Yes we are interested. Would very much like to talk to you and look foreward to doing so. PRC-EMI Multimedia Group (406) 442-5588 Chris Martin and Jim Dushin
Thanks for the tip. Can you compare it with Elastic Reality which seems to be getting the most votes? Key points awarded for ease of setup, i.e. meshes if used, and high quality output. Thanks.
Thanks very much for responding. I was really leaning toward ER, but didn't want to be pulled that way merely because of the ol' "well is so much more $ than the others, it must be better!" notion. Thanks again Chris
morphing package
Message #1758
I am looking for testimonials or recommendations regarding morphing packages that will produce broadcast quality product. I will be using rotoscoped images for target and destination. I have identified: HSC Digital Morph, Photo Morph 2, Morph Studio, and Elastic Reality. Any comments on these or others would be greatly appreciated.…
#morhping package
Message #145931
I am looking for testimonials regarding good, broadcast quality morphing packages. I will be using rotoscoped images for the moprhing, not 3D geometry. The pacakges that I can find are: HSC Digital Morph, PhotoMorph2, Morph Studio, and the big one, Elastic Reality. Any comments on these or others would be…
Depending on how close you plan on getting to the ball itself, you can skip the mapping idea and use Hedra.PXP to generate a ball. I don't remember the settings, but it didn't take me long to come up with it. I think you can still find hedra.pxp in the…

Release 4 due in my office next week – looking forward to it very much. Thanks
Looping question
Message #140811
Actually I got something to work last night, but it seems like I'm really forcing it and missing something important here. frame box ——– —– 0 top (just out of view) 9 middle (of view) 18 bottom (out of view) I put a repeat on position and rotation keys. Then…
Looping question
Message #140740
This has got to be one of the most rudimentary questions of all time, but there is a basic animation concept that I just don't get; looping. Whenever I try to employ a looping object and or copies of that object I ran into trouble before I even begin. How…
Thanks for your lengthy response John. I really hate to keep pounding on this horse, but…here are the specific problems I am having: 1. The bars I generate and drop to tape show wiggles at the magenta/red interface. I notice these both on my monitor and I saw them today…
Thanks for you reply John, but I don't get it. Sorry. What are the color values that are typically used in the generation of these bars? How can I use them as a color reference for my work? Is there additional information, somewhere, on really safe colors and palettes? I…
#STMPE bars
Message #124368
I would like to create my own color or stmpe bars for use on the tapes that I send out to post-production. I have been using the project file that I retrieved from the board here, but I'm concerned about some possible problems: 1. I don't really understand how the…
Yes I am net rendering, but only on my own machine. Our machines aren't hooked together. I keep forgetting to adjust the shadow-bias-absolute value so I can't respond on that, but in several models we continually see the problem in all test runs.
It's DEMO tape time of year for us right now and we are quickly trying to come up with quick fixes for these problems. After the tape goes to the post-pub house next week we can take a closer look at it. Thanks.
I messed around with map size but no help. Now I will give your suggestion a try. Thanks.
Yes, both problems (the field rendering – shadow missing in one field somewhere, and the flickering mapped shadows) occur on both machines. We tried increasing maps size and tightening hotspot and falloff and still have the mapped shadow flicker problem.
Nope. This is just straight hard-drive to videotape. And the shadows flash for the entire length of the animations. Chris,
#flashing shadow
Message #122479
Quick question…. We used to run all of our braodcast stuff field rendered, but ran into a problem nearly everytime where we would get half a shadow somewhere in the animation. So…we went back to frame rendering (longer animations now, of course) but now we get these weird flashing shadows.…
I love these responses. Seriously. This way I get a chuckle and I no that that's the end of it. I will quit searching the depths of the manuals. Thanks.
Good idea and it's worth a try. Thanks.
#background zoom
Message #112564
Pardon me if I have missed this in any of the literature, but is there a way to zoom in on the background image (and pan around) specifically during the creation of a mask or matte object? Frequently I need to build mattes for photo-composities and my current process of…
Ah, now we're back to my original point…client education regarding the time required to develop a presentable project is extremely important if in fact you have a desire to be compensated reasonably for your efforts. Good luck. A gentleman responed to my orignal message with a little phrase which I…
What are you planning on doing with 3DS? Maybe I can offer some (probably very little) assistance. Chris
Doug, PRC-EMI which is the group I am with consists of 800 environmental folks in 27 offices across the US and a few international. I am a SW Hydrologist that has moved into the video relm. PRC does alot of superfund clean up work and under certain circumstances provides demonstration…
How much?
Message #105738
Thanks for your reply. I'm not looking for actual cost estimates, rather I just want to validate my impression that these guys want $15,000 worth of animation for $5,000. Who wouldn't if you could get it, right. Our main client, who is actually my employer (don't ask how this works)…
How much?
Message #105515
I begin by admitting that is has been a really bad week and this may be the direct cause of my "poor me" attitude, but I am interested in how much any of you folks would be charging for one of my typical jobs. I am getting nothing but grief…

