#197157 Bogus files erase HD Message #197246
The bogus pkz300 has actually been around for a couple of months. Sounds like someone is just doing a better (?) job of spreading it around. LAM
#197232 Rendering Plant BBS Message #197245
Jim Lammers, who runs the Rendering Plant, is interested in Telnet access, but doesn't have that capability yet. LAM
My understanding is that the dongle is polled at startup, and at various times otherwise. It is not polled during the rendering process. LAM
OK, I'll try again . Have you tried lowering the Path/Steps value? The default is 5, and can be either increased or decreased. LAM
Path/steps in Lofter? LAM
#196673 XYZ plane conversion Message #196718
I went through and collected various threads from over the past year on quaternions, and sources of information regarding them. I will upload these threads as QUATERN.ZIP in Lib 3. This file will become public in a day or so. LAM
#196020 Depth of field?? Message #196473
Saw that nobody else who actually know's what they are talking about is answering, so I'll speak up . What you are looking for is refered to as "rack-focus". LenzFX supports this. There are several files out in the libraries which might be of interest. Do a keywork search on…

From: Larry Minton Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage October 21, 1995 11:19 PM
This problem occurs when the executable becomes adulterated. This can be from a virus or from other sources. I would recommend checking your system for virus', then reinstalling 3DS from the original shipping floppies. If the error messages persist, please call your dealer for help and possibly a new set…
#196411 LenZFX 2 Problems Message #196471
From: Larry Minton Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage October 21, 1995 11:19 PM
It sounds like file LZFXGI.TGA in Lib 1 will take care of it. LAM
#196244 LenzFX 2.0 problems Message #196362
From: Larry Minton Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage October 20, 1995 9:19 PM
Liquid soap was invented because bar soap is non-hygenic. Too much bacteria lives and grows on it. So if you ever model a bar of soap in 3ds, be sure to include all the little bugs (just to stay on topic here ). LAM
#196134 Shutter opening Message #196182
I just did a text search on "shutter" on all messages for the past year, no hits on what you are talking about. LAM

It sounds like you have the incorrect video driver set. From the command prompt do a "3ds vibcfg", and select the correct video card for each setting. It sounds like whomever lent you their copy of 3ds may not have included the manuals. Better get them or you will be…
#195737 New System Help? Message #195828

#195653 File Corruption Message #195827
re: invalid project files: there is a thread file dealing with these in the libraries. Look for INVPRJ.ZIP. It seems to be usually caused by hard disk controller problems, or network problems (if you are saving across the net). LAM
#195630 Star Wars Message #195826
I just uploaded a thread file on text in 3ds. It contains various threads dealing with text, including a description of how Yost Group did the same thing as you are trying to do. The file should be available in Lib3 in a day or so. File name in TEXT.ZIP.…
#195586 Help: PVR + alpha? Message #195651
You won't have any problems running alpha-split regardless of the color depth of your display. The alpha channel is at a lower layer of code than the video drivers. LAM

But it's not as good as mine . Jim actually was looking for the Select script Kyle put together for selecting faces. Imagine that, two scripts with the same name . Actually I had to modify mine because both out routines use a 3de file, and people were getting the…
#195472 winner 2000 pro/x 8 Message #195520
This is going to sound really stupid, but try decreasing the refresh rate at whatever resolution you are running 3ds in and see if that helps. I have an ATI Mach 64, and if I set the refresh rate above 60Hz, I get an error message the Bios doesn't support…
#195487 os2 Message #195519
I haven't had any video problems running 3ds under os/2 like you are. It definitely sounds like a video driver problem of some sort. Have you tried just using the vga or vesa driver to verify that everything is ok that way? You may also want to try decreasing your…

3ds will still accept keyboard input, so you just need to do and escape and a carriage return. This all isn't the cleanest way of doing things, but it works . LAM
#194791 #3ds V3 backgrounds Message #194853
are you sure that you don't have another file called bg_2 in a directory which is in the map paths before the one you want? LAM
I uploaded a bunch of threads on invalid rats-nests as RATSNEST.ZIP. UStation seemed to be a common cause . You should look at that file and see what the collective wisdom is. LAM
Dave's CIS address is 70214,774. LAM
#194324 os2 Message #194494
Generally speaking, if you are doing paging while running 3ds, running under os/2 will be faster than running under dos. Os/2 will handle the paging, and can do it faster than the PharLap dos extender in 3ds. As long as I didn't have other tasks running at the same time,…
I just uploaded 2 thread collections – one on booleans and the other on invalid rats-nest. Should show up tomorrow. UStation seemed to be a common problem source for invalid rats-nests. LAM
Not positive, but I think there was a demo version of drape, but then it was never released. LAM
I have a copy of several threads dealing with invalid rats nest. Most of them seem to deal with Ustation . I'll prune those threads out and upload them as a file tonite or tomorrow. LAM

I have an AVI file at work showing the "lighting of the charcoal". Yep, the RIGHT way to warm up about 60 pounds of charcoal. It's about 50 megs long. LAM PS: They used 3 gallons of liquid oxygen. Can you say good-bye grill ?

#193284 #VBPLAY:VBX & WIN95 Message #193353
From: Larry Minton Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Autodesk Animator September 30, 1995 10:36 PM
VBPLAY.VBX interfaces with aaplay.dll. There have been problems reported with trying to run full screen flics using aaplay.dll under WIN95. The fli/flc routines are growing long in the tooth, and you may want to consider alternative file formats. LAM

Here is a previous message: 1) Copy the file MCIAAP.DRV to your \windows\system subdirectory. 2) Load the file SYSTEM.INI into an editor, such as notepad under Windows, or Edit under DOS 5.0. 3) Locate the line '[mci]' (without the apostrphe's). If this section does not exist, you may add it…

Pricing shouldn't be included in a message if you are trying to buy or sell something in the forum. For something like this, which is of interest to various people, go ahead and give the price. Unless you are going to start selling them . LAM

I looked through some older messages, and found a little more info on 3dturbo. 3dturbo is similar to optimize, but also imbeds an optimized model inside the more detailed model. It also supposively hides backfaces, so that the on-screen redraw time is less. Not sure from what view the backfaces…

Yeah! I helped solve a problem ! Just watch it with qemm though, there are so many options that you will start tinkering with them to get more memory, and all of a sudden discover that your floppy disk is working any more . I believe that 3DTurbo speeds up…

The ncdebug statement could have come from anywhere . I don't think that it is important for the concern at hand. It sounds like the os/2 video driver isn't supporting background execution if the application is in graphics mode. Bummer. About all I can suggest is to try selecting the…

The ability to run 3ds as a svga or vga session in the background depends on whether the os/2 video driver supports it. Most drivers seem to support it, some do not. With your card, I'm not sure, but it should. You are probably using drivers written by S3, which…

Not sure under what conditions you can recover the files. I think it makes a difference on what pallette mode you are running in: low, medium, or high. High, I believe are basically targa files (16M color). Low and medium are 256 color encoded, and may (or may not) be…

Do a search in the libraries for the keyword "play". There are several product announcements out there for various types of players. LAM
