#216680 GVP SCSI driver Message #217185
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · Using 2.0 – 3.0 October 30, 1995 4:48 AM
I noticed a very small speed increase using Guru ROM. After installing it I got 3 crashes in a row then everything settled out. I find Guru ROM correctly scans the SCSI bus now. Before, it was hit or miss as to whether all my external devices would be recognized…
#196167 Statement of Intent Message #196280
Thanks very much for the post. Let's hope this is the beginning of good things.
#195203 Scanner question Message #195366
Good. I'm looking foward to getting my scanner!
#195185 Scanner question Message #195365
-> Do you see one for a UMAX scanner, I have the UC300 and would like to use it with the Amiga. Nope. I don't have that scanner loader.
#194937 #Scanner question Message #195138
I ordered the MiGraph scanner but Safe Harbor tells me that it works with the parallel port. Plus, I don't see a loader for the MiGraph in ADPro. I have one set of additional loaders that gave me Targa, etc. but no MiGraph.
#194762 #Scanner question Message #194881
-> The Migraph scanner connects to a SCSI port. My GVP 030 Combo board will have a stroke if I add another external device . Maybe I'll swap out the tape drive. Thanks. Do you have the OCR software? If so, how well does it work?
#Scanner question Message #194707
How does the MiGraph scanner connect to the AMiga? Serial port? Thanks.

Steve, Out of curiosity, why do you dislike the Mac (system 7.5?) OS.
#193123 GVP Message #193344
-> I think they knew that they were on their way out for about the last year, and felt that what they did was the most honorable way to leave. That is my impression too. They gave me some help this past year so I'm glad they were around.
#192831 #Macrosoft Message #193076
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · SoapBox April 17, 1995 10:01 PM
One of the local New York TV stations reported that Windows 95 needed 8mb RAM to run and was "corrected" by MicroSoft saying it would run on 4mb. While the news program reported what MS told them on their next broadcast they also pointed out that W95 instructions said you…
#192765 #GVP Message #193075
-> And towards the end their tech support was just ludicrous. And thereby hangs the tale. I think the meager tech support for those 6 to 8 months before they shut their doors is what soured a lot of people. It seems to me they could have closed up shop…
#192408 #GVP Message #192747
-> I didn't get the DSS8+ software upgrade to v3, because by that time I'd acquired an Ad516. I don't know anything about Ad516 but the DSS8+ v3 was a great upgrade! I read Erik's story and he has my full sympathy. I also have some sympathy for GVP. Remember,…
#192308 #GVP Message #192396
Did you get the DSS8+ upgrade? The software improved quite a bit! I assume the "RAM shaft" you're talking about is the fact that GVP accelerators only use GVP's custom RAM simms. GVP said they did this because quality of "standard" simms varied so greatly.

-> …we will probably have to be a bit more flexible about such spellings – won't we? I suppose you are right, Betty. I'm sure I'll get used to it. I'm more concerned about DPaint's non-retargetability than its spelling.
#192215 #GVP Message #192268
-> their Amiga support was always iffy, and minimal at the end, even before they had real money problems. I found that if you'd keep after them you WOULD get answers. Granted, that's not a glowing review but I'd hardly say they abandoned the Amiga market. As for them using…
#192085 #GVP Message #192195
-> Actually, developing for other platforms is not something to criticise. People need to eat, and companoes need expanded markets to grow. I agree. -> But abandoning a platform, the one that weaned you, is a horse of a different color … How did GVP "abandon" the Amiga? By making…

I'd be interested if anything will be done with PhonePak as well!
#46381 Deluxe Paint 5 Message #46385
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga Arts Forum · Audiophile April 10, 1995 2:03 PM
I double checked DPaint4 to make sure of the spelling of "color" too. To me, that means there was a conscious effort to "correct" the spelling in DPaint5. Anywho, this isn't as important as the other point I was making which was that I wish DPaint5 would re-target to high…
#46378 #Deluxe Paint 5 Message #46384
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga Arts Forum · Audiophile April 10, 1995 2:03 PM
-> You shouldn't HATE that. That HATE sounds a little fascist. But I hope you are not. You just seem a little bit uninformed. And that is easy to fix. Thanks, but I don't need fixing. I don't hate a person or group. I hate the way DPaint5 spells color.…
#46375 #Deluxe Paint 5 Message #46383
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga Arts Forum · Audiophile April 10, 1995 7:06 AM
-> I'm just the opposite, as a Canadian I get pretty annoyed seeing COLOR in all print form nowadays. When making a program for the US market they should conform to that spelling. I wouldn't think of writing a program for an English consumer and use the Americanized spelling of…