Laundry-mat
Message #102151
Dont' bet I haven't thought about it. In fact I have tried lots of things, from coffee cans with plastic wrap over the end to baby food jars on sticks. No decent stuff yet. In fact nothing even on tape.
Thanks. I have Washington Pro Video and AVI looking into it, but no responses from them yet. I will pass on the Tech and Sigma ideas and see what shakes out. Chris
I'll toy around with some ideas. Thanks Ghris Gartin!
I'm really not looking for a switcher, rather a router. I'm not losing sync. I just want to be able to route the two different PCs to the two different VTRs (and monitors if possible) without pulling and swapping cables in the back all of the time! Chris
I'm thinking that I better change my name to include a -G- if I want to be anybody in this field rendered extravaganza!
#switcher help
Message #97894
I am looking for some assistance in finding a switcher/router for my system. I recently bought a 4×4 matrix switcher to find that it wasn't at all what I need. We have: 2 PCs, 2 GVM-1311Q NTSC monitors, 1 UVW-1800, 1 EVO-9650, 1 SVO-160 (PCs both have Diaquest 422+ and…
Helps in that we know what causes it, yes. Helps in avoiding it, no…impossible until a fix. Insofar as the Gs, you are correct, I was not. Would I be so incorrect to just use G in the future, since both are many things that begin with G?

Video Post
Message #97710
Paul, I was just cruising around and found your message. I'm certain that Jonas will provide you with a much better answer than mine, but here goes anyway: Are you generating single frames that will be dropped to tape or is this going to be a flic? I have read…

Settings go off?
Message #97707
Wow! Just run into your message to Greg regarding my problem. I will make note of it myself and see what happens. Thanks Chris
Whew! Finally. I thought maybe I was just going bonkers. Chris
Gary, Here are the exact steps that I took tonight to duplicate the problem. I saw no need to provide you with a file since I was able to reproduce the exact same result several times. 1. Start 3D Studio as you normally would 2. In the editor, select the…
I didn't elaborate because it doesn't take much to set off the problem on our systems. There is nothing magic in the way I have constructed anything or the order in which I have done them. I am on my way back to work for a while this evening and…
I got about an hour to play around with this today and here is what I found: Make a cube Assign Tornado – default settings okay set up a light, camera, and materials go to keyframer, configure rendering options, render single frame — to this point all is well –…
My instances of this problem are rather random, but between my partner and me we should be able to come up with something soon. I have never tried to actually create the problem, but we will keep you and Jonas updated. Thanks for your attention to this. Chris
I am relieved to see that I am not the only one this is happening to. It has been happening for a very long time, to me, and in a wide variety of projects, but here is what I did last week when it occurred most recently: I had a…
Good idea, except I am quite inept in AniPro. However, that I can play with here at home on this dog machine, so I will certainly have more time (and cheaper time) to experiment. I'd love to be able to roto-scope something in. That would really do it. Thanks for…
Laundry-mat
Message #96053
I know that lots of you out there love to offer suggestions on animating techniques, so….. I need to animate a soil rotary dryer, from the end, showing what is essentially like going to the laundry-mat, late one evening with a bucket of dirt (and a six pack), putting the…
#Settings go off?
Message #96052
What causes the settings of IPAS routines to go off all by themselves? For instance, I may have several IPAS functions on and setup, run some tests in the keyframer, go back to the editor and make some changes or additions, go back to the keyframer to find that all…
Couldn't wait. Killed me to just pause and stare at the sync generator. Attempted your setup idea (which I liked very much) and all went well on the first attempt. What a great feeling to drop a day's worth of stuff to the betacam and not receive an ALARM on…
That's a very inexpensive and great set of suggestions. Will give it a try. Thanks, Chris
It seems that John E. has a slightly different suggestion. Have you looked at that arrangement?
Thanks for the suggestion. We will be moving across the hall next week and I plan on waiting until then hook everything together. If I get stuck I might bug you again. Chris
I actually downloaded an animated RDS from the graphdev forum a while back. Can't find the name right noe, but will look for it if you are interested. Also, POPOUT allows the creation of you own RDS images and PCXAUTO produces RDSs from PCX files -FYI. Chris

Anybody had a CD go bad? A portion of my R3 World Creation Tool Kit (the wipes subdirectory) went goofy today. Can play or transfer anything from that subdirectory. ????
