4L – retain defaults?
Message #272800
[Reply to message #222629, which is no longer available] To reset your defaults, you need to write a small script in PJL and have your AUTOEXEC.BAT file copy it the the printer. Unfortunately, I don't have all of the PJL variable values but you should be able to get them…
Blank Page Printing
Message #272798
I've been getting blank pages with small formatting commands at the beginning of my print jobs. It started out as just one blank page and now is several. This problem is only coming from one of my workstations on a Novell 3.12 Network. And it only happens from Windows applications.…
Printer/Cable Error
Message #272796
I checked the version on my status monitor, it is v2.1. Apparently, there is still a problem in the later version. I sent a message to Annie Baxter telling her that my version still had the problems. Thanks for your suggestion, if I hear anything new, I'll let you know.
Printer/Cable Errors
Message #272794
I checked the version of my status monitor, it is v2.1. If you come across any other potential solutions, I would be happy to hear from you. Thanks for your suggestion!
>> which gives the max. allowed frequency 52Hz – still far from required 60Hz.
I checked my Status Monitor Version – it is v2.1. So, there still is a problem even with the later versions. I hope HP sees these messages. Thanks again for your suggestions.
LAser 4MV & HPGL files
Message #272789
I'm trying to print either IBM-GL or HPGL2 files to a HP LaserJet 4MV connected to the parellel port of a IBM RS6000 (a unix box) The printer prints the file as text! In my virtual print queue definition the printer is sent the following initialization string: %I[pU]%?%G_j%{2}%=%t%I[pL]%e%?%G_j%{1}%=%t%I[pR,pL]\33E%I[eP,c1,eT,eS,eO,ct,eF, s,et]\33&l%{480000}%Gwn%/%Pq%gq%{1 00}%/%d.%gq%{100}%m%2dC%;%0B;%;…
HP 5P Recall Confusion
Message #272784
I have received confusing information about the HP 5P recall. A computer vendor told me that the recall was only for the 5MP, not the 5P. Is this true? I don't want the hassles of returning a printer. Thanks. -Steve
5P, 5MP difference
Message #272783
I read the text file purporting to give a product comparison of the 4P, 4MP, 5P and 5MP but for the life of me I can't see that it shows any difference between the 5P and 5MP. What am I missing?
HPLJ 4 CPU connector
Message #272782
I'm very well satisfied with my two-year use of my HP LJ4, but I have a (perhaps idiosyncratic) mechanical problem. The top spring fastener on the top pin connector on the printer (which connects the printer to the console) is apparently not strong enough to hold the connector tightly; the…
The printer does not have a serial port. I understand that I/O cards are available. Is there a serial I/O card ? If so, any idea of the part number ? Cheers Paul Read.
5P and 5MP recall
Message #272775
I read the BPL02563.ASC and find it quite uninformative. I am about to buy one of these printers and don't know how to tell if one is still subject to recall or is a "fixed" version. They should at least have indicated some way for the owner to know -…

I have created a report in Paradox for Windows 5.0. When I print the report to an HP 4L with 1Mb RAM several different items simply do no appear on the report. There is no error message. If I print this same report to my HP 4 with 2Mb RAM…

Laserjet 4 loading paper
Message #272739
Hello, I just delivered some RRW 6.0 Reports to different users. One user has got a problem when printing the reports. He's got a HP Laserjet 4 Postscript. When trying to print a report with RRWRUN, sometimes it happens, that the report is printed ok. But often there is a…
Continuous Laser?
Message #272737
I have a Customer who needs to print several thousand statements per month. He currently uses an old Dot Matrix printer which does 300 cpi. He needs to increase this significantly. Is there a HP Laser Printer that can use fanfold stationery?. If so, how does the consumable cost compare…
Nobody's reported a flicker with the 5P yet, but who knows until somebody does? At any rate, it's a result of the "green" electronics mandates the feds imposed and one that didn't work quite as well as it should have. You can reduce/eliminate the flicker in my experience in two…
That is usually caused by conflicts with specific video drivers.
Most people do not have this problem with the 2.1.2 driver that you're having, so it's certainly something in your own setup. Adobe is quite familiar with the driver and supports it in ADOBEAPPs here, and you might check and see if they have any ideas. I've had a few…
You're stuck with the WIN95 Laserjet drivers until WIN95 is no longer a beta. Sorry.
Annie, no go MSL for WIN95. That's the one exception. GO WINNEWS.
Sorry, no WIN95 stuff from HP until WIN95 is no longer in beta. However, the 4 series is supported by WIN95 Preview, at least it was on my CD.
It's easy to do, but I'm not using a WinPrinter, for which your figures are correct. I'm using a Truetech board, which is a professional level product (40 megs and a 68020 on board! Kind of a Mac on an ISA board…) and priced accordingly. Even then, you're right, the…
===>When it starts to print, the paper begins feeding, and then all four LEDs flash, and nothing else happens. I'm using a 110/220V power adapter, but the mains power in Europe is 50 cycles whereas its 60 cycles here.

upper tray jams
Message #272687
only my upper tray causes accordian folding. lower paper path does not. I can't find anything wrong (visually) and it appears to be jamming at the exit rollers. I think this is part of the path taken by the lower tray, which has no problems EVER. What's up?

