John, You just have to start AmiTCP and then start AMosaic. From the project munu of Amosaic select Open Local and pick a file (.html) you have picked up from their web site or one of the HTML's that came with version 1.2 and read on. Not in the iNTERiNSTALL…
Oliver, Keywords there being; MUCH HIGHER THROUGHPUT RATE And he is serious ;^). I bet this is European humor that is somewhat over the head of someone that has never been across that big river between New York and England. Never mind. I'll just hit the local "pub" (tavern ((bar))for…
Oliver, There should be a registration file you can print out and send to Mr. Kruse, Look under iNTERiNSTALL:PPP/registration. If you can't find it I'll E-mail it to you. Well worth the $30. I had a disk in my mailbox within 2 weeks but I don't know exactly how he…
Oliver, Register the ppp.device, if you are using it. Reports say it speeds the works up 40-50%. Going from one site to another, I would say much more than that. The author has contributed alot of good Shareware to the Amiga so he is pretty easy to support. Jim
Betty, Not real interested in HMI for the Amiga. AP works great for what I use CI$ for. If I need pictures I visit the web. Always glad to help if we decide to bury them with e-mail. I'll give them lotsa :-)'s and B^)'s Jim
This is wierd. Normally their responses seem much more "canned". We'll keep twisting their arm. Maybe someone should mention to them ATG has already sold 8000 1200's since the rerelease. They might be glad to fill the niche once the lemmings hop on the MSN Bandwagon. Jim
Gracia,
John, http://www.omnipresence.com/amosaic/2.0/ Amiga Mosaic Home http://webcrawler.com/ WebCrawler http://www.iam.com/iam Intangible Assets Manufacturing http://www.omnipresence.com/Amiga/MainPage.html The Amiga Home Page. http://www.prairienet.org/community/clubs/cucug/amiga.html The Amiga Web Directory http://www.cs.uit.no/~kjelli/thor THOR HomePage http://ftp.wustl.edu/~aminet/ Aminet at ftp.wustl.edu You can read Amosaic Docs (.HTML) offline by starting AmiTCP first. Have your AmiTCP directory "show all files" and double click on…
John, When I first started this Internet thing I couldn't understand what all of these little subprograms did. Fortunately A friend of mine at work had a better understanding of what was going on. The bottom line is AmiTCP and PPP regulate the transfer of data between computers. If you…
Micheal, Might I ask, do you get a "complete" window in the corner of the screen? Also, did you click on the OK when it unghosts at the AmiTCP/IP guilt Screen? We'll look at the obvious before we look at reinventing the wheel. I bet you are closer than you…
Gerald, > SJA did reply to a thread a month or so ago saying he submitted a proposal to CI$ to write a WinCim type navigator for the Amiga using their HMI protocal. Seems the jury was still out at that time. Whether or not he has gotten a reply…
Gracia, After some investigating I found the loadsocket file in my iNTERiNSTALL directory which uses the loadlib command the socket.library author refers to in his docs. After some more investigating I found the socket.library in my HD3:AmiTCP/libs but not in my HD3:iNTERiNSTALL/AmiTCP-4.0/Libs directory. Could that be our point of confusion?…
Lutti, From your connect Thor tcp/ip window click on group list, double click on the group you are interested in when given the list. This will add the group to your Hotlist, from there the get news button will collect news from all groups on your hotlist. I personally only…
Gracia, Congrats, your just exactly 12 times faster than my local node. Seems the North pole is always last with the new technology. 38,400 is great. I think it has to do with the speed the packets are pumped into your machine. The next step up from your modem speed…
Open the "Dock" and use the pack purge Msgs option. Troels (not)
Gracia, Don't forget the Assign. The readme file that comes with the socket file really sheds (about a sun and a half worth) of light on the subject. I think the author is waaayyy out there (that would be a compliment 🙂 ) The more sockets the merrier Jim
Stephen,
John, > This whole thing kinda works a piece at a time. Someone else here called it piece meal. Once you get the AmiTCP & PPP piece in place (which are the big pieces), you just keep adding and updating pieces. A double click on the AMosaic Icon will start…
Stephen,
Stephen, > assign INET: AmiTCP: to your S:User-Startup somewhere after the AmiTCP assign.
