Question: Is there some inherent reason why MS/VC++ is the only viable development platform? For example, what about Smalltalk, or Borland's object pascal, Delphi? These object oriented languages are a whole lot easier to deal with. BP PS: About Delphi, I'm not sure, but, of Smalltalk, nearly positive an NT…
MATERIAL-Network Based
Message #188381
The most powerful paradigm for material design I have yet to see is the Shader Builder found in Wavefront. While I'm sure none at the YG would want to be accused of pure copying, the network-based building of materials has many advantages: – a firm theoretical foundation (network theory, object-oriented…
Instead of having people cover ground over and over again, is it possible to have proven solutions to technical problems posted in a TechNotes library entry. Seems that would go a long way to reduce channel traffic. BP

Jonas, Right now, even if one where to retrieve all the messages available under this heading, one would not have a very good idea about where various topics, i.e., modeling, rendering, materials, etc., have been and the direction they're taking. Consequently, I have a suggestion that would help those who…
I've been following your little thread, as I am an old-time folky of the '60s myself. Now I all of a sudden catch wind of this little diatribe about "egocentric" artists putting their work up in the AD Showcase Forum. Is that how it seems to you, "egocentric"? How about…
Peter, The cleanest text application to objects by creating the actual text via 2d shaper & lofter and the booleaning it onto the surface of the obect. This requires making a dup of the object and then subtracting it from the text, inverting the text faces and deleting the unwanted…

Not a trick, really. It's in the documentation. However, reading the docs is tough slogging, I know. 🙂 I just re-phrased it a little more clearly, I hope. Glad it you got it. RE: projects and experience Lots of project, not much paying experience and no job. 🙁 But that's…
Great! Let me know how it goes. BP
You're absolutly right, it does depend on what you're trying to accomplish. The point I was trying make ( and you've got it ) is Bias is used to control the exact frame a particular key occurs at, not Continuity. I worked at one shop where the default Continuity was…
Look into WinImages/FX from Blackbelt Software (Systems?). They're here on Compuserve. The program is very inexpensive (~$100) and has so really great capabilities. BP
Corey, I don't know what you mean by "the box" you are tesselating. I've created tons of "beveled" text characters using the outline function in the 2D editor and then lofting the outlines. If you'll explain further, I'm sure I can help you out. Which way did you come in?…
I see this all the time, screwing with continuity to prevent motion overshoot. The real man's way of handling this problem and related problems such as reverse motion from a key is to use the BIAS. Don't mess with continuity unless you really mean it! To get a motion to…
Sorry, I missed the info on getting the reel. Please advise. BP
Where are you located, Chris? I'm in the LA are and looking for work. Call me at 818-994-9843 if the logistics are right and arrange to get you some samples. Regards, BP
If you're concerned about disk space, I'd suggest you render to .jpg for background stuff. You'll keep your 24-bit color and save lots of space. Experiment with the compression ratio to balance quality vs. disk space requirements. Regards, BP
The problems with Micropolis drives, especially, the 4G, are legend. Micropolis knows they have problems, but, of course, can't admit it. It stems from their difficulty in securing sources of reliable media and heads. They're small fry compared to many of the other drive manufactuers and wind up having to…
It would be cool if we had a Library Section Entry maintained for our list of book titles, eh? BP
There's a book that I'm still working my way through, "Sight, Sound, Motion: Applied Media Aethetics", by Herbert Zettl. It's pretty heavy, but, presents visual story telling concepts in a unique and , I think, profound way. Definely worth a browse at you local well-stocked bookstore. Those who need a…
RE: No ack from demo tape submissions. Many more of my demo reels have disappeared down black holes after being sent out than have fostered return inquiries. You can call and leave messages on voice mail till your blue in the face and these lord-high mucky-muck stooges will never get…

John, you 1000% right. Perhaps I was a little flip. I appologize. I have no doubt your product is well worth $500 for someone who may need several converters. Maybe all us 3DS hacks should have it! 🙂 However, as my specific interest is just to get in and get…
Syndesis has what the call a "rudimentary" converter on there commercial product. $500. No Thanks. BP
