#151164- 3DS with ATI Mach 64 PCI Message #151511
Hi Peter, It appears to have been a dumb mistake on my part. Release 4 has the ATI Graphics Turbo Pro option on its list of drivers. Don't know why it didn't appear when I first loaded the software. Once I found it, it worked perfectly. Philip
Thanks Eric, Looks like I got the problem sorted out. Cheers, Philip
Hi Kevin, Thanks indeed for your detailed reply. Looks like I found the source of the problem. It's working fine now. Cheers, Philip
Hi Nik, Thanks for the quick reply. I talked to Vibrant. Apparently the evaluation copy I was sent for the article I'm writing doesn't have an updated driver for the ATI mach 64. I'm going to try downloading it from the Vibrant BBS. Cheers, Phil Shaddock
All: Has anybody had any luck running 3DS with the ATI Graphics Turbo Pro with a Mach 64 chip? The Vibrant driver does not seem to support it, and I didn't find a fix in the library. Thanks in advance. Philip Shaddock

A reader of 3D Modeling Lab (Waite Group Press) asked for a simple tutorial in using Imagine. It turns out that the original first chapter for the book was exactly that. Good thing I didn't throw it out when the publisher nixed it. I've uploaded the chapter as a Word…
Thanks Thomas, Philip
Thanks David, I'll try them. Philip
Thanks Jonas, I'll find that file. Philip
Hi, I'm doing an article for a major multimedia magazine that surveys the 3D modeling, rendering and animation programs. I want to do a sidebar on the IPAS extensions for 3DS. Is there a list somewhere of the available or soon-to-be-released IPAS extensions? Thanks in advance. Philip Shaddock

>> Oh, thanks. I guess that helps. BTW, those tutorials on the bee and the train make everything so much simpler. I can't believe how easy that stuff can be.

Thanks for clarifying that in your usual succinct manner Mike . Philip
From: Philip Shaddock Amiga Vendor Forum · Impulse May 12, 1994 10:14 AM
Hi Sam, I think Mike Halvorson should jump in here to clarify your question about distribution of work created by Imagine. However, it's been general policy with Waite Group Press books that the bundled program is a learning tool and work shouldn't go out of the classroom. It seems to…

Sam, What happened is you pasted the copy exactly over the top of the original. When you moved the copy, the "image" of the original did not get refreshed. So the axis is there. All you have to do is refresh the screen. Are you new to Imagine and/or 3D?…

Laurie, 3D Modeling Lab is a step-by-step tutorial in 3D modeling using Imagine 2.0 as the "laboratory." It teaches you the concepts of 3D creation as well as basic techniques and tips. Imagine 2.0 is bundled with the book so you can follow along and learn by doing, in the…

Chris, Thanks very much. It must of "flown" out of the warehouse. BTW I'm still using Nanotechnology Playhouse as a demo. A friend of mine used the demo to land a $250,000 bank demo. She owes me big time . Philip

Well, it's finally rolling off the press. 3D Modeling Lab from Waite Group Press is due out soon on book shelves. The book is bundled with Imagine 2.0. Using Imagine as the laboratory it teaches the general concepts of 3D modeling, rather than Imagine specifics. It can be used a…

From: Philip Shaddock Amiga Vendor Forum · Impulse January 26, 1994 2:13 AM
Bob, 3D Modeling Lab is due to ship April 22…and it will probably take a couple of weeks to wind it way out to the stores. Philip
Thanks indeed. GRASP has its own forum on CIS (GO GRASP). Some people have run into problems running the demo that comes with the book until they free up about 550K worth of memory. Memory limitations are removed with the latest version of GRASP. Have fun with the book.
The book Multimedia Creations from the Waite Group press comes with a demo version of GRASP (all functions, but limited to 16 colors) and a MIDI TSR from FM software with an interface to GRASP. It includes LEYA's Song from Roland (used with their permission) and specifically support the SCC1.…
#59129- MIDI and FLC's in DOS Message #59375
From: Philip Shaddock Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk Animator September 29, 1993 1:40 AM
David, There is a solution that works really well. I use Paul Mace GRASP in conjunction with a MIDI TSR called PLAYD from FM Software. GRASP plays back FLC's in DOS as fast as any FLC players, and in some cases faster. You can control the FLC's starting and end…

Hi Bruce, 3D Studio is a production tool for going to video. Imagine is more an artist's tool, and it's image is superior. I use Imagine for 100% of my work now. More lighting choices, better textures, ray tracing, etc. I think Imagine is a better program. Anybody interested in…

Bruce, Yes you do need a math coprocessor in order to run Imagine on the PC. A 486 has it's math coprocessor built into the CPU. A 486 will run 5 – 10 times faster than a 386 running at the same clock speed (e.g. 33 Mhz) because of the…

Hey Peter, I was reading along the thread regarding the PD brain. Hilarious. I want to use it in the intro to a book I'm writing (with Mike Miller) on 3D using Imagine. What's Compuserve's policy on this? Would they give me permission? I would of course seek permission of…

Hi David, GRASP has built in support for digitized sound…although in its present incarnation it can only play animation and digitized sound at the same time for short periods. That will change soon. GRASP's player does digitized sound. I use MIDI for music. The MIDI TSR is a MIDI song…

Hi Pete, I use three different types of sounds. I use the PC speaker for special effects, I use a GRASP digitized (VOC or WAV) player for voice and effects and a MIDI player for CMF or MIDI sounds. In the example I talked about I used the PC speaker…
