I believe I asked before, but, who did you order the Amiga Unix 2.1 unlimited license from??? My dealer is out of business. I contacted every dealer I found in Amiga World, only the Software Hut had Unix, but they had the 2-user license. Any help would be appreciated. -Jay…

Does anyone know if SCSI-2 disks can be used on an Amiga 3000, running Amiga Unix 2.1. This is a 3 year old machine, and I do not believe the controller is a SCSI-2 controller. Just curious if anyone knew of any problems using SCSI-2 with this machine? -Jay Pedersen
#41152 SCSI CD-ROM Message #41159
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX May 23, 1994 6:53 PM
I don't believe a "CD-ROM driver" is required. At least if a SCSI CD-ROM is used. I think the question is whether the file system "hsfs" – I believe that is it – for high sierra file system, is supported. -Jay Pedersen
#SCSI CD-ROM Message #41149
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX May 23, 1994 1:33 AM
Does anyone know whether the Amiga Unix software, version 2.1, supports CD-ROM. Can a SCSI-2 CD-ROM be plugged into the SCSI port and be mounted, say using high-sierra file system?? I would be interested to know of any successful CD-ROM usage with Amiga Unix. -Jay Pedersen

From whom did you order this?? I am interested myself, and don't know of anyone selling the Amiga Unix software. Is this Amiga Unix release 2.1, unlimited license??? -Jay Pedersen

I am in need of the Amiga ethernet card – to run Amiga Unix of all things. Apparently Commodore does not make this card anymore?? If anyone knows of where I could purchase said card, or someone has a card to sell – I would sure appreciate it. The ASDG…

I am located in Omaha, Nebraska. But perhaps this dealer would be willing to mail order. My understanding is that Commodore does not make the board any more. But if this dealer has it, I would be willing to pay new price (presuming it works). If you could give me…

I am in need of the Commodore ethernet card for an Amiga 3000, the ASDG E9B20 (or whatever the name is) card will not do. If anyone has the actual Commodore card or knows of a dealer who carries them, I would appreciate the information. Please send mail to 76130,2404.
Upgrade to unlimited Message #37232
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX October 3, 1993 11:22 PM
I have Amiga Unix 2.1, 2-user licence. Unfortunately, I did not purchase the unlimited license when Commodore was still selling it. I cannot get anyone from Commodore to talk to me about Unix, let alone upgrade. If there is anyone out there who happens to have the unlimited license and…

From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX September 7, 1993 10:56 PM
If you can get it – it is a full implementation of SVR4 (not the absolute latest SVR4.2, but not far behind). It contains TCP/IP, X-Windows (Open Look), full development system for TCP/IP and X-Windows (Open Look). The same functionality in software from SCO Unix cost about $5000.00 (development system,…
#34903 #How Dead Is it? Message #34915
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX May 23, 1993 10:49 AM
About the addressing modes. The story I was told by the Commodore rep at WOA (in 1991) was exactly that. He said that the 040 does not support the same addressing modes as the 030. And some of the addressing modes in the assembly code in Unix used addressing modes…
#34831 How Dead Is it? Message #34835
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX May 19, 1993 12:43 AM
I think the answer to why they didn't make it run on the '040 was that the "base" software from AT&T has mucho assembly code which uses addressing modes not supported by the '040. That was the word I got from a Commodore rep at WOA 2 years ago. They…
#34830 How dead is it? Message #34834
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX May 19, 1993 12:39 AM
I have to agree that it is a shame that Amiga Unix is dead. Commodore did come out with the "software-only" for Unix for under $1000.00, try to get that from SCO. The same package (Development, TCP/IP, X-Windows) is around $5000.00 from SCO just for the software. The only thing…

A3000UX owners Message #34693
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX May 10, 1993 11:28 PM
Now that good old Commodore has shut down their Unix doors, I am looking for some of the other poor souls who had the misfortune of giving Commodore way too much money for the A3000UX. I am looking to possibly start some type of support group for ourselves, since Commodore…
#34599 C/Sorting strings Message #34643
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming May 6, 1993 12:37 AM
I recommend using fgets to read the line, then use sscanf to process/parse the line. This seems to me to give you better control. You always know where the file is positioned to – unlike scanf which leaves the position be if it does not match the format string. -Jay…

From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX April 30, 1993 10:49 PM
Good old Commodore. Did you hear any reasons? I know it wasn't compatible with 68040, and it was unlikely to ever be compatible with it. Was it the AGA? They didn't want to bother to support AGA for the Amiga Unix? Just curious, I guess it's water under the bridge…

I have heard about 50-Mhz 68030 processors, is it possible to upgrade from a 25-Mhz to a 50-Mhz processor on an A3000? This would be another way to boost performance other than to get a '040. -Jay Pedersen

Does anyone have any info on any plans for '040' support for Amiga Unix??? Are they waiting for USL to update the "base", or is it just not something that they are planning to do much work on.
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX December 25, 1992 8:33 PM
I believe Unix was first written on DEC PDP-7, precursor to the PDP-11, which was the precursor to the VAX-11. This was done starting back in 1969. Footnote: Bell System Technical Journal, July-August 1978, Vol 57, No 6, Part 2. ISSN0005-8580 I did hear the same rumor that the name…
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX December 6, 1992 3:55 PM
Last I header, Unix would not run on the 68040, because the USL "base" was made for the 68020 and uses addressing modes not supported by the 68040. So … as far as I know, you can't run unix on an Amiga 4000 with a 68040. Does anyone know different?…

Are there only specific drives that will work as the "boot" drive for an A3000? For example, when you buy an A3000 you can get either 50, 100 or 200 MB drives (200 for Unix box anyway). Can any other size drive be used to replace these? Say a 250MB…
truss command Message #27061
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX August 19, 1992 7:08 PM
Just as a FYI. You can try "truss " on any command, truss displays each system call that is made along with the parameters (each "open", "read", etc). This is an SVR4 command – but since Amiga Unix is SVR4 its okay. It's interesting to try on ls, etc, just…
#26152 What *is* Amiga Unix Message #26154
From: Jay G Pedersen Amiga Tech Forum · Amiga UNIX July 25, 1992 8:45 AM
I believe it requires a 68030, or a 68020 with an MMU, something like that. So it will only run on Amiga 3000s, or Amiga 2500s. The Unix software, which you can buy from an Amiga dealer, runs about $950 for a 2-user license, or something like $1200 for unlimited…
