Mike, try it without the IPAS- in the shaper, draw the glass with all the cracks where you want them. Extrude the plane as individual pieces with adjacent borders on all the cracks. Select the surface faces and map them with the desired material. Could probably use automatic reflection mapping…
#3ds project files Message #196863
Have been meaning to mention this for a long time- in the next release, please separate the Project Load and Project Save buttons ! It' so easy to enter 3ds with a blank screen and unintentionally hit Project Save instead of Project Load. Bingo, you wiped out the file. The…
Hi Nick- The problem was memory conflicts with other devices. Solved, thanks to Dave- NAAUG. The conflicts only surfaces when large programs are installed. I booted with only necessary devices-CD drive and mouse, and Animator installed OK. Rudy

From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage January 31, 1995 10:03 PM
Hi Jeffrey, I still have ANI Pro 1.0- never upgraded to 1.3…. Does this mean ANI Pro 1.0 won't run with EMM 386 ? Rudy
#ANI Pro won't run Message #150118
Since changing from QEMM to EMM386, when trying to run ANI Pro the following message appears: "Phar Lap Err35: The 386 chip is currently executing in virtual 8086 mode under the control of another program. You must turn off this other program in order to use 386|DOS-Extender to run in…

#3DS won't create flic Message #146004
From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Hware/OpSys/video January 10, 1995 10:03 PM
When I try to render a flic a message appears: "Can't create flic file". TGA files render OK. To make it more interesting the problem is intermittent- occasionally it will render a flic file. Am running 3ds4 on a 90 Mhz Pentium with 32 MB . Have approx 30 MB…
Hi Nancy ! The new books are great, as always ! However, when I tried to install the diskette for the R4 supplement it unzipped all my archived files and filled up my 3ds4 directory with hundreds of files-. That'l teach me not to keep archived files there. Rudy
#142450 dxf in to 3ds Message #143621
Ben, you probably have invalid shapes- they must be closed to go into the lofter- try selecting all the vertices and welding them. Then use Shapes\Assign\Check and see if theyr'e ok. If not continue to weld or even delte vertices until shepe is valid-

#Diamond Viper drivers Message #139639
Since installing Diamond Viper SE card have been unable to display Animator Pro. Have loaded VESA driver that worked on my previous (Genoa) card but no joy. Diamond has not responded to my request (on their BBS). Can't reach them on phone or fax either. They obviously don't provide any…
#Wish list Message #138139
From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Wishlist November 27, 1994 9:08 PM
The timing for these wishes is probably wrong, but here goes- Ever since R.1 I've wished : 1) that angle adjustments in the KF could be in .25 degree increments, as in the editor. 2) that objects could be unlinked during the animation. Keep up the good work and best…
#Blacker Backgrounds Message #138137
From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Hware/OpSys/video November 27, 1994 9:02 PM
How can I get really black backgrounds ? Am outputting to PAR and to Beta Cam SP, using super black (R.4) . Still, my backgrounds are not really black when compared to other (competing) animators' "hi end" tapes. This was pointed out to me by a video producer/ex-client…….. Would appreciate…
On one of my computers, when modeling in the editor, objects suddenly become corrupted- vertices suddenly "fly" off to different planes in or around the object. These vertices are connected to the object with edges. This only happens on oneof my computers, a generic 486-33 with 20 MB ram. I…

I didn't catch the first part of your photogrammetry thread with Rick Miller- would you mind repeating the process to me ? Sounds very useful for us accident types.
#Flickering screen Message #66878
From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio November 16, 1993 8:59 PM
Hi gang, it's me again- problems seem to come in bunches. Since using Rel.3 (which I is great) I experienced episodes of screen flickering when un hiding objects by name in the keyframer. THe screen would flicker in muted pastel colors for several seconds- quite pretty, actually. I thought I…

From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio November 16, 1993 8:49 PM
Brian, thanks for your message- actually the model I was rendering was a simple little flying logo with no maps, just a few materials and the Hilite IPAS which turned out to have been theculprit. The rendering always crashes atexactly the same frame, (234) with the same strange error message…
rendering crashes Message #66874
From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio November 16, 1993 8:43 PM
Tom, I thought my problem was alsodue to having all drives compressed and I uncompressed one for the swap file. But no, the culprit appears to be the Hilite IPAS ! Each time I renered with theIPAS thecomputer crashed with that strange message- when I omitted the IPAS it did…
rendering crashes Message #66873
From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio November 16, 1993 8:39 PM
Martin, I tried several fixes, have now pinned down the problem- the cause of the crash during rendering, always on the same frame (!) appears to be the Hilite IPAS. After 6 series of renderings, that was the common factor. And it was a simple little flying logo with no…

3DS3 problem Message #66622
From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio November 15, 1993 6:46 PM
Mayday ! While recording my 300 frame animation from disk via VP the process was interrupted at about frame 230 with the following message: "No RAM for bitmap". The Memory used showed an astounding 31040 plus 50884 swap ! All this just to record previously rendered bitmaps- obviously something is…

From: Rudy Mantel Autodesk Software Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio November 14, 1993 7:28 PM
Greg, yes it was a memory problem- after much tweaking we managed to get network running. However, the network (Novell Netware Lite) won't recognize most drives on other machine-(2 machines)- from either one to the other. Strange- it could be a Novell problem but they have not yet thought of…