Problems w/WordPerfec
Message #272681
I recently upgrade from a H-P LaserJet III to a LJ 4 Plus. I am having problems printing with WordPerfect 6.1on the new printer. In addition to a label macro printing the sender address in a different position, the addressee on envelopes using WPW's envelope function are appearing lower and…
#HP5P flicker like HP4P?
Message #272680
Just a quick question…does the new HP5P cause the same annoying light flicker that the HP4P causes? I've tried isolating the circuit every way I can, and still can't get rid of it. With all the technology HP has available, why can't they come up with a more acceptable method…
Does it matter what font you are printing with? There are some differences between the courier fonts on the IIP and 5P. Do a font print out and see what you get.
Thanks, I'll give it a shot. However, all other sound functions work fine. Would that mean I need an updated driver from HP? I ask because the events and .WAV files are correctly associated, and work when I use the Test button. If I need a driver from HP, would…
The only reason I'm looking for the 1.35 is because I'm having printing problems in W4W which I didn't have previously. The "only" change to my system besides the driver is the os – switched to OS/2 Warp. Now I have printing problems and wanted to rule out the driver.…
#Using Euro LJ4L in U.S.
Message #272654
I bought an HP Laserjet 4L in the U.K. a few weeks ago, and brought it with me to the U.S. to use. It worked fine before I left, but I'm now having a problem using it here. When it starts to print, the paper begins feeding, and then all…

Could you repost your problem with black boxes, I have this problem as well with the HP4Plus and am wondering about the details of your problem. Thanks
4ML printing black boxes
Message #272649
I saw this reply to a "black-box" printing problem. I was searching for any other reported problems, as I am having problems printing forms developed in Delrina Formflow only when I print to the HP4Plus printers. I am also printing to HPII printers and Okidata printers with no problems reported.…
#PS Driver for HP4MV
Message #272648
We desperately need a _working_ printer driver for our new HP4MV for use with FrameMaker 4.0 Windows. We received the Adobe 2.1.1 driver with the printer, and it has serious problems in that it won't print all the pages of some of our documents and causes GPFs when printing others.…

Win3.1 driver for LJ5P
Message #272620
I just purchased a 5P printer, but am having problems printing graphs from Quattro Pro 5.0 for windows. Specifically, the symbols and lines of the graph itself plot ok, as do the axis titles and tic labels. However, the box outlining the graph is vvvveeeerrrryyyy light. I do not have…
re:"Every time I print an envelope it gets wrinkled at the last 2 to 3 inches. Could this roller fix help" Maybe, maybe not. The LJ4 has enough problems with envelopes as it is without considering the output rollers. Sorry I can't be of more help. Don Morris Advanced Toner…
re: "…the left several characters of my printout…get chopped off a little more than a half inch from the left edge of the paper. I can see small pieces of the right edge of the cut off char(s)." Steven and Anne, have you double-checked your margins? If you try printing…
re: "We have recently changed toners so have ruled that out as a possibility." Do you mean that you have changed toner cartridges and the problem persists? Have you tried yet another cartridge? Have you tried another, fresh ream of paper? Paper absorbs water from the air and can affect…
Mr. Echardt, I found the information on Separator Pages and successfully modified one to go to the lower bin. However, the printout did not follow. The output is from an application called "Crystal Reports" and for me to be successful, I will need to imbed the escape sequence in the…
Thanks, I'll call them right away!
Thanks for responding and letting me know there is a driver which might help. I am working under Windows for Workgroups so I was glad to see you mention that it helps. I hope HP generates a fix soon! Thanks again.
re: "Should I have the rollers replaced, and what would be the cost of the replacement or is there something else which maybe causing the problem?" Try cleaning the rollers with typewriter platen cleaner (office supply stores) and a clean cloth. Then clean the feed guides at the back of…
This has worked for other users: At the C:\windows prompt, with the WFWG disk 3 in :A:", then disk 4 in "A:", enter: Expand A:\printman.ex_ c:\windows\printman.exe (disk 3) Expand A:\printman.hl_ c:\windows\printman.hlp (disk 4)
Depends If you're using a proportional font, you'll have a hard time (impossible) lining things up if you simply rely on spaces as your column start/stop points. If you can write a fancy printf (been a while since C, so bear with me) statement that would take advantage of the…
Thanks Andy, I'll be waiting.
Dick, No wonder I couldn't find the Boise paper . Boy is my face red! I live in western Washington State which isn't a hotbed of humid conditions, but I have seen varying results with the same paper. You make a good point about the HP facility location effecting design.…
