodore. I had a problem with the graphics when I first bought my A2088 several years ago. I fought with customer support until my 90 day warranty ran out. Sometime later I finally found an Amiga authorized service center which…
Mark: I saw it in Amazing Computing, shortly after AmigaDOS 2.0 came out. I will try to do a diff between the version I am currently using and the original disk and see if I can come up with what it was. If I can figure it out, I'll email…
Clint, There is a patch? Haha, I thought it was a goner but wait , you did say were using it (no, no that must have been years ago). Where can I find that patch (he said sheepishly). Goin' AP6 …..Mark Sterling6
There is always a time of purging outdated software when a new os version or machine comes into your hands. I guess I can do without Scribble!. Po I only have a few macpaint pics but they load just fine. An IMG loader would be nice. Of course you could…
Nah, they treat all their developers that way. 🙂
Scanners & Touch Screens
Message #31537
I am searching for a 300 or 400 DPI desktop scanner or for a touch screen overlay for any of the latest models of Amiga's computers. If anyone here has any ideas for sources of either of these two types of products, a quick message via CServe Mail would be…
Wayne, there is not usually a listing of the "Software Failure" codes in most Amiga user's manuals. If you are into programming, you can find all the codes in the Include:exec/alerts.h file. I purchased the "Amiga Programmers Quick Reference" from Vidia and it has all the codes on the front…
Wayne, Yep, the ARP problem does affect some programs that use ARP library. It depends on which parts they use. For instance, the BlitzDisk disk cache crashes without Arp040Fix. But NameBase, the address program I wrote, works fine even though it uses the ARP file requester.
Alerts.h….wherever you keep your include files.
We bought our 4000's from dealers – not from CBM. We got them faster that way. CBM treats us terribly, probably about like they treat NewTek. I'd guess that's because we don't lick their boots. :^) –Ben …via AutoPilot
CBM is trying to better relations with you so they gave you the custom no-crash A4000 ;^} wmc – via Autopilot!
Denny, Would the arp problem be reflected in programs that depend on the arp library even if no arp commands are in one's command path (or loaded on the machine, for that matter)? I have lots of programs that come with and depend on the arp library. But I've necer…
John, Were are the current failure ("Guru") codes listed? wmc – via Autopilot!
Commodore never announces something before it is released. There are rumors that they will release an A4000/030. John
Netware is available for the Amiga from Oxxi. We're using it here in the office. I don't believe they have a driver available for any 500 Ethernet boards tho.
That is the latest version, I will try and reproduce your problem and report the bug. Never saw this one during testing. Greg Greg Givler – CBMSER Sysop Commodore Product Assurance
Mark: Did you patch Scribble! to run under 2.0? Clint
Well like I said Mark, it could be just me and the type of programs that I have tried to run. As I find the errant ones, then I purge them to keep them from coming back and haunting me, so I might get things settled down eventually. Scribble….boy you…
John, Make sure your power supply fan is blowing air out the back. The first time I turned on my A4000 I though, "Hmmm, this machine is _very_ quiet." Some time later I put my hand on the case and the thing was hot! I would have returned the machine…

Message #31452
Does anyone know if commodor is going to release a 68030 version of the A4000?
I have not noticed many crashes with my 4000. It 100% stock so far except for a 2091 SCSI controller which is only occasionally attached to a tape drive for backup. What programs are crashing? I find that Scribble! will not run but it doesn't crash. What? Now stop that…
Well I'll try to narrow it down some and see if a certain type of program is causing the crashes. If I can find some kind of repeatability, then maybe I can get rid of the problem or correct it. . //
Hmmm…..I'll have to look around for that "Arp040Fix". A lot of the programs I still have on the hard drive still use the arp.library. Yep, I've found a few of the PowerPacker crasher's 8^) European games and demo's I don't worry about too much because I expect them to crash…
"If the 040 is indeed more prone to this behavior and if producing code that won't crash or excite Enforcer on an 040 will guarantee no crashes or enforcer hits with other CPUs, then this may be a good thing in the long run." Well that's true in a way,…
John, I have never had a crash on the 4000 that I couldn't repeat on the 2500/030, or else explain as a programming error of our own. Never. For whatever that is worth. –Ben …via AutoPilot
John, I had to get rid of a few program when I first got my A4K, but since then I never have to turn off Copyback for anything except games. My A4000 is much more stable than my old A2000/030 combo was. Known problem-causers with the A4000: ARP commands (there's…
If the 040 is indeed more prone to this behavior and if producing code that won't crash or excite Enforcer on an 040 will guarantee no crashes or enforcer hits with other CPUs, then this may be a good thing in the long run.
Well I haven't been able to really pinpoint a particular type of software causing the problems. It's just that the chances of any particular program crashing the 4000 seems to have increased considerably. Anything I do find that is causing problems, then I check it with the cache's off to…
What software are you running when you see this problem? Typically input.device giving the errors is the result of someone else stomping on it.
#4000 crash prone?
Message #31427
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed their 4000 is more crash prone than any other Amiga they have owned? I realize that the 040 chip and the copyback cache can cause some problems at times, but even if the copyback is disabled, the 4000 is tempermental with…
Greg, Thank you *very much* for responding. It is version 2.411.
I guess I'll just have to wait. Being able to put the output into a window on the WB is, to me, the only real benefit of a BB. Maybe a better (certainly more cost effective) solution for my own needs is to buy an MSDOS box, minus monitor, and…
I have not seen such a problem, hmm… interesting bug… What is the version of PCWindow that you are running. To get that open a shell and type version sys:pc/pcwindow at the prompt. Greg Greg Givler – CBMSER Sysop Commodore Product Assurance
