VR Upgrade
Message #4375
Nick, Any time frame on the VR Update / Upgrade? Also, I know you're pretty busy, but could you confirm my registration? Steve Earl InteSys Technologies, Inc. Gilbert, AZ 85234
Due to compiler issues we were not able to access the 16-bit AVI DLLs under NT. We recently solved that problem but it won't show up until the next major product release, probably early summer. Thus, you won't be able to generate or play back animations when using Simply 3D…
>>Any time I try to use the Animation player(or try to run the CD Demo for that matter) on the new machine, I have to do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the blue Windows screen, then select continue (by hitting enter rather than another C-A-D) to be able to see…

Ewan, Remove the DCSHKEY.EXE from the load= line in win.ini…just erase it…Sound is controlled from the InControl icon and group in Control panel and this disables it. Set sound volume from your Mixer if it's a SB16 card. Change load=DCSHKEY.EXE…ETC to load=etc. Bruce Herzog Forum Staff NY 16-Feb-95 at 7:33a…
Ewan, PMJI. A few things I remember about your problem (hopefully correctly ), is check to see if the volume is adjusted correctly in the Diamond driver (if there is this feature). The other thing to try is erase the DCSHKEY.EXE statement from the load= line in Win.ini (backup this…

Based on a suggestion you made to another user, I downloaded the 1.30Z drivers for my Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM board. When I run the demo CD now, I see the animation (hurrah). Unfortunately, it also blows my sound out of the water, so I don't hear the narration, or…

Hello Nick, I've been reading all of the good things you and others at VisSoft are doing for your customers. I am now happy to include myself in that group with the purchase of S3D. I would like to express my amazement as to the speed and quality of the…

Having had a chance to play with VR last night (finally received and installed it), I noticed that any time I try to use the Animation player (or try to run the CD Demo for that matter) on the new machine, I have to do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up…
Dear Dr. Cheung: Visual Software has several CD libraries of clipart objects, and is producing additional volumes every month. The Architectural and Business ClipART libraries each sell for $39. My salesperson insists that I tell you that if you upgrade from Simply 3D to Visual Reality for the special price…
>>When I apply a solid-color material and select smoothing for the object, the object renders smoothly, as expected. However, when I try to apply a marble-like material from the Textures and Materials CD, the facets become visible
Nick, maybe I can help a bit. All WWW Browsers that I am aware of support the GIF format for image display (among others, but .GIF seems to be the mose popular). Of course, Simply-3D supports .GIF for the final rendering, so I would say Simply-3D is an excellent tool…

Hi, I have recently purchased Simply 3D (CD-ROM version) for Windows, and have also registered for the product. I am very impressed by the power of this program and I have enjoyed using it very much. Unfortunately, I do not have Corel Draw or other graphics packages that can export…
#Materials and smoothing
Message #4287
I have imported an object in the shape of a tapered drinking cup into Renderize Live. The object was created by a sweep operation and has 36 facets. When I apply a solid-color material and select smoothing for the object, the object renders smoothly, as expected. However, when I try…

No Luck, didn't change a thing. It must be in the card or it's drivers.

Forgive me for being somewhat new in this forum, but I started using simply-3D in the hopes of incorporating 3-D rendered images into a design for a html home page. Can these images be viewed under WWW browsers such as Mosaic or Netscape? BTW, after only having the product for…
Bruce, Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try… Chris
Dave, I, too, have hacked the install to Windows NT 3.5. The best way to do this is to copy the complete file structure to a temp directory on the hard disk, modify the setup.inf to not look for NT, and and then run the setup command. This worked great…

Hmm, that may be a bit more than I'd "like" to spend, I was really hoping to be able to use my current drawing package – I may have to try S3D and see if it can do what I need. Thanks for your help. db
Nick, seeing as a switch to the NT version "should" speed things up a bit running under Win32-s, could you please mark my update request to receive the NT version? Thanks in advance. If I should call and talk to someone else, just let me know. Regards, – Jeremy Kumin,…

Jinny: Look at the words from the orthographic (top, front and side) views to discern if it is a lens setting issue. If it is due to lens settings, zooming the lens and moving it away from the object will reduce the effect. Nick Josephs Visual Software
Jeremy: The safest thing to do is to install our stuff, then re-install the codecs that come with the video card. Not efficient, but certain. Nick Josephs Visual Software

S3D Lettering
Message #4169
I have a problem with my words curving at the ends. From reading, I think it's partly from the lens setting of the camera, but it could also be from the settings. I'm thinking perhaps it COULD be the depth setting. Anyone have any help to clear this up for…
Well thanks very much! I am going to call next week and order it then. Bob Kolosky Phase3 Software http://www.pacrain.com/~phase3/phase3.html
Just thought you might like to know, if you have S3D, you can upgrade to VR for $149 directly from Visual at 800.881.4108.

Just to let y'all know, I've ordered the Visual Reality package, and can hardly wait for it to get here on Tuesday. I've really enjoyed the support here, and look forward to producing some quality work. Now, does anyone have a back porch scene (with a two-person swing) I can…
Nick, can one selectively choose whether or not to install the .AVI stuff? I have to use the ATI CODECS anyhow.
Nick, >>So maybe this problem isn't related to AI importation, and more to a broader display issue. Have you tried loading and viewing 3D objects from the tutorials? Do they appear correct?
>> I've taken our company logo as a .CDR file and saved it as a 2d AI file as curves (AI Version 1.1).

Simply 3D does not have drawing capabilities. You'd have to upgrade to Visual Reality, which includes a complete 3D modeler. Nick Josephs Visual Software

Thanks, I'll probably try it out – it looks like it might do what I want, as most of the stuff is simple – can S3d add holes, etc, if i import a basic shape? IOW, does S3D have some drawing capabilities built in? TIA db

It's tough for a program to take 2D drawings and turn them into 3D drawings. Your brain can do it, but programs don't have brains. If you're content with a simple 3D extrusion of your 2D drawings, sure, that's easy.
My company makes InterChange, a program that translates between more than twenty 3D file formats. We've been trying to get the documentation for the .GED file format from Visual Software. Most recently, Nick has been helping us in this regard. If GED was documented, we could add a GED converter…