James, Had the same problem. All the replies I got told me the three finger salute was the only answer. Seems some HD's don't spin up fast enough for the OS to recognise them. Maybe we should put it on ATG's "to do" list. Jim

Stephen, The third file you needed to get while at the Thor WWW site was a socket library. When installing this library you also need to add an assign. Something about INET. Same rumor the listserver suggested. P.S. While back at the website picking up the socket.library, there is a…
Steven, May I suggest Thor. Works alot like AP but in an internet kinda way. Written by a bunch of dedicated Amigans in Norway. The devolopers are to a point where it is about as full featured as the good PC stuff. Stop by http://www.cs.uit.no/~kjelli/thor and ftp the 3 files…
John, > You only get a short amount of time to click on the OK button at the AMItcp guilt screen before this message comes up. So as soon as the OK button unghosts (is that a word?) click on it and see if your HD starts clicking away. If…
Vic, Understood! One of the Amigauser Sysops uploaded a textfile named "ppphlp.lha" (no quotes of course) which will answer all of these questions for you and more. Jim
Jim,
Asha, I got's a friend with a GVP and whatever setup. This whole thing has got me ready to pick up the phone :-/. I'll check in with you tommorrow. Jim
Asha,
AmiTCP-4.0 Problems
Message #215383
IINST.LHA If you don't have it, get it. Let this handy little installer do the dirty work for you. I think you have to respond to eight questions. After countless hours of headbanging I tried it and was hooked up in ten minutes. I spent the next five minutes making…
Asha, > I would even let the next generations of Amigas use PC components (Risc chips, video boards, sound cards and so on), as long as the OS was as logical and stable as Amigados. Messy dos seems to be a hack on a hack on a hack. All the…
Mr. Z
Mr Z,
Asha, Flash!! More news from the net. Talk of Clone and Mac emulator cards for the Be. Why not buy an already supported machine? I still kind of like the thought of Mr. Bill (Gates) making somewhere less than a billion next year. Let the Be run it's course ;^)…
Asha, The $1600 price tag they are touting is without HD and RAM. In their web page they say a 16 megs of RAM is a good place to start, which would bring the cost of the computer (without monitor) up to about $2500. Sounds to me like they are…
George, I sat at the same place as you are at for a couple of weeks until I Dl'd Thor TCP from their Web page and read the docs. Thor Tcp is not a replacement for AmiTCP. What it does is, lets you forget all the packets crap in the…
Yes. What do you want to spend? Any special requirements? Jim
Micheal, There is a classified section in the Amigauser Forum. Jim
Jon, I've got a friend that just jumped the Amiga ship and was talking about selling some of his old software. I saw a SAS C++ package on the shelf he might get rid of for a reasonable price. I'll give him a call tomorrow before work and let you…
Don, We're talking a 1200. Am I SOL? -Jim-
#No Printosity
Message #196054
Help!!!! I can't get my printer to print. The printer initializes then a few seconds later I get a requester asking me to check printer or cabling. This problem all began after I swapped some stuff from one 1200 to another (accelerator, HD and SCSI converter). Since then I have…

For Sale: A1200 w/40 meg HD, 6 megs RAM (2 chip, 4 fast). Includes docs, disks, mouse etc. $400. -Jim-
Steve, Got the dialscript to work in fairly short order, got all logged on and got a few more errors. $pppipremote: Bad value, add net default 149.174.212.2: network is unreachable, and add net default 0.0.0.0: network is unreachable. I'm hoping installing Amosaic will take me over the last hump. Work…
Steve, Duh! Surfing through the file manager tonight I found a directory called Prefs:Env-Archive (WB2.x lag). Deleted the Env: and Envarc: Directories I created. Put the Sana2 directory in Prefs:envarc and all hell broke loose. Hd's spun, text flashed, and the modem picked up!!!! Of course that leads me to…
Steve, ppp.device is in devs:networks of my sys: partition of my HD and I also made a clone to put in my AmiTCP dir. The way I read the directions I thought, since I'm running a machine with an '020 processor or faster I should put the 020 eval version…
Steve, After writing the last ignorant question I read the PPP.guide file more closely and made the necessary changes to Startnet, Stopnet, and db/interfaces. Some progress was made now in the AmiTCP log I am getting a message saying OpenDevice: Device or unit failed to open. All hints are appreciated.…
Don, My LNB (Local Neighborhood Bartender) did have some sympathy for me and my Amiga. -Jim-
Willie, It took him a week or so to reply to me. -Jim-
Willie, I suppose this is a stupid reply but. Has your outgoing document been properly converted to a fax? As in, starting up GPFax and then outputting your document to the printer where it is intercepted by GPFax and converted to a fax. Also you should be able to view…
pMfji, I believe the Caos idea was picked up by some guy named Gates?
Marion, Or incompatibility! Could I transfer my, now worthless, subscribtion of AW to your newsletter? -Jim-
