You can do a *save as* in photoshop and drop down from 24 bit to *indexed colour* which is 8 bit just saves having yet another plate of spaggetti…
NO WAY! I was at it all day today!
>> I _believe_ I covered the differences between the two. Someone else who upgraded from LT to 3.0 hopefully will jump in and correct me if there's more.
No.. Not by a long shot!
John — >>Most 3D people I've met have used more than one tool.

Sam, You should be be able to select all (shift-a) and scale the scene down within the stage editor. By all, that includes the camera and lights. This will keep all relative positions intact. Of course, you must update the SIZE bar for the objects for it to take effect.…

#Animation Program
Message #12803
Hello All, I am trying to put together a Video studio and would like some advice on animation packages. I had originally planned to go with the Toaster/Flyer/lightwave combination, with a Raptor 3 workstation. It appears that there is a lot of trouble with the Flyer/Toaster combo, so am now…
Hey, you've given me new inspiration! For our trueSpace CD, I'd like to request from anyone listening here, that they send in songs/music/sound F/X too! Many trueSpace people need that kind of stuff for backgrounds, etc.. So, if you have created and *own* the rights to it, then please send…
Well, obviously, this is impossible, since Caligari isn't ready. Could be that they're creating a list, and will "back-order" you, or something similar.. I'd be worried about a place that says they'll ship before a product is ready..

>I'll think kindly of you every time I paint a texture now……. I get a warm feeling 🙂 Now, I still create my textures in 24 bit (KPT and other filters work better). But when I'm done with them, I use PaintShop Pro (shareware), to drop it to 8 bit.…
>> Have you been able to load them directly off the CD?
>> One thing that kind of sucks is that you have to scale it down in the detail editor, not the stage editor.
GreG, I understand that Imagine offers an LT version. Is there some information on the differences between the full version and the lite version available? Thanks, Len
>> The world octree size error means that your scene is too large, that is, the area it's occupying has exceeded Imagine's world. The way to resolve this is to scale down the scene.
Sam, I haven't the foggiest. I haven't heard of this type of behavior from anyone else either here in CIS or on the Imagine Mailing List. Don't know what to tell you. Leave a message for Mike over in ANVENA, not AmigaVen. He'll never see it in AmigaVen. -GreG
>>If you use 8 bit textures and backdrops etc… tS will still output 24 bit. This just saves memory during rendering.
Well, GreG, it looks like the crashes I've been having are being caused by Imagine. I went out and bought Norton Utilities 8.0 and Norton antivirus and ran every type of test they had. No memory problems, no disk problems, no IRQ conflicts and no virus (viruses? viri?). Any other…
>> I have a 486DX/66 with only 8 MB RAM and about 100MB hard disk space remaining
Norbert, If you are looking at manufacturing needs, you may want to consider a CAD product as opposed to a rendering/animation product. If you prefer a rendering/animation product, even if it breaks your budget, at least look at Designer from Alias–it should give you an idea of what *can* be…
>> Basically, the installation merely copies the contents of the CDROM to you're HD, so you could run the examples off the ROM….
Michael, The world octree size error means that your scene is too large, that is, the area it's occupying has exceeded Imagine's world. The way to resolve this is to scale down the scene. Forgive me, but I don't recall Imagine's world coordinate limits. If you try to create objects…
>> Is all this going to be available from the Stage Editor as well as the Detail Editor? It sounds terrific.
Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it and is the program actually on the three disks? What's on the CD, textures and models? -victor
…just eavesdropping… there is a good article in the June issue of DV (totally digital video) magazine on QT\AVI conversion.

Message #12772
Here are a couple of unrelated questions that popped up while I was working on something recently. 1) I rotated a fairly large plane I was using to make some clouds and the got a "world octree is too large" error message when I tried to render. Rotating the plane…
> and I seem to recall that some of these packages barf on 8 bits If you use 8 bit textures and backdrops etc… tS will still output 24 bit. This just saves memory during rendering. You wont see a difference in the end product. -Ian

>>Didn't you see the cigarette (sp?) smoking in the turret demo, and the Pine air freshener? More than I've seen in most others.
Yes it is Terry, I found it yesterday, and it is just the thing, especially if Caligari are going to update it to work in solid mode. These guys are just really putting colour rather than what we would refer to as textures, at least for outside stuff, so a…

Regarding the Corel DXF-export problem: Try to export the DXF to the root directory of your harddisk. I don't know why, but it works for me (still a severe bug, but at least with a workaround…) Bye, Marc e-merge

Gee, Terry, it just so happens that I have a rather large collection of bad songs which I have written over the decades. (chuckle, wondering if Terry could have guessed what he had gotten him self into). About every year or so I find myself good for nothing but doing my…
Good luck on it, Joe… although there can seem to be obstacles at first, I can assure you that if you keep on pushing, you'll get what you want. (Hmm, one other thought: Most 3D people I've met have used more than one tool. The same concepts of 3D animation…
Eh… rising tide lifts all boats, that's where the field is at right now. jd PS: Just before posting this I learned that Garry Weill and the Indeo gang have apparently uploaded a new AVI QT interconverter called "SmartVid". It's still beta, runs on Windows, and is in the Intel…
Ian / Jurgan, Regarding choice of CODECS… Both Indeo and CinePak, to a lesser degree dither their frames to achieve a more natural video look. This is a big help with natural video but plays havoc with the hard edges from graphics….this is why many people stay away from these…
Thanks Darin. I am using Paint Shop Pro. The only problem I have is converting to 24bit. Ecery time i try to convert with Paint Shop Pro it reduces to 256. I need somthing with some more power. Thanks J Bakels
Yeek ! What type of scenes was he rendering ? What type of thing do you model ? The question about how much work you'll get is obviously a tricky one – the rule here is don't commit to any significant expense without a written contract . Perhaps you could…
I got the same with my LW package!!
Don't you think they could provide a small suite of them like the Arexx scripts Arnie did…Hmmm "center" comes to mind, or how about "Text". I would find modeling on a PC without them much less appealing than on the Amiga. I believe none exist on the PreRelease and no…
