Tim, I have had the same thoughts, but in contrast to you I had no solution. I tried putting a slight and small bump texture on the reflective surface, too, but as you said it doesn't work they way I expected. Looks grainy. What about the roughness slider? I haven…
Hm well I think I can live without the box You could upload a 3D model of it here 🙂 -David
Hi, thanks for this workaround. I have been using this thing in other situations when I wanted to "morph" object that didn't morph (becaue of different number of points). -David
No I don't know any other places. I'll ask a friend. He is on the internet for a long time now and he's a 3D fan, too. I'll let you know. -David
You are a lot a avalon I guess? -David
#suggestions
Message #3042
Hi, is there a chance that the effects like lense flare or DOF are chagned in a way that they are not affected by the resolution of the image? Also since it's post process it would be possible to do the post process only so one could try with the…
Have to check it out. Maybe it does work when I check one of the other boxes, too. I just converted another 100 objects from various formats to DXF that I plan to upload to COMANIM. I just wanted to check if they load fine into IM having layers separated.…
#DXF in bug
Message #2996
Hi, I guess you already know but I found a bug in the DXF import. When I use "new entity -> new object" the object get's loaded fine. But right after one object(s) are drawn on the screen Imagine falls into a endless loop and the Busy cursor stays on.…
Looks like NT is the best choice for the future (even tho it's a MS product). -David
Ok I got the upgrade so I didn't get the box. I got a box with my copy of 1.1. Since then I only got updates. But I can do without a nice box if shipping to Europe is less! -David
>> The package contained my invoice, two disks and a black and white >> spiral bound manual. Dave, don't worry that's the way IM 3.0 looks like, there is no nice box (at least I didn't get one, maybe there is one for sale in the shops). -David
>> if we supported NT on Alphas and MIPS (and PowerPCs!), we can support >> something with a broader market share, eh? NT for PowerPC CPU? Is it a reality or still just a fiction? -David (still waiting for WI to arrive)
>> Do you mean to say that the WIN32S I mentioned is not good? No I'm just saying I'm not going to d/l it. I have only two Win32s programs so far and they run fine, so there is no need to change anything. It can only get worse in…
Better not! I want my Win32s program to run -David
I don't know what "the latest" Win32s is, but I do know that OS/2 supports it. A friend of mine has written a W32s raytracer and it ran fine under OS/2 Warp. If MS changes it's Win32s specs so quickly they will not only confuse develpoers but at the same…
Sam, as long as it is not a *real* NT version you can run it under OS/2 because OS/2 uses the original Windows on your system. So if it will run with Windows it will also run under WinOS/2. -David
Win32s is cool, no problem with that. BTW is the L/T CD done? -David
Mike, will it be an NT or at least a Win32s version? -David
#3.11
Message #2530
Just heard about a 3.11 version of Imagine. How do I get it if not with the constant update program? -David
Found it. It's in the other menu so I didn't find it at first. BTW, just one more suggestion: a deselector and an adjustable value (tolerance) for the merge function (to eliminate very small faces) -David

can't find sub group
Message #2093
Hi Mike, sometimes when working with bones not everything works 100%. I set up an object with bones and when I use update bones IM tells me it can't find subgroup. Unfortunately it doesn't say which one!!! I think it would be very easy to ad this to Imagine. -David
Ah yes there it is. Didn't find it because it's in the other menu. -David
#bones subgroups
Message #2084
Hi Mike, just found out that when using the new way to assign the bones subgroups the name is twisted. The *big* bones subgroup is called name.SB and the *small* one is called name.BB. But the assignment itselve is correct. BTW, maybe I'm missing a simple thing. I would like…
Mike, great! I hope it will never come back! -David
Mike, don't reformat your HD, it won't help. Many people have reported the problems you described (including me). It's the mem management that doesn't work well together with some machine setups or other software. Impulse reccometns to boot bare with nothing but a mouse driver. When I had these problems…
John, here! -David
Would you mind taking a look in your \windows\system directory and tell me the date fo the file "64k_800.drv"? Mine is 19.03.93. Do you have a newer one? -David
>> If you don't like paying for plug-in's, then you should take back your >> raving about LW's future capability of plug-in's. You must confuse me with someone else. I haven't said anything about LW in any of my recent messages. I don't even have it. And I won't participate…
Kevin, I reccoment the PAR (personal animation recoder) from DPS. It's a card for the PC (or Amiga). It's a HD-VCR. You give it the TGA files and after a short time you can play back your anim as video. Supports full video resolution. I think it's $2500 plus HD.…
Nathan, oddly shaped objects should create odd looks when used with texture mapping. Maybe you try to render the object from one view and use that image as a basis for painting the texture. It's a good way to create texture for "oddly shaped" objects. -David
Phil, what is the date of the drivers in WUGNET? Just don't want to d/l it only to find out that I already have them. -David
>> I made the mistake of trying to use it to write a book. After so many MS programs you should have known that! -David
>> think there is an IPAS that lets you do that >> Fortunately, there's an easier way in 3DS. So it's not in 3DS, but an extra package. People tend to say "3DS can do that", but it's not 3DS, it an IPAS (=extra $$$). >> Do you know of…
Ed, there is one. Check out Graphsupport Forum for animation payers. There should be the latest Video for Windows drivers. I'm sure you can also find them in MSLIB. -David
hehe morphing seems to be perfect for political stuff 🙂 -David
>> Got some time you can lend me? You send every minute on CIS and now you are compaining you don't have enough time? -David
But aren't we all look for faster rendering wich is as far as I know mostly floating point math? -David
Andy, rendering time depends on the CPU, not on the graphics card. What renderer do you use? -David
Alain, I had the same card. It's VESA 1.1 or 1.01 or something. Just use univesa from Amiga Vendor Forum (I have uploaded it there) to "upgrade" you card to VESA 1.2. -David
The new version is a NURBS modeller. And it's fast! Only saw a very first version. -David
Did you ever made an animation for a political ad? -David
Yes, this should work, but it sounds like a lot of work 🙂 -David
Jim, the splashing water are particles. They explode a little and the gravity brings them down again very quick. The particles are small transparent spheres. Particles are a great thing. You can use them for so many things! I did the anim at TV resolution and the whole thing (the…
>> I've got some questions on them, but gotta go to work, I'll ask >> later.:) just ask, I don't have secrets. 🙂 -David
Hi Jeff, we have political commercials on TV. Every party gets time on TV, but they can't buy commercial time just like other commercials. So it's limited. -David
Thank you very much for the very detailed comparsion. Never seen something like this before! Great! 🙂 -David
Hehe I know. I know a guy who works htere. He has written a raytracer for a small german animation program before he went to Blue Sky. Someone from Blue Sky talked about their projects at Siggraph. They have developed a lot of great stuff. -David
Just ask if you want to know anything. That's what these forums are for 🙂 -David
I'm still hoping for Sculptura 2. Saw a beta and it was very good, but it will take some time till it is out. -David
