1) 8 – The explanations of how features DO work are very complete and clear. But I would like to see more examples of how the features MIGHT be used, or what they were INTENDED for. E.g., in the ref. manual the 3D Editor Create/Face/Extrude feature is explained with a…

#Modify/Object/Move hangs
Message #83995
Gary, thanks for your reply. David Mennenoh, in message #83337, says that this is a bug in 3ds3–that Modify/Object/Move (with clone & Multiple) comes to grief if faces are hidden via Hide/Face. Is this a "known" problem? And is there a list of known bugs available? Seems to me such…
>> When doing a Modify/Object/Move on a selection set of objects make sure that you don't have any hidden faces in any of the objects. There is a bug in 3DS3 that will cause the program to bomb or do other weird stuff when you click on the multiple button.
#Modify/Object/Move hangs
Message #82890
I am getting a system hang (with buit-in Vibrant driver) or a looping error message ("Get allocator error..Attempted to put past end of allocated area…") with either the VGA or VESA driver options. It occurs when I attempt to do a Modify/Object/Move in the 3D Editor with 4 objects selected…
Local Origin Wanted
Message #81033
I am creating an architectural model from an old blueprint. Features on the drawing are sort of randomly dimensioned relative to eachother–i.e., there is no single handy "origin." Working in the 3D Editor (the basic walls are all up) what I would like be able to do is define a…

Liquid Speed-ier
Message #75588
I just received an update to Liquid Speed in response to problems I posted here a few weeks ago. The corrupted User Plane icon problem has been fixed and I now get the advertised speed increase (2x in Editor, 1.5x in Keyframer)–only "problem" is that I can't test it against…

Liquid Speed–Viscosity
Message #70784
I spoke today to "Paul" at Vibrant Graphics who phoned to confirm that there have been other reports of only "30-40%" speed improvements with Liquid Speed (rather than the advertised "double-speed"). He said that the Beta Version did not have this problem (!), and so felt pretty optimistic that it…
You might want to take a look at some of the meshes on the R3 CD-ROM by Tom and Helene Knight. They have managed to create jointed characters whose joints are so carefully crafted as to be hardly visible. Thus when a knee bends (pivots), the seam between the thigh…

If you have Animator Pro, there is a POCO program called STARFIEL.POC that does this. It will create a flic, any length, up to 2000 stars comin' atcha.

Graphite Pro rendering
Message #68595
I have just (2 wks ago) installed a Graphite Pro VL 2mb. I am NOT running QEMM (nor EMM386, and thus am NOT excluding a000-c7ff in config.sys, although I AM excluding it in [386Enh] in system.ini), I am also running DOS 5.0 as you are. As others have suggested, remove…
".JPG" is an image file extension, in the manner of GIF, TIF, BMP, etc. You can view if from within 3DS R3 like any other image. E.g., in 3D Editor, press Render/View/Image. You can also use various shareware file viewers, like ColorView and Graphic Workshop.

Brian, I'm reeeally not trying to quibble about this! I simply DO NOT get the double speed increase that you and others get. And if you saw David Mennenoh's message #67990, he didn't either (he and I get similar results). I had hoped that you could determine why certain systems…

>> When running at full throttle. LS *really* should show the 50% increase in the Editor as advertised > Liquid Speed doubles the performance of 3D Studio's 3D Editor, and accelerates the Keyframer by up to 33%
Are we talkin' the same thing here? Or do we have a semantic Timing Problem? You say you "get a 40-50% speed increase" (I assume we're still in the 3D Editor, not Keyframer). By that do you mean that you ALSO get only a 40-50% increase? Because that's all _I_…
Yes, I'm using the inline Vibrant drivers. For Main-Display I use the "Hercules Graphite AGX, 1024×768 256 colors," corresponding to my Graphite HG720–right?
I've just been "thumbing through" the R3 CD-ROM and have a question about a mesh, \geometry\vehicles\wheel.3ds, a mag wheel. I rendered the camera view and noticed a pattern of triangles around the outer periphery of one wheel cut-out (the one at about 1 o'clock). Displaying "edges only" shows squarish faces…

Yes, the 3D Editor. I do understand that the Keyframer increase is less.
re $240 at NCA for Graphite Pro VL (HG720)… NCA is one of the companies I phoned. If I remember correctly, they quoted sumpin like $450 (as did a couple other South Bay companies)–most didn't even have a price on it. I do believe they undercharged you. You might want…

Thank you so much for your confirmation of my Graphite problem, John! It's always some relief to learn I'm not the ONLY one who's having the problem (i.e., that I'm not as iggerant as I feel at these times). I see you've experienced a problem with 800x600x24. I haven't tried…
R3/Win/Graphite a NoGo
Message #66698
I am trying to run R3 under Windows with a newly installed Hercules Graphite VL Pro, Model HG720 (I'm OK running under DOS). I can get R3 to configure (vibcfg) and run only if I choose "VGA" (rather than "VIBRANT" for Main-Display) and "VESA" (for the others). But when I…

$2-300 for the Viper?! Eeeek! Where do you shop?! Around here I've seen it for $400+ and felt fortunate to get it from JDR Microdevices for (just) $339. Yes, I know my interlaced 3D is a bit over-the-hill, but the Viper and the motherboard upgrade (from 386/33 to 486/66–wheeee!) were…
