Hi John, Of course its possible to upgrade your A500. There are boards with 68020 and 68030 CPU's, and 68882-50 (!) copro's. On those boards you also can put PS/2 RAM's. These boards are (in Austria or Germany) about 140 – 200$. A new kickstart is about 70 $, OS…

>My A4000 does that, too. I just reboot several times until it "catches." >:-) Hmmmm, not a very elegant solution!! Actually you are right, it isn't a big deal, but it is to my wife who doesn't like to see something she doesn't understand on the screen, so she makes…
No elegant solution but it works: insert a line wait 1 at the top of your user-startup. This causes the system to wait a second. If that isn't enough you have to try with wait 2 and so on. cu Ernst >=====on AutoPilot_1.80 [what else?] for AMIGA—–> from Europe/Austria/Vienna
My A4000 does that, too. I just reboot several times until it "catches." 🙂
I believe ASDG (now Elastic Reality) once made a GPIB board for the Amiga. You might try them at (608) 273-6585 to see if they might still have some in stock.
Trakball From Amiga to P
Message #48570
I am attempting to use a Microspeed Trakball that I used on my Amiga on my PC. It has the same 9 pin female plug and plugs in fine but doesn't work. What do I need to do to get it working? Someone has said there needs to be some…
Thanks again, Betty. You're a life-saver…
Look in AmigaUser, Library 14 = Archivers, for LHA138.RUN. This is self-dissolving. Put it in RAM:, CD to ram: and type LHA138.RUN. It will unpack itself into RAM:. copy LHA to your c: directory, and put the docs on a floppy or something. —Betty

Rolf, Can I just ask why do you want to connect a PC keyboard to a 4000? I've got a couple of spare 4000 keyboards if that's the problem Regards, Stuart Studio Digital Media
William, I see Asha has relied for me with who to contact. I would dig out my install instructions but there have been a few different models of the Mega Chip and their installations may vary slightly. I wouldn't want to give you the wrong advice. I am sure Dean…

"Pls. insert floppy"
Message #48464
On bootup my A3K asks for a floppy to be inserted in the disk drive. I've seen this discussed before, and the answer seems to be to change a setting that will slow the boot sequence down enough to allow time for the harddrive to spin up. Would someone please…
William, You might want to try Dean Brown (DKB Software) (71333,453). Asha Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot

Be sure to complain to FEEDBACK when you have problems with your node. That's the only way to get them fixed. —Betty
I think you are right about me calling a busy node. I never had this problem before CoompuServe's price drop. I'm going to try calling a different node and see what happens. Thanks for the help.-Sandra Haggard
Thanks for answering my call for help. I checked the node. I'm on the right one. Betty seems to think I'm calling a very busy node. She might be right. Because I get alot of BUSY messages. I think I'm going to try a different node to see if I…
Sandra, Some places have different node numbers for different speeds. Are you sure you're using the correct node? Try typing GO PHONES if you're in doubt. Asha Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot
I have heard there were internal expansions for the 500 greater than 1meg but they were not simple plug in jobs like the 1meg board. You had to attach extra wires from the board to the Amiga motherboard. You might find it hard to get expansion boards for the 500…
Sandra, your settings are correct. I don't know why you would be getting such slow download times. It is possible that you are calling at a time when the lines are very busy and that would slow things up. Is it possible for you to call at times other than…
Gary, Ok…you've downloaded the file, which is called Somethingorother.lha, right? Then what did you do? From DirOPus you can (depending on the version you're using) click and click (click on the LHA file and then click on the destination) or drag and drop and it should unpack the file for…

GPIB Scanner Interface?
Message #48363
I am looking for a GPIB interface to connect my Sharp scanner to my Amiga using Pofessional Scanlab.. Does anyone know where I can get one? Alternatively is there an Amiga user out there who knows of an alternative means of connecting to this scanner? Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers.…
Gary, From your description, I believe you were successful in downloading LHA138.RUN, and also in unpacking it. And then you copied LHA to your c: directory successfully. Is that right? I'm not a Dopus user, but if you got the file copied to C: it should matter what method you…

Im having a problem getting LHA138.RUN to work. I've downloaded the file into RAM,extracted it, loaded just the LHA file into my 'C' directory with directory Opus. I then tried to download any LHA type of file, such as a 3D object for Lightwave. It doesn't work. What am I…

Mark, Welcome. Re the Amiga 500: If you can update it to a more recent operating system (currently, 3.1), he will have a far more stable and capable machine. And he will then be able to use AutoPilot, the Amiga navigator for Compuserve. It requires at least OS2.04, at least…

Got a problem. Suddenly my old reliable Amiga 2000 has begun to crash after about 45 minutes on very hot days and some not-so-hot days, yielding a "Software Error" message. Recently, I have been making modifications to it, but everything has been working very well. In order to facilitate the…
