Lyle, I went back and read the message from James and his statement "I wouldn't trust the data integrity of file ops from the Windows File Manager on the PAR" holds true even if you are using RP or that other program. I would only access the drives from RP…
Lyle, There are a couple of things you might try, if you can see the PAR drive in DOS o.k. and the problem shows up in Windows only, you need to turn the 32 Bit File Access to OFF in the Control Panel under Enhanced 386 Virtual Memory settings. If…
Don, I suggest mounting the extra hard drive cooling fan in all of the PAR systems that I sell, but for myself I have not had the heating problems most people talk about. There are a few things that I contribute that to, first, I have a large tower with…
Mark, The micropolis 1.6 gig drive (2217A) will run hot. My rule of thumb is if you can leave your hand on the drive it is not too hot! Another thing to do is move the drive away from other HD's, extra fans also work great. You talked about problems…

Paul, >> Where do I get the drivers for 3DS to recognize the VIPER PRO VIDEO card
Martin, >> I got a set of early beta NT s/w (v0.01)
Lance, To add to what Ralph said, there is a mixed set of color bars on the DPS BBS also and they are compressed in there native .STL format. -Mike
Terry, I have heard from more than one person about problems with the HP3C scanner. Here are a couple of quotes from others (on the HP Forum), take them for what its worth. My choice would be a HPIIcx at a reduced price if you could find one. I have…
>> AMMEDIA/CIS '95 Siggraph party a huge success! >without a doubt the star of Siggraph '95 — Autodesk's 3D Studio MAX for Windows NT!
Richard, The problem you are experiencing is quite common. Here are a few different ways to solve your problem, use your judgement on which one suits you best. 1. Use the Make Final (selected only) with the frame you need to use as the still frame. Then import the ANI…
Martin, >> Today I received a PAL PVR system from DPS UK 8-)) The bad news is that I haven't been able to get it working |-(
Roger, You are in the AMMEDIA Forum, much of the information here is about 3D Studio (a 3D Modeling Program). You should try Turtle Beach, they are the sound experts. Type GO MULTIVEN and check into there QUAD STUDIO program. -Mike
Ralph, >> I've been working on a maze fly thru (67 separate camera paths!)
Neil, I hope this information will help you get your models into 3DS I'll try to cover any problems you might stumble on. >> I got one response saying that there were too many vertices to create the shape.>> a) keep an AME version of the drawing saved. explode the…
Fernando, Schreiber Instruments ph# 303-759-1024 has a product called Image Nursery and is due out with a Nursery II sometime soon, not sure when. They also have a set of tools called Imagine Detailor which will do brick, stone and wood style fences. -Mike
Ernie, There is a file in Lib #6 parw121.zip this should do the trick. -Mike
Dave, RP doesn't do Quick Time Movies so I use a small program called TMOOV.exe (CANYON Movie Toolkit ver 1.20, by CANYON Software) that converts Quick Time to AVI and AVI to Quick Time. As far as Speed Razor check out in:sync's SIGGRAPH booth. -Mike
Laurie, >> Oh, you're pardoned! You're pardoned! Treat the place like your own. Take your shoes off. Scratch, if you want to!
>> SPEED RAZOR MACH III is native NT code and is running 3-4 times as fast as the Windows 3.1 Razor Pro. Yes, it sounds like a good package, from everythings I've heard,
PMJI>>Laurie, Quite often I use Corel 4.0 to import to the shaper and the problem you are describing will happen if create an object with the "fill on". Here are the steps that I use and it works for me every time. 1. Create your object with outline only! If…
Paul, I'm also using the Viper Pro SE and a Viper P9000 and they all work without a glitch. Glad to be of some help! -Mike
Paul, I'm using the Viper Pro Video with Win NT, Speed Razor Mach III, 3DS4 and Acad R12 & R13. For 3DS4 the newest Vibrant 1.07 drivers work well. Good luck! -Mike
PMJI>>Jim, Premier will do the job, but if you have the DPS PAR or PVR system, you will want to use Razor Pro. The RP software uses the PAR much more efficiently than Premier, and with NT comming into view the new SPEED RAZOR MACH III is native NT code…
Brandon, It looks like the first part of my message to you has vanished, since I referenced to Item #1 I figured I better complete it, so here it is. >> 1) Are there any notebook computers out there capable of either a} playing back full screen video (as part…
Robert, The Digital Elevation Model information you have can be converted with software, I can't think of the name of the software but you can call ESRI in REDLANDS, CA and they will help you out. From the DEM information I have used in the past the data was not…
notebook >> 2) Is a pentium notebook with lots of ram fast enough to play back full screen or near full screen video (avi's with audio) from either its internal hard drive or built in CD-ROM drive? 3} Is the PAR with a TBCIV the best option for capturing existing…
