Joseph, > In addition to JohnT's comments, I'd like to know what your settings are as per pg 66 of the instalation manual. In particular, I'm interested in it's behaviour when you set driver=vibrant and graphics_card = Vesa Compat. jonas[adesk]
#97513- Video Post Message #97763
Paul, > If you hold an image for a number of frames, your flic will not grow by much. A flic file uses delta compression. This means that for each frame only the *differences* from the previous frame get stored. When you hold an image for a series of frames,…

JE: Yes, I know! They were supposed to be there, really! New Riders Publishing "forgot" to put them on the CD. I spoke to Kevin Coleman this week, and he's checking to see what he can do for the second printing. And thanks for the kudos on the book, in…

Wow, Wow, Wow! Mark, you are a gentleman, a scholar, and some other good stuff! Can't wait to use this routine (I can really use it for a light-intensive project I am working on). I really hope that this is the beginning of a productive IPAS programming "career" for you.…

#97615- FLIC to Targa Message #97750
"Animator pro refuses to allow any targa + drivers" I am not sure I followed all your information. Are you using the TARGAN.ZIP file drivers to run Animator Pro on your NTSC monitor? You should be able to run your animations, then suck them out to the VTR while they…
#SCREEN SAVERS Message #97749
I am looking for some general feedback on what the industry is like for 3 dimensional screen savers. Is there a lot of people doing this and if not why, what are the drawbacks? Thanks… Paul J.
#INSIDE 3DS Message #97748
Greg, BTW, I noticed 2 things about the book: 1. On the rear cover you show 20 maps with .TGA extensions, yet those maps are all .TIF files in the NRPMAPS directory. In fact there are no TGA files on the CD at all. 2. You mention some IPAS routines…
"The image is "broken up", and I have the VESA driver installed" I believe the Viper docs mention that compatibility problems might stem from the machine on which you've installed the viper. Make sure it's in the right slot, etc. As far as 3DS itself, the very recent PCI Viper…

I saw an ad for a competing editor to Brief the other day, they had a milk carton with the Brief logo on it, it said "hasn't been seen since 1987." Borland bought it and sunk it, I guess.
#97669 Animator Pro Text Message #97744
"How do I go about filing a bug report" The form should be filled out in a way that allows the QA department a chance to duplicate your situation. So, for the fonts, you could specify your resolution, the particular font or fonts you have used, and some specific observation…
"literature and a sample demo disk(if available) to me for animator pro and animator" Hi Mary, There is no sample disk for Animator Pro. However we do have some literature on AAPro that you can get from calling 800/879-4233. Animator (and its later incarnation Multimedia Explorer) itself is now a…

I've successfully imported Infini-D DXF (Mac) files into 3DS. I had trouble at first but followed a suggestion from a fellow CompuServe/InterNET animator to edit out a couple lines from the DXF file. I deleted two lines and it opened fine. There is a problem w/ disappearing faces, much like…

#97711 3ds to Autocad Message #97734
Importing a 3DS mesh for orking drawings – ouch! Yes, I've done it. You'll probably want to transform the PFACE meshes to 2D or you will be waiting quite a while for onsaps and getting very different Z distances. One technique is to set up your views and plot to…
#97694 MY Wishlist (early) Message #97733

Daytona Message #97728
John, I was over on the NT forum and found this, thought you might appreciate the humor. My guess is that it was named after the Daytona because of the Race >> Track there, known for _high_ speed NASCAR races… Gives high speed spectacular crashes too… Cheers Black Peter [UK]…

#97705 Info Needed Message #97723
I'm by no means an expert in this area, but here are a couple of tips: o Be aware that the .DXF format does not define what is the "outside" surface. This of course is done in 3DS by assigning a "normal" to one side of a face (normals can…

=== LTUTIL.ZIP === Lighting Utilities IPAS === LIGHT_I.PXP === A couple of months ago I worked on a project with a _lot_ of complicated lighting involved. I really wished I had some additional lighting tools, namely Light Style, Light Arrays, and Deleting Lights by Name. So, having had the IPAS3…

#97713 #AMI BIOS & CACHE? Message #97719
John, I tried to keep my mind clear and didn't even read up on the NEW smartdrive, because we were basically talking about the old one, so I didn't want to confuse myself (which I probably would have). Actually theres still a couple of things I'm not sure about, but…

Greg, I've been meaning to ask, but as you haven't been around as much lately, I've waited. The book in several places mentions some IPAS from you, but doing a File Find *.?xp I have been unable to find them. I've looked in the directories but ? Can you tell…
Martin, Your problem does seem odd, as I have done some fairly contrasty stuff myself with Black and in my case Gold without significant artifacting. There is some but its negligible. Let me know how its resolved. -JE

#97699 Clarification Needed Message #97714
Hey Bill, Why don't you give me a call… I hate long message explanations. But, yes DX4/100 out-performed a Pentium PCI/60 with the same setup for floating point math (ie- 3DS Rendering). But NOT with I/O based things (ie- Windows). That is where the Pentiums really shine! 404-355-1662 I work…
