Bill, Well, the Gold Disk Power-Up for Professional Page isn't $5.00, but it is $99.00, for just owning ANY other DTP package. At the same time, you can purchase Professional Draw for just $99. (That is just $198us for both packages). It is a limited time offer so hurry and…
Chris, Although arexx can be a powerfull program, it would be very difficult to have a genie reconstruct a page or document to take it down a version or two…it would also be agonizingly slow. I don't know if Arexx could handle the difference in some of the coding (or…
Pete, There is no direct genie that will allow to do automatic serial numbering. If you are into programming genies, development suggested that you look into using the REPLACEMERGECODES genie. You would create a template and in the `invoice number' box you would place the disk based arexx macro to…
Pete, What is your system config? We have had some problems utilizing Commodores install program, but that was if the path had a space somewhere in the name (ie: WorkBench:
Michael, I know that SL is probably not at a stage to tell us who you have supporting your HotLinks system, but maybe a hint at what we may expect to be able to do…? Philip
David, According to the PANAMAX guarantee, if the unit failed the would replace the damaged equipment. Now of course no one will have a $2M system plugged in (can you imagine an old Cray plugged into a powerbar) and it is really good marketing…but if I am not home to…
Joe, I am not aware of any further theme sets of our CGFONTS collection. All fonts are available directly from Gold Disk on an individual basis. When you add up the cost of combining your own fonts, the price is about the same as the sets (at most dealers). Philip…
Mike, We don't and have never implied that we HotLink (or however SL spells it) we do state that we hot-link between specific applications (and we say which ones). I think Malcolm said it best…hot-link is like hot-key, and both terms are tossed around on many platforms. Hot-linking is only…
Chris, It appears that the dropping back of the X&Y postscript positions only effects PICA and Points. The value will not change if you have inches or CM as your measurement system. This would effect output to a desktop printer, but I am surprised you must use 1pica5 as an…
Richard, Part of the decision to stay with CGFONTS was based on CBM endorsement of outline fonts as a WB font. This would mean that you would still only require one font type on your system. What is that they say about hindsight. Philip Laitar Supervisor
Bill, Congratulations on your choice–for now ;^) Whatever packaged you purchased I am glad to see that you have put some time and effort to assess the packages and not just go by someone elses word. Very impressive and it assures that you will find a program that meets your…
There are surge protectors that may help against any lightning strike. The product is called PANAMX and they are `power bars' that help against surges, spikes and brown-outs (brouwn-outs can damage equipment as much as a lightning strike…it just happens a little at a time). When I worked retail a…
Richard, Just to clarify part of your question: Professional Page will import all (upto 24 bit IFFs) and use a 4 grey-scale representation of the image but does not load the entire bit-map into memroy. It is quite easy to have serveral high-quality 24-bit IFFs in a single document. The…
The message from Mike Todd explains it well…just make sure you have the latest version of CreateFont. It is available in the WP/DTP library here on CS. One thing Mike didn't mention is that the fonts MUST be installed in an assigned CGFonts directory before creating the PS download. If…
Ron, Is it possible to send me a problem file via CompuServe (attached to a private message in the MAIL area). Please also include your current mailing address. Philip Laitar Supervisor
It is not a bug, in order for certain changes to be made in the latest version of PDraw (3.0) the development staff changed the way Pdraw handles keymaps. Essentially, PDraw reverts back to the keymap USA, hence the problems you are experiencing. They are hoping to modify this situation…
Funny thing about computers…most users who LOVE one program and HATE the other always have and USE both! Whether it be on the Amiga with PPAGE & PStream or on DOS machines and Macs using Quark/PageMaker, Illustrator/Freehand/Corel/PDW, PageMaker/Ventura,…etc etc. You can please everyone and no one 😉 To sum it…
Gold Disk has refered to the AE link (that's Article Editor) long before Soft-Logik came up with the idea. We picked it up as generic jargon form OTHER platforms! Lets just let this one lie. 😉 Philip Laitar Supervisor
John, WB2.0 system fonts can not be used with Professional Page 3.0 (or earlier). PPage requires a specific file format, which was created before WB supported outline fonts. However, Gold Disk Type (GDT), when correctly installed into an assigned CGFonts directory, can be accessed by other programs that support WB…
#Missing Genie Rexx file
Message #65508
In a few days a new file: GENIEUP2.LZH will appear in the WP/DTP library. This is the original pak, GENIEUP.LZH but contains a missing file PPSETUP.REXX which is necessary for the update unitsconverter to work. OOPS and SORRY! 🙂 Philip Laitar Supervisor
Leslie, No, no major updates have been created of Transwrite. Sorry, but I will make a note of your suggestion. Philip Laitar Supervisor
Angel, We still support DTB and I honestly hope to see not only a fix but an update…but if/when…???? Philip Laitar Supervisor
Wayne, Sure, if you are willing to send the buggy checkbook problem, I will pass it on…BUT please include details on how we can see the problem…a developer will want to know this and chances are I will just send it along…so instructions will need to be specific. Thanks Philip…
Well Roy, Looks like with everyones help you got everything fixed…and I still don't have to worry about working weekends… 🙂 Thanks everyone! Philip Laitar Supervisor