Robert, There will be a couple things to watch out for with the DEM file. First 3DS does not allow objects to have more than 64K faces or vertices so you will have to break up the file by layers or colors. Next thing to watch out for is the…
Doug, Check my message to Robert on this subject. Ripware is a great program and it is less expensive than Oynx. -Mike
PMJI>>Robert, Here is a note on a couple of things you have been discussing. There is a Postscript RIP that I have been testing for a few months and will do the job quite well without any ram in the printer and using between 32 & 64 megs of ram…
>> what drive(s) you have on PAR
Don, This is very typical of the manufactures, they are always butting heads with each other with address conflicts, timming issues, MB layout or whatever else happens, I often wonder if they do it just to keep us on our toes or if they just don't listen. As far as…
Terry, >> Actually the CPU fan, the tower case wasn't the problem
Terry, I really didn't think that it should be a problem on most computer cases. There are going to be more problems with the PCI mother boards and the CPU & RAM getting in the way than there will be computer case problems. Glad to here that everything worked out…
>>PMJI here, a tower case for a computer cost about $100, of your are talking about spending $3,000 – $4,000 on the PVR hardware & drives, what's $100? I think DPS has a lot more to worry about than making there product fit into some of these slim tower cases.…
Christie, Just the other day I assembled an 8:43 min. clip with a 96 meg 44.1 KHz audio file. The audio file was played from a AV SCSI drive and the clip from the PAR drive, all without a problem, although the wave file does take some time to load.…
>> Any other tricks to back -up PAR?
Christie, The preview will be video card dependant, the speed of the playback will work different depending which resolution, amount of colors (custom palate) and also amount of compression. IN:SYNC has tested the VideoLogic 928 and I have the Viper PRO Video, both of these cards have an accelerator chip…
Christie, Here are some settings to try. Preview Settings: Set Image size = 25% of Final Set Compressor Options = Microsoft Video 1 The "Same as Final Output Settings" is NOT selected Final Output Settings: Set File Name = Select your PAR drive and type in a unique file name…
Eron, I see you finally made your way over to Asoft, welcome to the forum. I'm just trying to keep the pressure off you guys at IN:SYNC so you can keep moving on the NT software. -Mike
Christie, From all of what you have described , it looks like you might have a few problems unrelated to each other. >> When the preview is rendering, each frame jerks on the screen but no change
Bob, I'm not sure if you are working with large files, but here is another suggestion for you– There is a line in the PAR.INI file that controls the amount of frames that you can playback, MAX_FRAMES= this defaults to approx. 8,500 and should be increased if you have one…
William, I just read an article where Compaq has joined with 3M to develop a 120MB 3.5-inch diskette that will work in existing high-density drives, you will need one of the new drives to get full capacity. The high-density drives will be backwards read/write compatible with the 1.44MB and 720KB…
Bob, The situation you are describing sounds like a problem that DPS had with there MCI drivers a few versions back. If you haven't already, you need to download the latest drivers from IN:SYNC's BBS and they also have the new version 1.0f of Razor Pro. The old MCI drivers…
Craig, I have been working with a company called ImageWorx, they have a Postscript RIP called Ripware for Windows and it does a great job of sending files to my NovaJet III. I use TGA's in CorelDraw to create very nice presentations with antialiased text and vector art. Give them…
Daniel, the best way to print/plot your 3DS files is from a paint package that supports your HP 650c machine. You need to Render to a file from 3DS at a resolution that is no less than 150 DPI to achieve any kind of quality (i.e. for a 24 x…
>> Is Razor Pro on a 486 a ridiculous idea?
Gilbert, One more note that might help you getting a DXF into 3DS. Make sure that you keep your objects at 64k vertices or less. One way is to control the drawing is with layers or by colors keeping each under 64k and then load/merge the file in 3DS by…
If you have not already upgraded, the current patch for rel 13 Acad is c2b_c2. The c2 patch corrected some DXF problems and the c2b_c2 is a maintenance patch to the c2 version. If you have already upgraded the only other problems I remember is the ACIS modeling portion of…
>>What size and aspect ratio would I set a rendering so that it's size would be equal to 2-1/8 X 10-7/8? This is for an ad in a magazine, and that is the size I need to have the image.
>> Will IMAGE ALCHEMY allow plotting from Corel (I need the vector text), or only bitmap images?
