I provided AV support for Interplay's Annual Sales Meeting a couple of weeks ago. Asked them about some things: Sony's Playstation blows away the other consoles (3DO & Sega Saturn, mainly… no mention of Jaguar). It includes features not found in the others, such as Radiosity ™ which is a…

I have a question about networking – We have set up two Pentiums and a Compaq on a simple peer-to-peer Novell compliant 10base-T network (coax). Getting the board and software for the Amiga, would it connect-up seamlessly ie: the PC drives show up on my workbench, and the ability to…

My A2000 is crashing in a random manner and has given various error codes. Upon reboot, it almost always gives the same code — 8000 0003 0020A712. Does anyone know what this means? I think it is heat related because it does not do this until its been on for…

Try scanning at different resolutions. We have done things like separating the R, G, and B data and recombining from different scans done at different resolutions. Also try rotating your image 90 degrees. Use wierd resololutions, like 203 dpi, etc. (Can't your client provide you with the original images?) -Steve

Hilary, What no one seems to be answering for you is that Imagemaster automatically resizes an image to almost fill the screen. This is so you can "See the whole picture". So, even if your image was postage stamp size or billboard size you are going to see the whole…

The FAST Video Machine sounds impressive! Perhaps it is better than the Toaster because it is more like "second generation". The Toaster is probably limited by its original design. If they were to start again from ground zero, it would probably be artifact free in the DVEs. Just like everything…

It could be that NewTek wants to do a better job than the old JPEG standby that most of the non-linear systems employ. This, and the fact that Windows is new territory for NewTek could be what is delaying them. Concerning motion effects, find out if the Video Machine does…

No, you are correct, there is no socket, just pins. But, one of the pins is missing and it corresponds to a plugged hole on the ribbon cable connector. The other ribbon cable connectors are the same way.. .and the drives are missing the pin, too. This virtually assures that…

We've found a great reason for 3/4" tape machines; so great, we bought a new VO-9800 with the SMPTE time code card. Our clients shoot on Betacam, and in order to save the tape from too many passes, we window-burn them to 3/4 for use on an offline Avid system.…

It's that darn Mac resource fork, Titleman expects it to be there. Besides, from the Amiga, you can't embed the alpha channel, and using Titleman's chroma key (key on color) for the most part is worthless. So, Photoshop becomes essential. -Steve

I tried doing that with a 32-bit PICT a while ago with no success. Now that I understand Photoshop & alphas in general a lot better, I'll give it another shot. I'll let you know of successes/failures. -Steve

Nope, Photoshop 2.5 handles 24-bit IFFs perfectly. Do it all the time. But, you're right TIFF & TARGA are more popular. I create graphic stills that go to our edit bay via a Mac and a hardware (black box) and software set called Titleman by Digital F/X (defunct). It accepts…

ADPro's Profesional Conversion Pac has an ADPro Loader & Saver. But, I have found most programs on the Mac don't like it except for Photoshop where you have to bring it in using Load As. But, since Photoshop has an Amiga IFF loader, why bother with the ProConversion Pac. Besides,…
