Tom: >Can anyone help me set up Word 5.0 to do a side by side A/V Script format?< Don't know Word 5 offhand, but it occurs to me that Word/Mac has a "column" option on the toolbar. Try clicking on that and set it up for 2 columns, and if…

Hi, Can anyone help me set up Word 5.0 to do a side by side A/V Script format? Thanks! TP
Nels, Thanks once again for the help!
Brian, The default extension for a QuickTime movie playable under Windows is ".MOV". Movies so named will be seen by the basic player app that comes with QTW as playable QTW movies, and it is also a good way of marking them as being "flattened" — having their data forks…
Nels, Thanks for the tips. I got that copy of DV magazine you mentioned. I can save a movie as a Quicktime for Windows movie, but I dont know which three letter ext. to give it.
Brian, For conversion between AVI and MOV you could get a copy of the book "How to Digitize Video" which has a CD attached containing a Windows app called TRMOOV.EXE. This app converts in either direction as long as the source and target codecs are the same (such as Cinepak…
#Converting to AVI
Message #5068
Hello All! I just invested several thousand bucks into a power mac and guess what. I need to convert Quick time to AVI. Is there any good software out there? Please E-mail or post for all.
Steve Giberson In reply to your sync issue with VVS and AP. Before I even get into what might be the problem – update your machine to Premiere 4.01T, QT 2.0 and VVS software 2.02. If you are having problems after this, drop me a line and I'll give you…
Media 100 now utilizes a media 100/Quicktime codec. So your media100 files are not QT files, but can be access by QT applications via the codec bypassing a true file export. so you can take your footage and fairly seamlessly work with it in Premiere, CoSa Etc. The import/export time…
Daniel, Any help would be appreciated. 🙂 What I'm having trouble with is the audio/video synch. It's noticeable after 2-3 minutes, and gets downright bad-kung-foo-movieish in about the five minute range. So far I'm still using Premiere 4.0 (awaiting 4.0.1), QT 1.6.2, and QT PowerPlug 1.0…also system 7.5. Hardware goes…

John; I would love to hear more about the improvements Media 100 has have made with their new v2.0 system. Is the Media 100 now truly QT2.0 native or do they still use an import/export type of solution – what most companies call Quicktime Compatible. danman

Guy; I would love to help you with your problem, but I seemed to have jumped into this thread – regarding your sync problem – in the middle. Since most of the folks from Radius hang out at AOL, I thought I'd start a little support here on CIS. If…
John, >>The Telecast unit will have hardware locked audio/video and 16bit audio. No sync problems. The upgrade will cost you.>Its likely that sometime afterward the improved studioplayer will be available.>Having said that, I have seen many state they were able to A/V sync for 10min with highly tuned setups. However,…
Steve- The Radius folks should probably answer this, but since I'm on I'll try. [Please no flaming-I'm just trying to help] I've followed this issue for a long time because of my need to produce long projects. This is an area that VVS has problems. (also 16bit audio on PPC…

H.320 Standard for MAC
Message #3150
Sysop: Does anyone make a video conferenceing system (hw/sw) for the Mac that can interface with a Windows based system from PictureTel called the PCS100. The PCS100 is H.320 compatible, so any MAC system using H.320 and ISDN theoretically could do this. PictureTel is working on this. I seem to…

"I also have heard rumors that ImMIX will come out with an add-on 3-D DVE effects unit (similar to Alladin) in the future." I don't see it as an add on, more of an upgrade. It would make more sense to change the video effects processor card (one of the…

Eric, Avid reports that they will interface with Aladin for true 3D DVE effects. -Mitch Hill/Hill Creative Services
John: Theoretically, yes. ImMIX is a Unix-based computer, from what I understand. I also have heard rumors that ImMIX will come out with an add-on 3-D DVE effects unit (similar to Alladin) in the future. Probably a SCSI interface as well. Eric Temple
That is interesting, Eric. So if someone wanted to and InMIX would release the spec, they could write an Amiga based front end, or IBM Compatible, Unix, NT, etal.? I have been wondering if anyone was going to do this with the Pinnacle Alladin, which is also _just_ a SCSI…

John: The ImMIX VideoCube uses the SCSI chain to interface with the Mac that controls it. The additional storage modules (hard drives) and archiving tape devices are also in the SCSI chain. Right now, there is no way to hook up an independent device to the best of my knowledge.…

