Charles, I have heard about Forge!, have you actually tried it ? I wonder what the output looks like. As my own test I rendered some fairly complex scenes from a warehouse walthrough I have been working on. The scenes on the 040 33 Amiga took 32 minutes each, on…
Jim, Thanks for the reply. That is an incredible performance difference. Is the PC version of Imagine optimized for Pentium use or is the pentium really that far ahead of the 040 ? That is a shocking result. My concern with moving to the Pentium as my rendering platform, I'll…
#Imagine and Pentium 90
Message #85437
I am curious what speed increase can be realized by going to Imagine for the PC and the Pentium 90 ? How much faster would this setup be than my 040 33mhz Amiga ? How much faster is the Pentium 90 than the 486 dx50 ? How about the Pentium…
If GVP Tech responds to you via e-mail please post the solution. I just installed a G-Force 040 33mhz board in my A2000 and now I get those same types of errors. Unexpected status $40/$49 Device 002 – a syquest 44 meg, and also on device 003, a syquest 105……
James, Thanks anyway, but I figured out what his problem was. He failed to understand how to set the object to follow a path from the Action editor. I explained to him that he must delete the position bar and then add it again and select follow path. I think…
#Imagine question
Message #42035
Question: Has the method for making objects follow paths drastically changed from Imagine 2.0 ? I made some objects for a customer a year or two ago with Imagine 2.0, he has now gone to 3.0 and he is having big probllems in getting the objects to follow a path.…
I have noticed that your "by line" has changed… Does this indicate some new movement at commodore ? I hope I hope I hope…

From the lineup of titles that you mentioned I would find it very very hard to beleive that C= will not release this machine in the U.S., those kinds of developers are banking on big money, and to get it is going to require both sides of the pond. Interesting…
Jonathan, I think Mortal Kombat will more than make up for the lack of a street fighter 2. Just make sure they do it right! And get this machine to market before the Atari box comes out.

John, if you do decide to change the interface, and I hope you dont, please find a way to offer th original interface to users who prefer it. I think the interface is great and for those here in the office who must convert files from time to time it…
For the time being I am content to run the old 030 and wait for 3.0 to hit. I'm not working on anything right now that has a pressing deadline. I do have a big presentation scheduled for November but I should have plenty of time with the 030 to…
Mr. Roth ???? OUCH! That hurts… you trying to insult me or something ??? 🙂 As I aswered you in E-Mail, the reasons for needing OS/2 support are many, not the least of which is the access to all the lan server resources on the net. I am surprised that…
I think that Jonathan and I have the same problems with Imagine 2.0 and the 040 board. It doesn't seem to be related to the version of workbench, the 040 library, the setpatch version, the addmem version, or background software. I have tried many many hours of reconfiguration and testing…
Hi Mike, Indeed the CGW article was, for the most part, positive… BUT… it was filled with several errors and incorrect assumptions, like the statement that Amiga 24bit graphics boards tend to run in the $1,000 range for the cheap solution. Last time I checked retina boards could be had…

Yes… Won't it be refreshing when we can finally put dos and the old ghosts of the 8088 to bed….
Also remeber that the indy is more powerful than one of those high powered Pentium machines. Priced one of those lately ??? $4995 doen't seem so bad afterall! 🙂
I dunno Robert…. The 8 bit graphics do indeed seem a little thin, but I can see justification for this in the target market. If you are going to try and knock out Apple and high end pc clones in the desktop publishing area then 256 colors is about all…
If you know an SGI person that is lurking here tell them to speak up….. Soooo many questions and so little solid information!
#New Amiga from SGI!
Message #108689
Thats' true, the quadra will get slapped in the face, as will the high end pentium based machines. Side note: yesterday we received mail from SGI directly touting the Indy and inviting us to an open house to see the new machine (this in addition to our sales rep). Looking…

Hehehehehe…. And I had such faith in GVP!!! 🙂 Actually I have been wondering exactly where GVP is going ? A3000 development has stopped, right ? It seems that there just isn't any thing new coming out from Amiga developers, and many seem to be dropping out all together… Any…

Windoz is not an OS, it's a dos extender and a horrible kludge, so by it's very nature it is and will be a resource hog. I have to wonder why on Earth the 32bit os are so large, NT and OS/2 are just huge! And I like OS/2 and…

Even so, I think Amiga companies do a fantastic job of producing high end software that requires very little space. Compare Imagine to 3D Studio and you'll see what I mean, or Prowrite and Word…..

Indeed, rumor has it that the ASDG software is several times more capable than it's amiga couterpart… Any truth to this ?

