Yeah, *E – that's great. Thanks. So, what do you hear on 1.3? The preview in Amiga Sentry didn't have much to say about the CLI environment. However, WB has gotten a nice facelift.
Thanks, I'll look into that. Is it on the premiere TransAmiga disk?

Hmmm… that's a good idea. An ever better idea would a program that would generate and create a self-launchable program that would _include_ the file to be downloaded, along with a WB icon. That way, each font could get a different font ID, allowing several to be downloaded simultaneously. By…

Hmmm… been using your Echo since it's been up there. In fact, on both Amigas in my office, I have a beautiful startup-sequence that displays all company officers and titles using reverse video, italics, highlighting, etc. with your Echo. What I need now is a Q&D way of sending ESCape…

Absolutely. But, there could be buttons for 1/2/3 pages per page, plus a string gadget where you could enter up to, say, 10. That's a good idea. I'm working hard at getting downloaded fonts at the click of an icon and I'm very close. Will keep you posted.

Thanks. Yeah, I knew it was something like that. And isn't '*n' for a newline sequence? And there are a couple more, I think. Are many of the c commands in 1.3 rewritten in 68K? I wonder if the BCPL conventions will be simulated by these commands.

This program is shaping up into a real handy utilitiy. Maybe it should have a shrinkable window ala SatisFACCtion or NAG and sit on WB. As for the board, I think I'll pick up the HP optional parallel board. I have immediate needs for only one other computer. Besides, I…

I only use the A4 cartridge so far, but I plan on getting the envelope cart. Your ideas for the setup program are great; forget about Preferences printers – they've got plenty of setup programs already. Yes, go ahead and UPLoad the new file. I'll check it out. By the…

The more I use the HP, the more I like it. By the way, the Workbench 1.3 printer drivers have an anti-aliasing option that'll smooth out the Amiga Fonts for laser output. However, even unsmoothed, there are so many beautiful Amiga fonts available and they all look much better on…

I believe that the printer can send info on fonts and memory available. Perhaps you could read this info and allow the user to display/edit it (i.e., select font from available fonts, select symbol set from available sets, select density base on memory available, etc.). I agree, softfonts should be…

Thanks for the tip on Microsearch. No, I've never used IQuest, but I've read a lot about it in Online Today. I bought the LJII last week and am very satisfied with it.

Thanks for the info on the card for the LJ2. I'll let you know if they do have a parallel version. I use LJ2 (the program, not the printer) for all my draft output now. If you have a shareware policy on the program, please let me know and my…

NYC sales tax is a whopping 8.25%. However, I don't see any problem in having it shipped to a tax-free state.

Well, when my Toshiba P341 went down for the third time, I got the HP LJII. In addition to much faster and quieter, the text is absolutely perfect. The Toshiba couldn't hold the HP's jock strap.

The card sounds great, but I really need parallel input since I'm using a special parallel extension cable for the other Amiga in the next room. Maybe the company makes a Centronics version? Gimme the name and I'll check it out. Do you do any graphics on the printer? From…

Khalid: I'm interested in this card you have. Does it install inside the printer or the Amiga? And it has two extra parallel ports? And it does intelligent switching? That would be great for me! How much memory do you have on the printer? How much is enough to do…
Chris: The list price, according to the review this month in Online Today, is $2,595. ComputerLand across the street from me was selling it for $1,750. And this ain't no discount operation. A bit further downtown yielded prices in $1,700 range. All the way down to Park Row, near City…
Matt: After much research, I purchased a Hewlitt-Packard LaserJett Series II today. Honestly, I've been as happy with very few purchases… Despite what the moron salesman at J+R, here in downtown Manhattan, said, it does beautiful raster graphics without any expansion RAM (comes with .5MB). Much, much cleaner, crisper and…

I'm seriously considering getting a new printer – one of those laser jobs. Are there any special considerations using one of these printers with the Amiga? I've looked at the Okidata LaserLine 6 (rated best buy of '87 by Computer Shopper) and, of course, the HP LaserJet II. Are printer…
Dom: It's an extension cable, so it makes your existing cable 3' longer. No, I don't believe an extra three feet will introduce any timing problems. Why don't you call the company and ask about it? Roger

Dom: Michigan Software has drive cable extenders for the 500/1000/2000. They run $24.95 (whew!) for a 3' cable. You can contact them at 313-348-4477. Roger

DPaint II

When adjusting either the X or Y aspect in DPaint's Print requestor, leave the OTHER value at ZERO. This preserves the aspect ratio (i.e., height to width ratio) to give you a well-proportioned dump. Also, as per Marlene's suggestion, set the orientation from Horizontal to Vertical in Preferences.

You saved the day! The real key, I see now, is using those first 16 colors to create text so Digi-Paint doesn't artifact the hell out of it. Instead of using your merge idea, I just import the text as a brush from D'Paint – much easier. However, I can't…

Very much obliged for your interest. Here's the story… I've digitized a couple of dozen images in HAM/Interlace to be used in a business video presentation due Monday. I need to add text to the images (the images I clean up in Digi-Paint; very nice). Then, I plan to use…

I've heard so many rumours about new versions of Kickstart and Workbench; does anybody have anything closer to the straight scoop on this? Will 1.21 (which I understand allows you to boot from hard disk) be released before 1.3? Will CBM issue ROM upgrades for 500 and 2000 users (unprecedented…

So, is it me? I saw an edition of The Computer Program on my local PBS station recently. There was a marketing guy from IBM on the show demonstrating OS/2 and, I've got to tell you, it was sad. Each task gets its own page (or screen, in AmiTalk), with…
Mike: I wish it were true. But I know it's not. Roger
Mike: Hehe… seems I've heard those words somewhere before … I used to work over on CIN – that's the Commodore Information Network, a bunch of SIGs (now called Forums) and a few thousand DISPLA pages of info owned and run by CBM a few years ago. It seems the…
Mike: Oooh… what I would give to have that memo on Mr. Toy's desk tomorrow morning. Roger
Don: Puh-leeeeeeeeese! The correct term is 'extenSIONS'. I wouldn't care to discuss what wholly revolting connotations are brought to mind by the oft-incorrectly used 'extenDERS'. Roger P.S. Nothing personal you understand – I've been meaning to get this off my chest for a long time.
Jerry: Yeah, it's funny. My very first computer was a PDP-8 configured as the WT-78. This was their so-called limited edition (not by design, you understand) set-up that included a VT-52 terminal, with international keyboard (with special key-caps), a PDP-8 CPU, a pair of RX01 disk drives (the 8" kind)…
Andy: Is there a version or release number I can refer to when asking my dealer about the latest release of the BridgeBoard (Aread/Awrite, etc.) software? Roger
