Of course you can merge just cameras. Do a MERGE or MERGE PROJECT/CAMER/ANIMATION. You can merge anything you want. I'm not sure about overhead, but using more lights without scrims definitely renders faster. Having to calculate shadows (scrims) takes longer. Besides, when have you lit a normal scene with just…

James, Depth of field is possible, but it is not an easy or fast procedure. The technique I believe most people are talking about is rendering the various portions of the scene (fore, mid & back ground) as seperate images with alpha on, and then recompose the series of images…

To clarify, there are zero restrictions on how an artist can use the .3ds files and texture maps on the WCTK in their work. Of course, reselling those files doesn't fall into that category. – G

Hello John, Now I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. One cannot import just a camera, can they? What about the subsequent animation? 2) The only problem with using the EXCLUDE as a scrim is that you end up using two or more lights instead of…

I'd like to use the f/stops for exposure. Depth of field is a whole nother matter, but something that's definitely crucial. There's been talk about a "focus" IPAS, but I haven't been able to find it. James

Ron, Both VistaPro and GIFDXF come on the CD ROM that ships with the book "Inside 3D Studio" by some of the folks here on the forum, published by New Riders. These will do what you want. John
Ron: VistaPro 3.1 will output VistaPro DEM's as DXF files. I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for (John understands the terminology better than I do). It's available as both a floppy upgrade to 3.0 or as a CD-ROM (with MakePath, VistaMorph and 3500 scapes) upgrade from…

Adding "Undo" to a program that didn't have it to start with is often problematic. It's really something that has to be designed from the start.

Gary, I figured that BROWSE was taking advantage of easy calls to internal 3D Studio code. The results are very good (image quality in the postage stamp), but decimation probably wouldn't have been too bad either. Or possibly utilizing a quick & dirty routine for images over a certain size.…

Great idea about being able to update without reindexing. Are you saying that you can't cancel with the ESC key while indexing? Re the image-rescaling operation during indexing… The reason why it rescales so slow is that it's NOT doing a simple decimation. It's running through the 3DS renderer's background…

The reason Borland and Microsoft compilers can't be used to write IPAS routines is because they're not 32-bit compilers, and 3DS is a 32-bit program. Any programs that run under 3DS, including ADI drivers and IPAS plug-ins, must also be 32-bit programs or they and the system will crash horribly.…