You also forgot to mention that the Amigas OS is lacking direct network support, something that is really needed badly. Perhaps not for all amiga users but for those of us who try to use them in network environments it would be a blessing.

He hehehehheee….. You know what I mean! TCP/IP configuration through a graphical front end, which, for a Novell guy like me, is a blessing! 🙂
Tim, I just purchased the Amiga version of the product. For more info you can type GO AMIGAARTS and leave a message in the 3d rendering area. Real 3d has been available on the amiga for 3 or 4 years. There are about 10 people in the forum that use…

Ok…. Only one quick question for you… Is Imagine 3.0 for the pc going to be DPMI compliant or not ? It seems to me that with 3D Studio 3.0 being released soon and announced at Sigraph, and it's ability to run under windoz and OS/2 in virtual dos sessions,…
Please! No more J.P…. That darn movie is just too saturated! They need a killer title that'll sell machines, like Mortal Combat or Street Fighter 3, those are the kinds of carts/games that sell lots of units. Look how many SNES machines were sold just to get Street Fighter 2…
Surrogate sex program!!! I'll take two please! Seriously, as an electronics junkie if 3D0 delivers on it many promises I'll purchase one, and sit it right next to my cdtv… 🙂
The machine sounds grand, it is indeed generating the kind of excitement that the Amiga did when it first hit the scene. BTW: our SGI Iris guys tell me that our SGI dealer will be in the office next week to discuss some hardware upgrades for the Iris machines. I…
No kidding! I just renewed my subscription to Video magazine 3 months ago and yesterday I received a letter from them offering big savings if I renew for another two years! I don't plan that far in advance for anything….
Actually, if C= was smart and on their toes they would take advantage of a great weakness in Nintendo's product line right now. That being the Nintendo CD-ROM or rather lack thereof. It's a huge black eye that sega just keeps throwing in the face of Nintendo and it is…
Richard, try these out… LAN magazine – 1 year and 2 months before expiration Byte magazine 4 months Computer Graphics World – 5 months Guess it varies ?
Yep, there is a problem here… I wont buy 3.0 if it's not fixed. Guess I need to start spending some more time with my new lightwave toys….
They are supposed to be busy with version 3.0 of both the pc and Amiga versions… I hope that they correct several things with both versions!! The PC version has gotta have dpmi support, I should be able to run it under OS/2, which cannot be done now. This is…
Nice tools indeed… I was looking through some of the junk mail that comes across my desk and guess what I found…. A 24 bit board from Chryon called the "Centaur" board…. I got a good chuckle out of that, especially since it has the same logo as the Amiga…
AHAH!!!! I am not crazy or alone! I get the same exact error messages from Imagine 2.0, though at varying times during running the program! I also get the dreaded 8000 0004 error! I don't have the A4000 030, but rather an A2000 with a zeus 040 33 mhz. I…
Dale, this CD32 machine sure does sound good… but the who the heck are they (CBM) gonna get to write software for it ? The computer game makers are slumping in pc sales, and how many cart based game companies are willing to jump from the lucrative sega and Nintendo…
Well John, I thought that I would be able to report to you how the translation of the 13 meg file went… No dice! I have plenty of memory in the Amiga, A2000 with Zeus 040 and 64 megs of 32 bit mem and 6 megs 16 bit, I don't…
#PP&S still around?
Message #106980
Progressive is still around and seems to be doing just fine. I was in contact with their technical support department last week. They didn't solve my problem but at least they were willing to try.
Recruit away! 🙂 Actually ICP is gonna get one heck of a workout tonight. We have a Chrysler Viper model that was done on several software packages including wavefront and softimage and somehow was converted to a .3ds file… It's HUGE to say the least and has more groupings that…
Is your board compatible with Oxxi's Novell client software ? I need to get a few amigas networked and despite what i have heard about enlan and parnet, I need the functionality and connectivity that our netware servers provide. Besides, we are upgrading to netware 4.0 and with the servers…
You know…. I hate to say it but if that 4000 doesn't get here soon I may just get rid of this whole system!!! I've got a new PAR board that I haven't done a thing with yet, since I don't have the drive, and a new toaster that I…
I missed your original post, how much for the 3000T ???
Hi John, I didn't get a chance to thank you for helping me out of that jam with the program and the 3d studio module. I was able to get most of my work done, although I could not render the animations since I keep getting crazy error messages, either…
I gotta agree with you on that! ICP + is ten times better than pixel 3d pro at conversions. I have to thank John for getting me a copy of it in one day! Saturday delivery no less! Too bad I can't do anything with the great models it creates….…