Message #1593
Howdy, gang. I'm lucky enough to have some budget to play with here at work, and I've got an 8100/VideoVision/Premiere setup on order. What I could use a little help with is in recommendations for an NTSC monitor. At MacWorld yesterday, most exhibitors who were showing off Premiere were using…
Maybe from your perspective there are more people using PCs to do video. Avid and Media Composer, two of the best selling Digital Video edit stations are Mac based. And I believe VideoVision outsells all other video capture boards. I suspect most people who now use their PCs for digital…
There seems to be more people who us PCs for video capture, editing, etc… but if you ask any serious user they will tell you the Mac is the best. Why don't you see more people using Mac? Is it because of the price?
There is a two to five minute limit becuase of the lack of adequate compression. The AV does not come with any edit software, such as Adobe Premiere. I have a PowerMac 8100 with 72MB of RAM, a 1GB internal drive and a 3GB external. I use a Radius VideoVision…
Why only 2-5 minute pieces? Is that just because of disk space? What software comes with the AV model, is it Adobe? What type of system do you have? Thanks for your help! Tim
The AV model is capable of Video and Audio capture. It does not use as good of a compression routine as the Radius VideoVision Studio board. If all you are doing is 2 to 5 minute pieces, the AV would probably work. -Bob
Tim, While I am not familiar with that particular equipment, I would have to say that for $200 youu could hardly go wrong. Worst case you will be able to learn what you do want out of a real video production system. -John

I recently received a catelog in the mail called MacMall. In it they have a Power Mac 8100/80 AV. It states that the AV version comes with video capture and the ability to record video out to video tape. The AV version is only about $200 more than the Mac…
Premiere/VVS Rates II
Message #1269

Sorry no hands on but there is a good review in the new edition of New Media magazine. Check it out. Bill Napper
We use a Sledge with Premiere 4.0 and VVS 2.0. I get around 3.7 to 4.0 MBs on average for a 640×480 picture. By the way, we experienced that if you digitize at 640 x480 with the VVS card you will get a small black stripe down the right side…
I have been having the same problem with capture rates stating 1.6 megs/s for my sledgehammer fast and wide 4.1 drive. The news I have heard is that full motion, full frame video requires at least 4 megs/s, which should be possible with the array. The strange thing I notice…

Hi, does anybody have experience with the SpigotPower Av (especially on PowerMacs 7100/66 AV, System 7.5)? Ed
Jamie, I am not all that familiar with that particular model, but I believe what you will find is that it has a video in/out as well as audio in/out and an editing package, something like Adobe Premiere. This can be a neat, fun, and informative combination, by the way…

>>QuickTime data rates (what you see in the Premiere quality settings) don't reflect raw drive transfer rates (say, using FWB's utilities) much at all.
Hi Mark, Videomedia offers the OZ editing system for Macintosh. V-LAN hardware is used to connect the Mac with the video devices. The Hardware is also compatible with other software applications including Adobe Premiere, Topas, Macromedia and MacAnimatorPro. The V-LAN hardware for Macintosh is external and does not use any…
Ah, this question 🙂 QuickTime data rates (what you see in the Premiere quality settings) don't reflect raw drive transfer rates (say, using FWB's utilities) much at all. Those raw rates are for uncompressed data, which the hardware can compress as it's transferring to yield really impressive numbers. The video…
>>Typical numbers that I have seen from professional non-linear products range from 3MB/s to 8MB/s. It sounds like you are getting a decent quality for that low a rate
Craig, Ok. Typical numbers that I have seen from professional non-linear products range from 3MB/s to 8MB/s. It sounds like you are getting a decent quality for that low a rate, however, I will be interested in hearing your conclusions after Friday. Good Luck! -John
>>I thought I might say that the 1.7MB/sec rate does sound kind of low to me too. I am not familiar with HDT, when it says a 7.1 rating, is that saying that your drive should be able to do 7.1MB/sec, or is that just a scalar measurement?
Hi Craig, I haven't used the Radius Video Vision Studiio 2.0 system you have so I can't help you with your comparison numbers, but I thought I might say that the 1.7MB/sec rate does sound kind of low to me too. I am not familiar with HDT, when it says…
