#ASPI & 16MB limit
Message #87030
Given the ISA bus-master / DMA limit of 16MBs, does CorelSCSI guarantee that all data buffers are below 16MBs? If not, what is the remedy to data corruption on systems with more than 16MBs of memory? My scenario is an AHA1542, ASPI4DOS.SYS, & CorelSCSI 1.20, on a system with 32…
Corel SCSI 1.2 should work okay with the 1742A and Toshiba 3401. rp93
How do you know the 1740 never sees the CD-ROM? It never prints anything other than drive C: and D:. What CD-ROM drive are you using? Is synchronous transfers turned off? If you're using a Toshiba 3401, I have heard you need drivers from Adaptec which support it. Corel SCSI…
I missed the first part of this thread. What is a Sony CDU-541-CL? I have a CDU-541-01 (no CL). I have been able to get it to work with single-session photo CDs only. I do not believe there is any way to get it to work with multi-session. rp93
As soon as I get to Costco and buy 7th Guest, then I can reply. Until then, I can't say. rp93
I would suspect the 14 drive CD-ROM towers would require two SCSI adapters since each adapter can only talk to 7 drives. There is no reason why multiple CD-ROMs would be a problem. My company recently bundled 4 CD-ROMs into a case and are in the process of getting them…
The Toshiba XM3301 can read XA discs like Kodak PhotoCD, but only in single session. It cannot read multisession discs because it lacks a way for device drivers to get a hold of the last session. The drive is not upgradeable to become an XM3401. I don't know what the…
Sorry, don't know much about that one. I would suggest running a bare bones system: himem.sys and the cd-rom drivers, then run Windows and see it works. If so, slowly add utils back into your config.sys and autoexec.bat. rp93
Most drives which are double speed do have the ability to drop the transfer rate back down to the standard 150KBs. However, I decided against implementing that feature into my device driver. I have only had one request for it, so I am putting it on my wish list which…
Texel Interface Specs?
Message #48769
Does anyone have Texel's phone number? Or better yet, can someone send me the SCSI interface specs for the newest Texel CD-ROM which can handle multisession PhotoCD? rp93
>Does anyone remember what the original question was? You mean there was a point to this thread? 🙂 I figured it was just so I could keep appending replies and make this one of the longest running threads around. 🙂 rp93

CD-ROM upgrade?
Message #48678
A CD-ROM caching program should make your drive speed up sequential file accesses dramatically. Random accesses will speed up too, but only by a little. This is from what I read from the back of a CD Speedway box. I haven't tried it or Norton's, so no real evaluations from…

CD-ROM driver for PS/2's
Message #48677
Actually, if you really want to get ProCD 2.03 to work with ISHA from Procom Technology, contact me via e-mail. I can probably get data to work. No guarantees on the audio portion though. rp93

He probably means when the head is reading from the inside track (sector zero), that the disc spins at 530 rpms and 200 rpms when the head is at the outer most track. In any case. All CD-ROM drives read data off the disc while the bits pass under the…

Adaptec 1542B/any CDROM?
Message #48675
For a package which does all that you want, look into CorelSCSI. They have a rather large list of supported CD-ROM drives (chose your CD-ROM drive from their list), and also drivers for OS/2 2.0, and NetWare 3.11 (CD-ROM is on the server and all workstations can access it). rp93
Sure, the double speed drives transfer data at twice the speed. Some drives can handle Kodak PhotoCD multisession; some cannot. rp93
If your Adaptec has an ASPI driver, then you could use CorelSCSI. rp93
Only SCSI drives will work on Macs and PCs both. Macs have drivers for Sony CDU-561-25 (inquiry: CD-ROM 8002). The place you buy the drive from should have Mac drivers for it if it's not a "real Apple CD-ROM". On the PC side, you can get an Adaptec or other…
The drive has the capability of returning the location of the last Primary Volume Descriptor (PVD). On a single-session CD-ROM drive, it expects the PVD at 2:10 for all data discs. A multi-session CD-ROM drive has the ability to look for PVDs at locations other than 2:10. You can consider…
#Best SCSI-2 adapters
Message #46594
Recommendations on SCSI adapters depends on the bus type and amount of memory you have. First, if you have more than 16MBs of memory, you should not be using an ISA motherboard. ISA adapters: Adaptec 1542B or C — compatibility is number one here Procom Technology ISA SCSI Xelerator –…
VBRUN001.DLL sounds like a Visual Basic DLL. I don't know whether that is re-distributable w/o run-time. If it is, I may have a copy lying around. rp93
#Tosh 3401 & Adap 1542

Just FYI, the 1542C is not the first SCSI adapter to place its configuration in ROM. Procom Technology's ISA SCSI Xelerator is. It is also faster than the Adaptec. Oh, and I am biased. I work for Procom Tech. rp93
