To throw some more wood on the fire… My contacts in the UK tell me that CBM UK is still operating fine and that CBM management in the UK and Germany is still there. UK is very upbeat and say that there are 5 deals on the table and Samsung…
#148719- #AmiBack upgrade Message #148802
From: Charles Hill Amiga User Forum · Personal Apps May 26, 1994 3:45 PM
Wayne, I'll take notes and see what I can do. Tech support is free for the first 90 days and costs there after. Yes, the names on ABTools confuses me, too. Sorry, I'll see what I can do. AmiBack has a "Build Index" function to scan the disks. I've complained…

IDI *is* supporting Moonlighter's products: AmiBack, AmiBack Tools & Tapeworm. "Ongoing" items are being looked in to. Items that have ben reported and confirmed as bugs will be addressed in both minor and major upgrades of all three packages. Since I officially work for the retail part of the company,…

New Horizons gone? Message #146665
I've just received a notice from one Amiga distributor (MicroPace) that New Horizons software is no longer in business. When we tried to call them, the phone was disconnected. Can anyone confirm or deny this? NOTE: Please, I am *not* trying to start any flames, I just want to know…
#146632 Quicken Clone, etc. Message #146663
Mike, (the programmer) told me that there was a batch of Tandberg 3600 tape drives that were refurbished and real flakey. He said that might be the problem (as it should work fine). He also said to try the demo version of AmiBack 2.0 first. I'll check to see if…

#146031 Amiga not dead! Message #146140
One of the guys from A.C.E. (Amiga Centres for Excellence) met with IDI folks today and confirmed basically the same thing. We were told that Philips offered a *lot* of money for CD32 and wanted to bury it. They were turned down and it was sold to someone else. Why…

From: Charles Hill Amiga Vendor Forum · MicroBotics May 15, 1994 10:20 AM
VLAB and Retina are handled by MacroSystems US, not Microbotics. MacroSystems has no support (official) on CompuServe (even though their manual says they do). -Chas

I think the problem was with bursting the A3000 ZIPs. I have since changed to non-burst and it all works fine — PAR, LW, etc. -Chas

Hardware: A3000/25 w/latest rev on all chips. 10 Mb on the motherboard; GVP 040/40 w/4 (later 8) megs; DPS PAR; NewTek VideoToaster 4000; OS 2.1. Originally, after bursting the RAM on the motherboard, trying to render in Lightwave to the PAR resulted in system lockups, screen display trashing and drive…
#145451 #Quicken Clone, etc. Message #145584
No, prices hasn't been set. It'll make a big difference if they do decide togo with only an "online" manual and no printed one. That is still up for debate. -Chas
#145439 #Quicken Clone, etc. Message #145583
ARexx is already there, that I know. I can pass on suggestions about multi- format imports (Quicken, Phasar, etc.) as well as multi-format outputs (Lotus, ProCalc, SuperPlan, etc.) -Chas
#145276 #Quicken Clone, etc. Message #145582
I will, though I must tell you. AmiBack and AmiBack Tools (and as a result AmiBack+Tools) have all just had their manuals converted to AmigaGuide format and placed on disk. We will be doing away with manuals for those products as well as possibly Tapeworm's. -Chas
#81722 #Ad in Amazing/Amiga Message #81764
From: Charles Hill Amiga Vendor Forum · MicroIllusions May 12, 1994 9:28 PM
I tried it and it seems to work fine, except when rendering to a DPS PAR. Then it freaks out but good. I changed some of the drive masks and unbursted the RAM and all works fine now. Heck, I guess I'll have to settle for only 2x speed in…
#Quicken Clone, etc. Message #145249
I have been given permission to disclose the following information to the general public: Intelligent Designs, Inc., the company that now handles AmiBack, AmiBack Tools, and Tapeworm FS are actively working on an Amiga "Quicken clone". Gary, I have an A3000, not an A4000. They are static column ZIPs and I was under the impression that the burst line *was* supported on the A3000. I also have a rev -11 Buster as well as the latest rev DMAC, Agnus, etc. Just checking (every little bit of…
#81627 Ad in Amazing/Amiga Message #81713

Hmmm…considering I have 16 megs of static column ZIPs that I can't use on the GVP board, there is plenty of reason to have motherboard RAM. Thanks, -Chas
#81632 #MetaScan & Retina Message #81712
Vic, I'll get you the details. It might be tough as the Retina screen is the one open when all this happens — and I haven't tried getting detailed info when it is displayed. On another note….I like the MetaScan. It multitasks *much* better than ASDG's scan package (which makes…

Ben, A progress report on MetaScan, IM, the Retina and my system. 1) I got MetaScan to work. First it refused to run when I activated the loader from IM R/t (by pressing the F4) key. After numerous failures I decided to "jump start" the module by opening two CLIs…
#81426 Prob with IM anim Message #81445
SOunds like each frame has a different pallette. This would both cause DPaint to choke and possibly glitch anims. Lock your palette by changing to "use existing palette" after loading frame #1. (There may be a better way. I don't know if IM can optimize palettes for an anim.) -Chas
#81381 #IM R/t 1.50? Message #81384
Aha! Thanks. I'll try scaling now. BTW, IM has the best #&$# 16-color hires dither I've ever seen. I can't believer I'm only looking at 16 colors on some of the images. Since I have an A3000, I must be. 🙂 -Chas

#142946 Attenion Believers! Message #142983
Umm….I hate to bring this up. Word is that a couple of months ago someone made that exact offer on QUicken, the business program. A *free* port to the Amiga all they had to do was license the name or take control when it was done. Intuit said no. I…

Want some good news? You all have probably heard that Creative Equipment International (CEI), the largest Amiga distributor (not the mail order joint in CA) is buying A4000s OEM from Commodore and putting GVP 040/40s and Warp Engines in them as fast A4000s. What you probably *didn't* know is that…

Mark, I also heard the same thing…except that the injunction is from a lawsuit filed by Prudential and has nothing to do with the GUI. CBM owes them many millions (in default since last June) and they are taking steps. Three of four major distributors are out of all Amigas…
From: Charles Hill Amiga User Forum · Hot News and Rumors April 20, 1994 12:31 AM
Correct me if I'm wrong….but with the 68060 being pin, bus and program code compatable with the 68040, what's wrong with getting a Warp Engine now (with a socketed crystal and socketed 68040) and swapping them out for a 50-MHz or 66-MHz crystal & 68060 later? According to everything I…