DPaint5 DOES look real nice but 24-bit is a pain. I converted a damaged GIF to 24-bit via ADPro and loaded it into DPaint5 for repair. I cut a brush in 24-bit but to line it up properly for pasting was hell! Like you, I'm not using an AGA Amiga.…
#187665 AmigaWorld ends 🙁 Message #187809
I can understand about having a full schedule. I at least hope to see a column with your byline surface in some Amiga publication. The upside of publishing an Amiga newsletter is that if the Amiga technology takes off in a big way after it's sold you could be rich…
#187010 AmigaWorld ends 🙁 Message #187346
The news about Amiga World really broke my heart. You mentioned something about an Amiga news letter you were thinking about publishing if Amazing Computing fell through. Why not publish anyway? I know I would subscribe.
#186912 #Diavolo help Message #187306
-> trying to mix 150 and 250 Meg cartridges in the same tape drive can cause problems using the lower density tapes. I heard about that a little too late. It seems strange that a tape drive is made to use smaller tapes but screws up if you take advantage…
#186717 #Newton & the Amiga Message #186901
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · Communications February 28, 1995 2:35 PM
I'm in the same boat you are in. I have a Newton MessagePad 100 and nothing to connect it to. Some purchased software comes on memory cards but most, over half, comes on floppies (Mac/IBM formats.) You can buy a floppy that connects to the Newton but I don't know…

#186470 #Diavolo help Message #186661
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · Personal Apps February 26, 1995 8:31 AM
I was having problems with my backups using AmiBack and I would get a criptic "SCSI Phase" error. I thought the problem might be with the program so I downloaded Diavolo to test it out. Diavolo stopped working in the middle of a backup with no error message. Perhaps something…
I don't suppose you have an AmiBack 2.0a to i patch? Thanks.
#Helmbrowser Upload Message #102137
I look foward to the maintenance upgrade and especially Helm 2. I hope you do well with Helm for windows (as long as you don't forget we Amiga owners.)
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · Ramblings February 17, 1995 4:51 AM
-> Thanks for the info (notice the "I don't think" in there). My pleasure. (BTW, I wasn't correcting you. I was confirming you. Sorry if it was overkill.)
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · Ramblings February 16, 1995 5:16 AM
-> No, you can't use standard copper for better than 56k (and I don't think they use it for 56k except with ISDN). As a former Central Office Technician I have installed 56kb circuits on carrier systems connected to copper and ISDN was not implimented at that time.
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · SoapBox February 15, 1995 3:44 PM
I'm not sure if Amiga clones are a good idea just yet. Let the new owners (whoever it may be) make back some of their money by making Amigas avalible from one source for a couple years.
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · SoapBox February 13, 1995 11:11 AM
-> Now imagine what it would be like to go from an '030 to an '060 or better yet a RISC Amiga. So far, I only use my Amiga for home and hobby stuff. Until I can make money with the Amiga (or hit the lottery ) I really can't…
#An Open Letter to GVP Message #185173
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · SoapBox February 11, 1995 8:37 AM
->The open letter, was posted to see if there were anyother people who wanted to vent their opinions concerning GVP. Okay, here is my opinion: I think GVP is doing the best they can in a failing market. Am I happy about their current form of support? No. Is it…
IBM emulation ques Message #183674
From: Leslie T. Bartiromo Amiga User Forum · Emulations January 30, 1995 1:37 PM
I never much paid attention to Amiga IBM emulation but now I have reason to be interested. Aside from a bridgeboard what other IBM hardware emulation is out there that will allow me to use IBM CD-ROMs? Thanks.

-> As for my Amiga, I (ahem!) don't actually own one anymore. BLASPHEMY! (Just kidding. We Amiga users have to maintain our cult image. ) What I may do is convince my brother, a clone owner, to get a Newton and connectivity kit. Then I'll leach it off him. Thanks…

I am a big fan of Director 2 but since it doesn't do AGA its use is a little limited. I have tinkered with D2 but never jumped in with both feet. One of the things I like is that you can do just about ANYTHING with Director and they…

MM210 for $150? Hmm. Something to think about. Thanks. I wasn't REALLY expecting you to sell me MM300 for $100 . I tend to agree that a big price tag lends more respectibility to a product for many in the computer world. I can't understand it but there is a…

I have heard that there would be a Windows version of UNIX, or a UNIX replacement, for several years. Personally, I think a graphic environment would make UNIX more accessable to more people. (I realize that UNIX was never meant to be an "end user" OS.) Do you think a…
