So far as a Non-Pro Toaster/LW user/addict I'm glad I haven't jumped to an NT WS or bow to Newteks attempts at extortion (ducking:^) when in comes to LW upgrades. I'd sure like an 060 though. I've gotten over the intense want of a DEC Workstaion of my own. My…
John, As far as I know PhotoShop won't recognize Toaster Framestore format images, but it will read/write Amiga IFF24 if you got the plug-in. Theres also some new s/w available for the Amiga that can handle PS file formats. That may be the way to go. ….John

Wanted: Warp Engine 040
Message #215872
I'm Looking for a Warp Engine 040 for an A3000. Please let me know if anyones looking to part with one….. ….John
Bryan, I use LW 3.5 with VLab-M and have had Great results. I've been rendering 640×240 square pixels and loading these as fields after conversion to JPEG with ProControl/ADPro. You could do some pretty cool 3D logo stuff very easy with the right plug-ins for LW. ….John

Jerry, There was a s/w package available called Transporter that would probably do what you want. But these days that seems kinda hard on a VTR. Perhaps you could find someone to grad Flyer clips for you? Sounds like you already have the h/w to do the job. I have…
Dirk, Avideo signal must be sent through a TBC before it can be used by the Toasters inputs. I let the TBC do the SVHS/CVBS conversion go through Toaster then to VLab-M :^) Comes out decent. A substantial difference can be seen whn going through non-stock I/O boards for the…
Dirk, Aren't there a few features that can only be used if your running OS 3.0+ ? I'm currently running on WB 2.1 :^( Soon I'll be U/Ging…….. ….John
Dirk, Stock Toasters are CVBS only :^( But its Good CVBS :^) There are S-Video I/O boards for the Toaster but its still Composite through the Toaster. I do Psuedo A/B roll effects with only one source deck and use Movieshop to splice the segments together. You know what I…
Dirk, The way I'm running my Toaster/Vlab-M Systems now won't really do much better than good VHS quality video anyways. Vlab-Ms in an A3000/040 using native SCSI. I'm not a Pro so broadcast quality doesn't much matter to me yet. Its taken years too put together and learn how to…
Chris, Actually you could start with a conventional AB roll controler system for the input and control of the Toaster and just let the Program out go to the Vlab-M. This could cause generation loss before even going digital. :^( The way I've done effcts live with the Toaster are…
Bryan, The Vlab-Ms s/w Movieshop is starting to progress in ways that will only work on WB 3.xx systems I think. Of coarse theres work arounds for early OS revs. I'd say go for it, may be as good a time as any. :^) Later, ….John
Chris, I think you may be miss understanding the connection of Video Toaster and Vlab-M. I use both together and perhaps I can clear some things up. The Vlab-M is a single video channel Digital Video Recorder. Its just like a video deck but digital. Video is saved to HDs,…
Dirk, Do you live in Germany or somewhere in Europe? I'm also very happy with my VLab-M sys :^) The GUI took a while to get the hang of but now its become pretty natural for me. I'm not a Pro, just a hobbiest. I have had a resurgence of…
Carl, DigiPaint was one of the early Amiga paint s/w your thinking about I think. It did some very fine texture mapping onto a sphere. Not sure if IM R/t or ADPro can do the job now??? Good question… I'd just use LW or some other 3D package to do…
Ben, Its Great to hear there will be future revs of IM/rt for the Amiga. Of coarse the V10 project sounds really cool also. I had IM running with a FC24 and it was quite nice and speedy, since, I have hooked my A3000 to a 1960 monitor and unfortunately…

