From: Guy Galer Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio October 18, 1995 11:14 AM
I would like to duplicate the way a camera's shutter opens and closes. I did it a long time ago but I don't want to go through that throught process again. Thanks.
#194925 RAPTOR and 3DS Message #195089
From: Guy Galer Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Hware/OpSys/video October 12, 1995 2:55 PM
I read that, but wanted to know more about performance. The machine in the test had limited RAM that would greatly affect performance. Let me know if you hear anything. Thanks.

#192483 Skin Problems Message #192812
From: Guy Galer Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage September 27, 1995 10:17 AM
Found the problem. I was making mirror copies of the hand and this caused problems with the normals in skin. So, if I click the flip normals in the skin settings then everything is okay. Thanks.
#Skin Problems Message #192457
From: Guy Galer Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage September 25, 1995 2:20 PM
I created a hand using skin and then merged it with another project that had the rest of the body. The hand then started to have problems. Example, the fingernail which are not skinned are showing through the finger tips. Also, the ase of the fingers is showing through the…

I am trying to track how the computer graphics/post production/productions industries are doing. Does anyone know where I can get some free info? I know there are expensive reports I can buy, but I'd rather not. Thanks.

Come on Paul, send something private if you want.

I know that 3DS is surely more stable and has a better interface than Softimage. To me, the question is the power worth it? I know this means that you need the power to create these things, but if you do, is it a good choice. Also, what kind of…
#180526- #Softimagine 3D vs. 3DS Message #180556
Paul, Could you go into a little more detail. I am interested in when you used it too and what you thought about the interface. I have seen some really impressive things done with Softimage. Thanks.
Not to keep stiring these product vs. product wars, but has anyone used Softimage 3D and how does it compare to 3D Studio.
#179791 3DS vs. Alias Message #179867
From: Guy Galer Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads July 13, 1995 10:39 AM
Ron, Thanks for the insight. I have been wrestling with this one for awhile. I used do all my 3-D on a Amiga, using Impulse's Imagine. I was using Turbo Silver originally and all the complaints about user interfaces on SGI software cannot compete with Impulse. 3DS has spoiled me.…
#179759 #Buying SGI Equipment Message #179855
What quality output does it have? Like SVHS or Betacam SP. Does it use SMPTE? I saw a demo of it once and liked it, but I'm not a big fan of Macs. One more question, for 90K how much video can you store?
#179281 #Buying SGI Equipment Message #179305
Kevin, Thanks for the feedback. Let me tell you where I am trying to go with this whole thing. First, I am looking at music videos and commercials. I want to be able to incorporate 2d effects, 3d animation and live video with an output that is atleast Betacam SP.…
#178900 #Buying SGI Equipment Message #179249
The cost I have figured for buying a MediaSuite Pro online editing and a SGI Indigo Extreme is around $100,000. To me, that seems better than spending half that on a proprietary system that probably does not look as good. If you have some alternatives for Non Linear Editing I…
#179209 #Buying SGI Equipment Message #179245
What are the maintenance charges on the SGI hardware and software?
#178946 Buying SGI Equipment Message #179244
I would like to comment that I am not stuck on Alias. I just know a lot of people that use it, but it seems to be more for modeling. I like Studio 3d a lot, in fact, I would guess I would still use it for some things. It…
#178799 S3d vs. Alias Message #178883
Does the SGI Studio 3D do much in developing the animation or is it primarily for rendering everything out.
#178869 S3d vs. Alias Message #178882
That's a little unfair 🙂 Alias has more features than 3DS and can produce certain effects (fire) that look a lot better. Regards, Rob @ Mirage Ltd. What else does it do better?
#178784 Buying SGI Equipment Message #178881
I get your argument, but I have always wanted as much power as I could on one machine than spreading it out. Why? For me, developing the objects and laying the scene out takes up most of my time. Having 200 486 would be a big rendering farm, but would…
#178755 Buying SGI Equipment Message #178880
I am looking at gettting the MediaSuite Pro from Avid and runnning it on a SGI Indigo Extreme. I will demo this before buying it, but I don't think the SGI runs that much more for online editing. I want to have at least Betacam SP quaility output in real…
#S3d vs. Alias Message #178746
I am looking into moving to SGI equipment and Alias Power Animator. I use Studio 3d now. I would like some feedback on this move. Is anyone using the Studio 3d module on SGI yet? Any problems? Thanks.
#Buying SGI Equipment Message #178745
I am looking into buying an SGI workstation and wondered if anyone had some advice. Thanks?
#RENAMING OBJECTS-SKIN Message #176034
From: Guy Galer Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage June 19, 1995 9:37 AM
I have the skin routine and version Studio 3d 3.00. I am dealing with a large number of slices and wondered if there was an easier way to renumber the each object. It would save me a ton of R&D time.
#Skinned ENTIRE BODY Message #175602
From: Guy Galer Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage June 15, 1995 3:46 PM
I have been using deform/fit and skin to create a human body. I am trying to keep the body looking like it one complete mesh. The main problem is linking the legs to the torso without it looking like two seperate objects. Do you have suggestions. I know other cover…
I am using the deform/fit to create limbs and a torso. It have several cross-sections to add and it does not seem to be a very easy way to do this. If I preview, I can get a view at what my deform does, but is there an easy way…
#173558 #Human bodies ??? Message #174402
The Special Effects by New Riders has a section on using the Yost #6 skin feature to create a muscular man. However, some of what is done could be done without the IPAS. The shapes are made by using the deform/fit in thw lofter. This works for the limbs and…
#174155 Morph problem Message #174196
I did the move shift copy method. I did not do anythin else to them other than apply a different surface.
#Morph problem Message #173941
I created a television that I had several flics tied to. I was then going to morph the screens into each other. I several copies of the screen and put different maps on them. When I went to morph, the morph ojects rotated and moved although the original object had…

From: Guy Galer Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage May 22, 1995 10:07 AM
I have IPAS DISK 6 and was doing an animation with a spaceship and two flame rockets thrusters. I have the flame box linked to the rocket. As the rocket moves, the flames slide further and further away from the ship. Help! Thanks.

#Non-linear Choices Message #170732
I am looking for a broadcast solution to play 3ds animations, capture live video and keep sound in sync. I use a PAR on an AMIGA-transfering files from my Pentium. I only need under ten minutes play. Not sure how well Par captures video. Thanks.
