#1914- Digitizing from VCR Message #1992
From: Stephen Marano Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile October 25, 1990 11:53 PM
Fred: Just to clarify, are you saying that connecting one of the 'Macrovision defeat' boxes between my VCR and the FrameGrabber should enable me to make clean digitized images from prerecorded tapes with MacroVision copy protection?
From: Stephen Marano Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware September 28, 1990 11:33 PM
Thanks for the very helpful reply! Unfortunately, the very reason I'm looking to add memory is for graphics intensive work, so I think I'll do more exploring.
From: Stephen Marano Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware September 28, 1990 9:18 AM
I'm looking to expand the memory in my Amiga 500 beyond the internal 1MB, but would prefer not to use the side-car expansion box approach. Has anyone had long-term experience with any of the third-party internal expansion boards that can bring total RAM beyond the 1MB standard? When these boards…
#Digitizer Advice Message #1833
From: Stephen Marano Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware September 27, 1990 12:28 PM
I've left this message on the AmigaArts board, so I don't know if I'm covering a redundant set of members: What's the best value available today in video digitizers for capturing and manipulating VCR output? I'm interested in displaying and doctoring HAM images with programs like DigiPaint, Photon Paint, et…

What's the best value in Amiga video digitizers for capturing and manipulating output from a VCR? I'm interested in storing and doctoring HAM images with paint programs. I'm not particularly concerned about animation. I've heard of FrameGrabber, and was wondering how its image quality compares to DigiView. I'd also like…
From: Stephen Marano Amiga Arts Forum · Audiophile September 27, 1990 12:17 PM
Brad, I've looked at PhotonPaint 2.0 at a local store and was impressed with it's brush manipulation features. How does DigiPaint 3.0 compare to Photon for working with digitized images)? Also, I'd appreciate it if you could advise me on the best value in digitizers for capturing and doctoring captured…
#New York AmiExpo Message #105159
Does anyone know if/when the AmiExpo will be held in New York this year, or if indeed I've already missed this year's show? I've been away from the Amiga world for awhile.
CompuSave Message #12190
From: Stephen Marano AmigaTech Forum · Expansion Hardware September 19, 1988 1:21 PM
I recently read here that CompuSave will be releasing an expansion box for the A500. Does anyone have CompuSave's telephone number?

Sorry, Don. I meant 3.5" drive.

From: Stephen Marano The Amiga Forum · Hardware April 16, 1988 10:56 AM
Does anyone have any experience with an external 3.25" drive for the A500 made by a company called Lerner? A dealer that I contacted recommended that over both the 1010 and the ProDrive, but I have never heard of the Lerner drive before.

Allan, I had the same problem about a month ago – my Amiga would hang up with the Caps Lock key flashing. This occurred without warning after several months of trouble free operation. I took it back to my dealer and he reseated the chips. I haven't had a problem…

Thanks, Greg. Here are the details (I've already placed a public message on the SIG, and received some feedback, but I need more help): I've had an intermittent problem with my A500 for the past month and a half – the keyboard frequently locks up, and the Caps Lock key…

I'll take your advice and bring the topic up at the next meeting of our local users group. But I wasn't running any other program at the time, nor had any files in the ram disk. The Hearts program I ran is, I believe, the same that resides here on…

I've been experiencing another problem with my Amiga 500: there are several public domain games (Hearts, Blackjack) which won't run on it. The games will load, the screen will turn blank, the "Power" light will start flashing, and I'll receive the "Guru Meditation" message. I've assumed that the problem was…

What is the length of the warranty period? Any idea on how much a repair like this would cost if the unit is not under warranty?

I turned on my A500 tonite and discovered that the keyboard would not accept any input, although the mouse worked normally. Also, the Caps Lock light would flash every three seconds. Can anyone tell me what's wrong? A defective chip perhaps?

#96190 Amiga Photographs Message #96237
From: Stephen Marano The Amiga Forum · Videophile December 2, 1987 11:04 AM
Thanks, Lloyd. By the way, did you ever attempt to have any of your photographs enlarged? I'm curious as to how objectionable the scan lines would appear in a medium-sized photograph, say 11×14". The horizontal striations are evident upon close examination of a standard 3×5, but aren't really noticeable even…

Well, I just picked up the test photographs that I had taken of some DeluxePaint screen images, and I'm very pleased with the results. I'm no photographic expert, but the images were sharp and the colors were brilliant. Not bad considering my lack of sophistication and the conditions under which…

#94485 MultiScan Monitors Message #94817
From: Stephen Marano The Amiga Forum · Hardware November 22, 1987 9:21 PM
Pete, I'm using a Sony Multiscan (Model 1302) with my A500 and it worked fine out of the box. All you have to do is set the switch to analog mode and the monitor takes care of the rest.
#93997 Phoneme Problem Message #94005
From: Stephen Marano The Amiga Forum · Audiophile November 18, 1987 7:16 AM
You're probably right, Don. I tried to use the phonetic spelling through the SAY command in Amiga Basic, but was unable to get the command to work properly. I would type SAY "Hello" and the computer would respond with "Illegalunction Call".
Phoneme Problem Message #93970
From: Stephen Marano The Amiga Forum · Audiophile November 17, 1987 10:30 PM
I've been having trouble spelling out phonemes while using the Amiga's built-in speech synthesizer – I can't get it to recognize numeric characters as stress marks. When, for example, I type the number 4 after a vowel or dipthong, the computer repeats the number itself, rather than accepting it as…

Defective A500? Message #92181
From: Stephen Marano The Amiga Forum · Forum Business November 5, 1987 5:51 PM
I just tried out my new Amiga 500 today and received bad news – the power and disk drive light flashed in a pattern of 11 consecutive blinks, and the screen never displayed the INSERT WORKBENCH DISK message. Nor did the disk drive activate. I assume I've got a defective…
From: Stephen Marano The Amiga Forum · Hardware November 1, 1987 7:20 PM
Rodney, I was told by some people that the Spirit board could cause problems with the A500's power supply, or the system unit itself, since it doesn't come with its own power supply. Have you had any problems with underpowering or overheating?

No, I am almost 100% positive that the expansion chassis goes UNDER the case. It appears that there is a hard edge connector, not a ribbon connector joining the two, so that you could not move it. And you're right, it would be awkward to type at that height -…

Don, based on what you know of Commodore policy, and of the `enhanceability' of the Amiga, what are the prospects that any improved graphics capabilities would be made available to owners of existing A500s and 2000s? I know it's a tough question to answer, but as the expectant owner of…

I've pretty much decided to purchase an Amiga 500, but have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer: (1) I've heard reference to poor quality ontrol concerning the 500. How concerned should I be about this? Is it so bad that I should seriously consider purchasing the 2000…