Your pointer going busy is odd to me…I have not noticed it on any machine here when pulling down menus. When the pointer goes busy it is do to timing of the machine and maybe on yours it is a little different…I don't think it is something you should worry…
Genie Update
Message #65263
In the WP/DTP library is a file containg updates to the folowing Genies: AutoSave, Make Bar Chart (vert & horz), Units Converter, and a new genie that allows you to add labels to the existing databases. File is GENIU.LHA
Norm, The `Crash when Quit' problem (as it has come to be known) is being looked at. It was discovered quite some time ago and was discussed here briefly. To recap: It effects a very small number of machines (I know, little comfort to those it does) AND happens on…
Mike, ProDraw Windows (PDW) will operate on an OS/2 system, BUT you need windows running. All `PC' development at Gold Disk is for Windows and only windows. As for a PDW version on the Amiga…your assumption was correct in that it is beyond my relm to comment at this time.…
Wayne, Believe or not, we are still accessing Desktop Budget…I unfortunately I have no further news on it yet. Philip Laitar Supervisor
Angel, Sorry, but Tech Support has not been informed of a pending release date for Desktop Budget. Philip Laitar Supervisor
Gracia, The Triumverite-Condenced-BoldOblique font you refer to…where did it originate? Was it GDTYPE or a TYPE1 or etc.? Philip Laitar Supervisor
Mike, What about all those presidents? You must have a few extra holidays because of them? GEE! I always thought the states had more holidays then Canada! Oh well, just another great reason to live above the 49th parallel! :0 O'Canada… Philip Laitar Supervisor

Gracia, CGTriumverate and CGTimes are slightly different then our other CGFonts and were never intended to be run through CreateFont to create a PostScript download. The reason for this: we are not aware of any true Adobe (or even non-adobe) PostScript printer that does not have the basic 17 fonts…

Gracia, As far as I am aware, all of the `licensable' Agfa fonts are in the catalogue. A future version of FontManager may allow you to convert any AGFA font for use with PPage and PDraw. Any font can be ordered from the catalogue…the only important thing to remember is…
#PDraw 3.0 PS Prologue
Message #64620
John, How did you originally send the request…was it to me here on CS or was it faxed, mailed??? Philip Laitar Supervisor
#Another Holiday
Message #64214
Well, it is soon time for the first monday in August. To us Canadians that means a LONG WEEKEND!! Tech Support will be back on Tuesday! Philip Laitar Supervisor
Malcolm, I know YOU know that you can don't need AE to check tracking…but some may not. Just a tip 🙂 Philip Laitar Supervisor
Richard, The Epson I saw was a POSTSCRIPT Printer…full fledged…if I track down the model I will post it. Philip Laitar Supervisor
Pete, You can `upgrade' to Pdraw for $99 ($us) because you own PPage. In the WP/DTP library section, there is a file on the PDRAW upgrade. This should explain more. Philip Laitar Supervisor
Sorry John, but could you be more specific…I don't remeber the original question. Philip Laitar Supervisor
It is not necessary to send text to AE to check the amount of tracking applied. Select tracking from the menu or press right-amiga w to bring up the requestor showing the numeric value of tracking. Philip Laitar Supervisor
The disk provided with AmigaFormat was PAGESETTER I and did not contain a manual or reg card…technically, it does not qualify for GOLD DISK TECH SUPPORT (this is provided free of charge to registered owners who purchased a full working copy of the program with manual, reg. cards, etc.). Buyers…
Jim, We want an easy too use UI for all the extended keyboard characters…if the ` and the ' or the " were replace globaly by a `smartquote' automatically how would you access the single quotes or the inch mark when need them. All three can be used many times…
Gracia, No, unfortunately there is no way to purge the font size list…in PPage 3.0 we put the ADD button in to help prevent this…once added howerver…:) The outline fonts we supply (called GOLD DISK TYPE) is the entire AGFA INTELFONT library that we can supply. It does contain ITC…
Jim, The manual does not really mention this…this occures because of the AUTOTILE feature that was added in PPAGE3.0…because of the autotile, we had to know what the max. printable area of your preference printer driver is. PPage will read this and restrict you to this size. If your WB…
Bug in PPage 3.0
Message #63867
Thanks Mike…we are aware of this and I think it is reference some where on the system. To help users who want to open in non-interlace as the defualt to work around this (those using Arexx anyway), set your icon tooltype to open in interlace BUT set the SAVEPREFS Genie…
Michael, If you ordered and received ProDraw 2.0 you have all of the tutorial files…If you ordered ProDraw 3.0 and received ONLY ProDraw 3.0 (two disks compressed) then you may want the tutorial files. The install program on PDraw 3.0 will allow you to update your current hard drive directory…
Jim, As far as I am aware, double open and closed quotes are not mapped on the Amiga Keyboard. This makes it difficult to support in the software. With Professional Page you could use two single quotes “text'' and TRACK them closer. This is also a handy way to get…
Jim, If you are using WB1.3 you are limited to an area of about 8×10" even if you are using a legal size page. If you are under WB2.0 you can set your page size under workbench prefs to legal and set the `output page size ' to 8 x…
Andrew, Actually, the Amiga UK mags are VERY popular in North America (well Canada anyway). Most of the computer stores carry them, as well as some bookstores (usually without the ever popular disk). They can be rather expensive, running as high as $14 canadian. The UK mags offer a very…
