I solved my problem with the Viper and Toolbook 🙂 The answer was as simple as turning off the Viper's Turbo Palatte setting. I'm now happily running Nautilus/Toolbook at 1024x768x256 using the Viper's blistering speed 🙂 Thanx Peter Szymonik p.s. Next question – where do I find my Subscriber Info…

Surprise, the Viper drivers work fine. 🙂 I found the answer to my problem – its as simple as turning off the Viper's Turbo Palette. I'm now happily running Nautilus at 1024x768x256 using the Viper's incredible Windows speed. Peter

Hi Karin, I have the very latest Viper drivers and board ROM. I don't want to drop resolution for a number of reasons, the main one being that I'm running PCTOOLS for Windows and resetting my elaborate desktop takes forever after a resolution change. Also note that while Toolbook may…

I'm having a fatal problem with Nautilus on my new Zeos 486DX2-66 system. The system uses a Viper VLB video card, and no matter what I do, I get GPFs when running Nautilus – and the error messages points to Toolbook as the cause. I run at 1024{x768 and I…

Note that Phillips has developed a CD-ROM technology that allows to be used by Mac *and* DOS/Windows computers. Several titles have already been released in this format, and I expect by the end of year, most CD-ROMs will be packaged in this dual format (just like 3.5 and 5.25 floppies.)

Strange… I run Global Explorer with Word 2.0c and ProComm Win in the background sometimes and have never had any problems. Maybe reinstalling the program will help? Peter

The ZEOS SCSI is a full SCSI-2 implementation, in fact, the chip completely mimics an Adaptec card. Several people in the ZEOS forum have had NO problems attaching CD-ROM drives to the ZEOS SCSI, all they needed was an appropriate SCSI driver (like CorelSCSI!) Peter

The answers are yes, it does work, but you may need CorelSCSI 1.1 to make it work. Post your query in the ZEOS (PCVENE) forum for more info. Also, what is a ZEOS PC "clone"? Clone of what? PC manufacturers stopped "cloning" IBM machines a long long time ago. Its…

Ok, this one is for all you techies out there … I have a Texel 3024 drive in a 486 tower. The Texel is connected to the computer via a Future Domain TMC-850 M adaptor card. There is a ribbon cable running from the drive to the adaptor card that…

I've put MV Fusion 16s in a Gateway 486SX-25 mini and a Gateway 486DX-66 tower with no trouble. You may also want to check out the MediaVision section in the MULTIVENDOR forum. Peter

As far as I know, its socketed. Any company that still solders in upgradable ROM chips is asking for trouble. Even QMS sockets all its ROMs in its printers. The additional cost to socket is trivial compared to soldering this chips in. Peter Szymonik

I'll chime in with a third recommendation for the Texel from HDI/Insight. Ordered mine and it arrived as promised via FedEx in two days (I ordered late in the day.) The adaptor didn't work when I got and a quick call to their tech support got me a new one…

I for one will scream bloody murder if they make customers send the drives back. This is just plain stupid considering that most PC people can easily pop a chip in and out. I don't at all relish the idea of taking apart my system and shipping a drive out,…

Shop around for better RAM prices. The tariff hasn't been enacted yet, and it probably won't be. In addition, it only affects Korean chip makers, which only account for 10-20% of US RAM shipments. All this price hike stuff is pure sales b.s. Peter Szymonik

The Texel 3024 I bought came with the SCSI-2 adaptor from Future Domain. What that means about Kodak compatibility, I don't know. What I do know is that HDI told me (and the Texel flyer verifies) that all thats needed is the appropriate driver, which Texel will soon have available…
