Mr. Vargas may have been impressive, but his first computer wasn't. Sounds like one of those folks who never got over the fact that the SY's couldn't compete with the Amiga.
I'd be interested in one of the chips also. Not having any SCSI problems here, but it would be nice to get the chip before I do.
Thanks for the info. The distribution disk that came with the card, did not have Xi Paint on it,. Retina Display works ok for Jpegs, but doesn't recognize Gifs. (At least under 2.04.) The manual shows that there should be a selection for AA Emulation in Retina Emu, under the…
Does Imagemaster support the Retina cards? What graphics formats will Imagemaster support?

I'm most likely to register, if I can do it by phone. There is that type of service in existance. I used it to register my Mac version of Zip. Much more satisfactory that waiting for a couple of weeks for a letter back from somebody across the country, or…
Just think, somewhere in an alternate reality, C= made all the right turns at each fork in the road. Somewhere the Amiga is king of the hill, and there is a Bill Gates, former chairman and CEO of the defunct Microsoft corporation, who hung to the PC too long before…
#Retina Question?
Message #197472
Looking for a Retina Guru. (No, not the software crash kind. ) Just installed a Retina ZII card. (2 meg of ram). Looks to be working Ok, if I can get WB to fill all of the Retina screen, I'd be even more thrilled. However, my big question right now,…
Since C= was liquidated, I believe there is no more ownership of anything by the stockholders. Everything was handed over to the creditors due to the inability to pay the debts. The only value of the stock certificats, is as collectors items. There is no more company for which those…
Life is what we make of it…. Some have an easier time than others, because of ability or priveledge. However, given enough drive, a modicum of ability, and the teeniest bit of luck…. A slow miserable life is lived, only if one accepts the slow miserable life. I was not…
Nothing wrong with Omega, the last computer you'll ever need to buy. It'll take the competition a lifetime to catch up.
In todays market, at least in the U.S., the larger hard drives are not much more money than a small one. (ie. in IDE drives an 850 meg drive is $40 more than a 540 meg drive) SCSI drives have similar pricing increments. While we may save 20 meg on…

SACC… I was one of the original members. Believe I still have the first monthly disk around here someplace. I started the newsletter. For about three months it was called The No Name News, because we didn't have a name for the club for the first two months, and the…

Well, first you would have to define "better". Is a man/woman who was happy living in the rain forrest better off, after they have been introduced to polluting technology, and have burned off the trees, to try to make money to by gadgets, by farming the poor soil? At the…

If ESCOM licenses the chips for a laptop, I hope they make them CMOS before they do. Otherwise the battery life will be under an hour for a low weight laptop.
Unless they have a mountain of 1200s amd 4000s to get rid of, I don't see any reason for blowing as much "smoke" as they have been. Unless they are run by rabid Anti Amiga fanatics who were part of the world wide plot to buy the Amiga to prevent…

If Dell had decided
Message #196333
Most heartily agreed. The only sane path for Dell would have been to market it as a video platform, and put development efforts in that direction. As a matter of fact, the same holds true for ESCOM. At least as regards U.S. sales. That there are a couple of word…
I don't have a problem running any of the software in any configuration on my SVGA monitor off of my 3000. Though if you pick 640×400 and turn off the deinterlacer, the jitter comes back.
I'd be interested in seeing who the "adoptive father" of the Amiga is. Go ahead and upload the picture.

I'd feel a little more positive, if he were a little more positive about the U.S.. The folks in Germany, and most of Europe look to be in good position. However I'll feel better about a U.S. revival when I hear something more concrete. Perhaps he should contact those folks…
The vast majority of PC users will tell you that true multitasking is unimportant. "I can only really keep track of one thing at a time." "Except for multiuser systems, who is really going to need to run more than one piece of software at a time?" "It really just…
I'm not sure that you could round up a lot of new developers for a new 8 bit machine. Look at the problems the Amiga has with support, and there are millions of them in existance. A C65, would require people to take a chance developing for a 0 installed…
Perhaps one of those folks with a Radio Shack CoCo has a copy of OS/9 floating around. At one time they were pretty common.

