Really AMIGA

The question about how many Amigas have sold in a period and how many pieces of software have been written for it in that same period is specious. Back when the PET and the APPLE II came out there was a MUCH smaller audience making the total numbers possible to…

Message #4120
I've been playing around with DBW render. First thing you MUST do is set your stack to at least 10000 using the CLI "STACK 10000" command. I personally tend to use 50000. I'm not certain what you mean with processing Deluxe Paint through Ray. Ray produces a .TMP output file.…
I don't think there *is* a bad sector map. Your best bet is to copy the bad disk to a newly formatted disk. Then you might attempt to reformat the original disk, but in my experience, once a disk starts showing errors, it's pretty much a goner. Perhaps the new…

I was wondering if you guys knew of a program that lets you add new bad spots to the bad sector map after youve done all the formatting etc. My machine has two such spots that cause the machine to reseak for a looong time than give me a retry…
Hi, Joji, We do wish with all our hearts that you could see the Amiga 3000, but alas, to the best of my knowledge it is still a fond dream in the hearts of Commodore engineers. You might see some of the newer Commodore hardware, but not necessarily. What you…

Hi, Betty, Thank you for your information. It is very helpful to me. Can I see the Amiga 3000 at this Expo? My schedule is finalized as below. Oct.1 (Sat) leave Narita for Seattle 2 (Sun) leave Seattle for S.F. 6 (Thu) leave S.F. for L.A. stay at Westin Hotel!…
I am really glad to hear that you have so much experience with Forth. I can understnad how the lack of standard IO made you turn away from Forth to C. Forth is still in its infancy and the standards are not YET there. I hope to change that. That…

#Forth vs C
Message #3718
Thanks… I really do like MultiForth. I wish the Forth community could agree to some standardized extensions (like the MultiForth locals, quans, I/O etc…). Software companies are reluctant to use Forth and be dependent upon a single vendor. By the way, the Macintosh version of MultiForth does have structs. I…

Forth enhancements?
Message #3540
What the game basically is, is this: The player writes a computer program to control a "robot" ship. There will be the aforementioned assembly language, a C compiler, and a BASIC compiler to start with in which the programmer may work. The program is compiled. The output is loaded, along…
I've looked at both. But I must admit… I cheated. Jim Kent had uploaded a C module which did a nice, quick job of reading IFF modules, and I just appropriated it… For writing the IFF file, I'll probably do something similar, although I'm probably gonna have to make changes……

Please stay in touch, Joji. We'd love to have you visit our clubs, and to have the chance to meet you. I belong to two clubs, meetings on 2nd Tuesday, 3rd Thursday, 3rd Saturday (in October.) And a special show on Oct. 29. Look forward to seeing you here.

Oh, yes, Joji, One of the clubs here has made a videotape showing its activities for the past year. I could put you in touch with the member who did that, and perhaps you could do some tape exchanges. Also, clubs in Austin and Houston Texas have videotape libraries that…

Hello Betty and Bob, Thank you for you quick reply. O.K…. I will go to the L.A. around the second week of October. Can I meet you at AmiExpo? BTW, our Commodore Fan Club wants to talk to Amiga users all over the world. We are making Digi-View slide disk…
The next AmiExpo is scheduled for Oct 7-9, in Los Angeles (according to the mailing I just received).
There will be the next AmiEXPO in early October. I can't find my brochure, but I believe the date was Oct. 8 and 9. I think it was in New York City, though. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Steven, I see what you mean about the connector now. Since my expansion IS underneath, it isn't a problem. As for the genlock and digitizer, I haven't had time to play with them as much as I'd like, but neither has required extra power yet. But your comments make me…
Steve, Welcome to the world of Amiga. I also have an A500 and would like to get a good deal on a hard disk. Unfortunately, at the moment it's like searching for the lost chord! I'll be watching this thread (along with many others) to see what anybody else comes…

The 500's slot is very low down, making it difficult to produce a sturdy base for a connection. With some peripherals I've seen for the 500, which stick up higher than the top of the computer, it would be very easy to put a bit of pressure in the wrong…

poll
Message #2207
Until CIS implements a polling feature of some sort, this isn't practical.
Barry, CIS is a packet-switched network, and protocols such as Xmodem do not behave well over them. I suggest downloading one of the terminals here that have either B or QB implemented. QB is _remarkably_ faster than Xmodem, and very well behaved on packet nets. Also, your node may only…

I just bought a new modem. The Supra 2400. It's like lightning compared to my old 300 baud acoustic coupled monster. I have had a couple of problems though. I logged onto a local BBS and downloaded a file at 2400 using Xmodem on a VT 100 emulator. I was…
Steven, I agree that the 2000 is the best solution, but how is the 500's expansion slot difficult to access? I had no trouble accessing it. And yes, you must either buy a replacement power supply, or use the power supplies that come with the peripherals. (The genlocks and digitizers…

# USED 1000 OR NEW 500?
Message #2165
I think I was quite correct. The 500's expansion slot is difficult to access, and supplies virtually no power whatsoever. Chaining peripherals is very tricky both power-wise and timing wise. (Each and every thing hung onto that slot really needs it's own power supply and buffering…) The 1000, on the…

Message #1841
I second the recomnedation for the Supra 2400. If your CIS node can support 2400 baud it's a real money saver. Mine has already paid for itself in reduced CIS charges. One of our local BBS's has 2 of them plus a hayes 1200 online and they work fine there…

In every modem discussion I've known about for several months, the Supra 2400 has won, hands down. I've been using one since March, and find it to be excellent. Almost completely Hayes compatible (one command different, I believe), and what's more, Supra gives excellent service if you have trouble. One…