Pat, I guess your spare Toaster is of the T4000 variety? Otherwise it won't work in a A4000 :^( ….John
Thanks Dale, I'll be calling to get the full MovieShop 2.6 release soon :^) I've been wanting to start a thread here to get some help with the audio settings with MS. I've been using a Gamma vers. for a while (MS 2.5G11) under WB 2.04 :^( The online help…
John, BTW, Siggraph was VERY cool thanks to the complementary ticket I got from you :^) Thanks very much. Lots of SGI Onyx lurking behind drapes and around corners. I wonder if those super computers had anything to do with the killer demos??? :^) The show was quite overwhelming even…
Be sure to tell all the PC/Mac guys that your running the 'latest new improved Cool Amiga s/w'. I think X'ers might go for Amigas if their marketed right :^) Sure alot of them drooling over SGI at Sigraph. ….John
I failed to u/g in the time NewTek gave me. I got plenty of render power if I need it right now (4 040 Amigas). For many of us this LW addiction is just a hobby and learning experience. So I haven't had to fold to NT or another platform.…
I talked to a girl at NT today (8/14/95) and she said I could order the s/w by tommorow and wait on delivery til the complete LW 4.0 vers I want ships to decide on the platform. What a deal??? ….John
Hal, As long as you give the Mac guys images with square pixels you shouldn't have any problems. They can take it from there. I've lately been transfering files via PC floppy after JPEGing to about 10to1 then using PS to go from there. Works great for LW Print Res…
As a print graphics Pro I definately prefer thinking in pixels, and those pixels are square. I print stuff between res 12 and res 60 every day. Res 12 = 300 DPI IRIS prints. Res 60= about 1500 DPI, the maximum for our film recorder. We occasionally do 11×14 trans…
I heard the MS/DEC deal involved s/w from DEC that allows Alphas to run as WinNT Servers to Intel networks. Could still be the beginning of a buyout:^) ….John
Hal, LW is a Great 2D/3D image processing and DVE (Digital Video Effects) engine. Lots of commercial s/w has been written to take advantage of LWs image rendering abilities. Sounds like you pretty much got it, I guess your not an animator YET. Once you get a taste you may…
Hal, If your client can handle Targa files you can use LW to render out the framestores as an image sequence. Load the files into LW as an image sequence then render out as Background sequence with square pixels to what ever res you like. Transfer files via CrosDos PC…
Steve, Hope your rendering to Anim7 or the likes if your displaying on a AGA machine. Then LoRes DCTV stuff Really cooks. Pretty easy to get 30 FPS realtime stuff from Ram, If you got it. Later, ….John
Hey Peter, Yesterday I finally hit the Web for the first time. Your not the only one having problems with AMosaic 1.4. Went through the same thing just trying to get things going. I did figure it out though. How about answering a few questions ??? Please ??? Where do…
Bryan, I also have a Vlab-M sys, Its an A3000/040 25mhz, 16meg Ram, Vlab-M/Toccata, 2Gig+ HD etc. etc. I put it together from about half used and half new stuff for about $4k. I can get about half hour plus of pretty good quality relatively hi res video. We're talking…

Byte articles on 3D
Message #47317
Thanks for the tip. I'll definately be heading to my local news stand and get Byte. Later, ….John
Terry, I just found this Forum recently and find it a breath of fresh air. I'll be adding another platform to my studio soon and Love all the multi platform input here. I'm a life long Amiga user (O.K. 10 years :^), Things are a little different over in the…
Rick, You may want to check out Caligari/TrueSpace on the PC. I used it on the Amiga before LW and it worked alot the same way. Realtime 3D perspective of scene preview. I've never like 3D s/w that forces you to work in 3 screens (Top,Side,Front). Being able to view…
Don't feel too bad, we're getting used to the likes of PC users :^) What to you think about the demo vers of Real3D ? Hows the performance on the PC your using? I've messed with it on my Amiga but haven't quite made it over the learning curve yet.…
Will the distibuted rendering features of LW 4.0 work without a ScreamerNet like product? Or will there be a site licence? ….John
I was thinking the same thing about needing ScreamerNet to do distributive rendring with LW 4.x . I hope not but I'm thinking pretty serious about a Teraclipse and thats a farm in one box :^) And I may get a chance to beta test PhotoShop for the Alpha. I…

Wanted: AmigaDos/Workbench 2.1 u/g kit I got the 2.0 ROM, all I need is s/w, I'll pay $20 Thanks, ….John
Henry, Whats your price for LW 3.5 SA ? And is the u/g to PC LW 4.0 still available ? Thanks, ….John
All Escoms got to do is licence the Amiga Tecnology out to other vendors and they should do quite well from the start. Amiga clones are being developed NOW. And from what I hear my current VLAB-M will get quite a kick in the butt from one of these 060…
Andre, I've worked with a Pantone book that gives you the RGB equivelents #s. Depending on your application (Print, Trans, Video) you should always choose your color space at the start and stick with it. Avoid CMYKRGB transformations like the plague :^) Just a friendly tip. And NEVER trust your…
Tad, 1) Get a good PMS swatche book and it should give you the RGB equivelent #s to start with. Good Luck…… 2) LW 4.0 is supposd to render to 16/9 aspect ratio and others for movie stuff :^) Perhaps you can do the same with LW 3.5 by just…
David, This sounds pretty cool, keep us informed on price and availability. ….John
Michael, The Emplant comes with a Proven Mac Rom images on floppy that should make instalation pretty easy. I never used the h/w, I got it through a deal on a buddies A4000 and it worked fine before I pulled it. If you really want a simple install I can…

Chris, Sounds like you got the right idea. There is a TAR utility here for the Amiga, I found it in AmigaTech/Programmer Utilities as TAR.lzh. An Ethernet connection may be easier for the short run but you'll still need to backup the files. Good luck and let us know how…
I've always thought DCTV was one of the finest h/w devices developed for the Amiga, and DC missed its calling. I remmember hearing alot of Vapor about s/w u/gs but they never appeared :^( Good luck with Trinity. ….John
Please don't tease us Amiga Toaster heads. Whens a projected ship date for Trinity? It took a couple years to go from DigiView to Toaster on the Amiga. Good Luck, ….John
Dale, I'm just starting with this Networking stuff, so far all I have are the device drivers for the 2065 and 4066. Is Envoy PD or is it a commercial program? I'd like to get this going as cheap as possible for now. Thanks for the help, ….John
