From: CLEMENTE Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Hware/OpSys/video October 23, 1995 3:04 PM
Hello everyone, while we are the discussion of HD I am experiencing a small problem. After running Speed Disk I found access maps from my IMAGES directory to take at least 10 times longer than from the MAPS directory or any other directory for that matter. Any clues??? Thanx, pHred

I was not particularly impressed with the system requirements to generate vegetation with Schrieber's Nursery…They look pretty good but took forever to create on a P90 w/64 megs. pHred

#178816 #Bug report #9GXE64 Message #179182
John, will there be an affect in performance if my main display is setup for 256 colours while my material editor is configured for 65,000 or 16.7m colours? Does the card take the extra time to flip between resolutions and number of colours? Thanx, pHred

PMJI, Nik I have a p90 with the GXE64 PRO w/ 4megs of VRAM and find that the system takes too long to go from the Material Ed. to any module. It is not that big of a deal, but I find it kind of strange that my Mach32 on…
good-humored violence) was what they added . . . MUSIC! I don't recall the old cartoons having much more than lead-in and fade out music, with the rest of the time filled only with sound effects. I only just realized this. That cr****y sound track always used to irk me.…
Mark, God bless you. I just tried your IPAS routine…very nice. Surely your effort is worth something. Great Work. : ) Much Appreciated, pHred

#169294 3DS/NT: CANCELLED! Message #170064
Don. I guess they are banking on the fact that the day will not come anytime soon. I have a feeling that they will make the same mistake Apple made. They won't take us seriously until it is too late. I am really tired of those MAC commericals harping on…
>>fact that it lacks content… John there is plenty of material on the tube that lacks content but does great with attracting and holding an audience. I like the Reboot storyline, but would prefer to watch Porky Pig, Bugs Bunny, and Wile E Coyote. pHred
>>The pseudo-techno-gibberish they spout is total nonsense… Albert, "…change is not only inevitable, but it is necessary…" The wise words of the legendary Frank Zappa. I kind of like the storyline. pHred, Respecting your opinion
#168502 #3DS/NT: CANCELLED! Message #169220
Don do you really think that SGI fate is already determined. Mac has always made the error of going outside of its niche and trying to enter into the "GATES" (pun intended) as unwelcomed guest. However I think SGI is doing the right thing by staying on the higher end.…

Thanx Bob for your reply. The imaging dep't where I work just obtained a demo model of a Tektronix Dye Sub, I will be able to run all my proofs and update my portofolio for free. Someone out there must really care for me. I have access to Illustrator, Quark,…

#Canon Output Message #167928
Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good way of outputting to a canon colour copier. I need an 8.5 x 11 proof of a still I created. What resolution should I generate the file at? What file format should I save it as? I am still on Release 3…

Did I mention the great fishing we have up here? Or all the great places to visit in the city. We also have the Bluejays, a great Canadian baseball team with all American players. And I thought I was going to laughed at for suggesting Toronto. Thanx for the warm…
#166878 Delayed 3DS Startup Message #167089
I guess the folks @ ATI never fixed that problem. I had the exact same problem with my ATI Mach64, I was lucky enough to exchange it with a Number 9 GXE64 Pro. #9 doesn't have as many bells and whistles but the performance is solid. I don't know if…
#Toronto for SIGGRAPH Message #167088
From: CLEMENTE Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads April 27, 1995 4:40 PM
How about bringing SIGGRAPH up to Toronto. It is a big city with fewer big city problems and although funny looking, the Canadian dollar is cheap ($1.40 for every American dollar). Technology is on the cutting edge, it is the home of Alias Research, ATI Technologies, DPS, etc. Aside from computer…
#166016 PVR?..PVR?… Message #166164
Gary, I had placed an order for my Par/RP a few weeks ago but was lucky enough to pull out. The PVR specs are quite impressive and the fact that it supports SCSI is great. The card is supposed to be shipping June/July. Check out the PERFAQ.TXT in the library…

David thanx for your help on the pyramid. pHred "I wish I could write something here as cool as David" Clemente
Thomas, do not quote me on this but I saw Reboot a while back and thought it was just incredble myself. I beleive it is done on the SGI (Alias software???) platform by a company located in Vancouver, Canada. The characters and storylines are comical.
#160665 3D Lofter/Fit Message #160775
Jack, thanx for the tip. You were right about the horizontal lines. However "slighty" is always too much and editing in the 3D Editor is still required. Much appreciated, pHred
#3D Lofter/Fit Message #160547
Anyone help me on this one? I drew a shape resembling steps in the 2D shaper and then brought them into the 3D lofter via Deform/Fit command. I then brought in a simple square from the shaper to loft along the path and generated the new path. When I went…

#158244 ATI Graphics/Vibrant Message #158570

Bob, thanx for the reply. I kinda like Steve suggestions about having the 2sided option on only for the meshes that require it. I am thinking with the proper foresight and prototype drawings setup, many of the materials can be automatically placed onto the meshes by having the ACAD.mli loaded…
Jonas, thanx alot for the info on the IPAS routine available for a cleaner DXF translation into 3DS. Have you ever used Auto Architect? What can you tell me about how it works with 3DS. I think Auto Architect is great (aside from a few bugs), but I am just…

I do not know of any translator which will allow you to use TTF fonts in 3DS. However I have found myself using Corel Draw to convert the particular string of text into curves, breaking it apart and then finally DXFing out. Seems like a lengthy process but it does…
#3DS and AutoArchitect Message #157137

Please help!!!!! I just picked up a new P90 with 32Megs and an ATI64 with 4Meg VRAM… The ATI drivers for 3DS are to say the list, pathetic… It takes approx. 1 min. to boot up 3DS… Furthermore, it takes just as long to switch between modules… And if that…