While the Amiga would fill in the lower price range, does it really make sense to sell two machines from the same company, that are totally incompatible? Yes Apple did it during the coexistance of the ][ amd the Mac, and C= did it during the days of C64/Amiga and…
I don't think Apple actually copied the RCA jacks from the Amiga. I think they stole those from Xerox, and then tried to sue IBM, then they started putting them in MS Dos machine sound cards. Which is why they have mini phone jacks to this day.
Oh, Gracia… Nuthin could be finah than to be in Carolina…. While the english may not be up to New Yawk standards, I do miss the Carolinas. 2 years in Charlotte, 1 year on Oak Island, and 2 1/2 years in Charleston. The friendship and hospitality I've been shown in…
Was that "momentary", or monetary? By definition, momentary success, would indeed be brief. Thus, if a compaies success were brief, then it would seem to follow that there would indeed be trouble after the momentary success were over.
You can blame it all on my Mom. She always told me, that if it was Marian, it was a girl, and if it was Marion, it was a boy. I'll have to speak to her and set her straight on all this.
Those RCA jacks were quite special in comparison to the squwaks that came out of the native PC sound system.
I think the reason that few were really interested in running PC software on the Amiga, was because the average Amiga buyer didn't have PC interests. So the PC capability didn't sell Amigas to any but those who needed some PC capability. If the same is true with the Mac,…
If the teachers of your schoel would not accept documented proof of the true history of Microcomputers, and once informed, would not tell the real story, then I would say that there is a _REAL_ problem with the teachers at your school. Which would also lead me to ask, what…
I don't know for sure… If the Chinese adopt the Japanese model of protecting the areas where they can't compete, and then competing where they can, they could pull it off. The biggest draw back I see, is that there is not any world class major buisness software for the…
Well, if the guy was an IBM executive, and made a statement that OS/2 for Intle machines was ended, he may indeed be close ot Microsoft by now
Wasn't aware that PCI v2.0 was already shipping. Last I heard Intel was supposedly still working on the specs. Guess what I should have said was I was wondering if the PCI bus in the Apple machines would be 1.0 or the newer standard. Even so, while the bus may…
Nope, no Windows 95. Just the Windows that came installed on the machine. The price point of the Toaster helped sell it, and start the revolution. (It put desk top video within the reach of the dedicated amatuer as well as the full blonw production facility.) Had Newtek chosen another…
Torturing Engineeers…. I _LIKE_ IT!!!! Better yet, they should be assigned to come finish my project, on time, and I will give them the details on the requirements, at the same level of completeness and useability, as their documentation.
Wasn't suggesting that anyone should live on past laurels. Just said that people can take pride in the fact that the Amiga technology helped get desktop video where it is today. Much the same way Mac users can take pride in the fact that the Mac launched the GUI revolution,…
Video is definetly being implemented on all platforms. However, Video was one of the things that the Amiga was designed around when it was first built. When the first Toaster surfaced, it was not the first Amiga video product. It was however, one of the best. The video community at…
Hmmm… Can't say on that one. Depending on prices, ESCOM may have no trouble at all keeping up with world wide demand. Look at Atari, they find it quite easy to produce both those boxes sold every month.
No problem in making 1200's that will accept 4000 parts, or 600's for that matter. Except for the fact that it would make it more expensive for the factory to produce 600's and 1200's. The idea was to make them cheaply as entry level machines. However, you have a bunch…
Well, I'll put it this way… They only time I've seen support dropped for a product falls into one of two categories. 1. There is no money left to be made supporting the product. (You'd have a hard time supporting a family of four on sales of new TI99/4a software,…

Golly, C= U.K., ESCOM, and CEI had a whole year to sort out patents, and none of them seemed to be worried that there was a patent problem. I would suspect that it was more on the order of clear title to patents that they hoped to make money on…

If Dell wasn't brought in till 10 days before the sale, and they were a "Omega yeah….", then they must be a pretty easy sale. I would suspect that Dell was quite aware of who C=/Amiga were. Whether or not they viewed them as a threat/serious competitor, is a whole…
If you are planning on staying with the Amiga on the order of years, I'd say go ahead and buy the 4000. They sold more 1200's than 4000's, but the 4000 can use cards from the 2000/3000 also, which I believe the 2000 sold way more machines than the 1200.…
By your user id, I see that you do not live in the United States. Here in the U.S. there are regulations about what you can, and cannot do to vendors of your products. Microsoft has agreed here to quit do some things that others complained were restraint of trade,…
Actually, you don't have to put the Pentium in an IBM compatible motherboard. However if you didn't, you would not be comaptible with anything currently being produced, either OS or software. At which point you would face the damn near impossible task of marketing a brand new computer/operating system, and…
That would all depend on how well the Chinese were faring economically. If the Chinese economy were booming, you would find U.S. entrepenuers (sp?) snapping up those little 3.25" disks and computers as fast as they could find them. Especially if they were needed to run the software, communicate, and…
Up until now, dos compatiblity was necessary. However, most current software has a Windows version. Much of the current software is focusing on the Windows version, and only giving lip service to the dos versions. Now is the time to bring out an OS that does not use the old…
I've sold my share of Amigas by personally demoing them at home, but it is really hard to get that many folks into my place on a regular basis. Unless collared by an Amiga user, they follow blindly along. Even then I've had some that thought the Amiga was really…
The 1000 was not a closed console. While not as easy to expandas a slotted machine, as you needed an external chassis, you could expand them. At the time of its debut, it was not considered a game machine. It was actually considered almost too high tech. The IBM user…
Sad part is, that when the C64 first came out, people were astounded that you could get a full 64K computer for that price. At that time Appple ]['s with a full 64K were selling for more than a base Pentium does now. What really hobbled the 64 was no…
