#astudio manual
Message #170822
Im a 3ds user who is thinking about Animator studio, reading the traffic to see what the problems are. The lack of a manual is critical. I wouldnt consider the software without it. I gave away a black belt morph program for the same reason. The vast swap files required…
PMJI > It would depend on the size of the source material you were scanning. To me the main thing is how many pixels are involved. Unless you are ending up with a printed output, dpi is not the most important factor . An image with a given number of…
Sorry, I just assumed you had a scanner. Ed
You're right. Ed
Bones Pro purchased before 2-1-95 = $95 upgrade Bones Pro purchased between 2-1-95 to 3-1-95 = $45 upgrade Bones Pro purchased after 3-1-95 – FREE Damn! I bought it too soon. ED
Im pushing 50 and I even like Bevis and Butthead.
Without going into the details, I found 3ds much faster, better designed and more productive than Real3d. In my opinion the difference in price, even including a lot of IPAS routines is much less significant than the real cost of working with difficult to use tools ( time really is…
You are right, the extra steps involved in scanning (especially film to print) degrade the image. Recently Ive had access to a poloroid slide scanner and I like it very much. ED

I would try dermatology trade mags. Ive found that there are certain dpi settings that will make this problem worse. Ive found that changing resoultion settings on the scanner, rotating the source slightly and applying a little blur can help a lot. Ed
Cant hurt to re post directly to Jonas Ed
Good wish list stuff. Ed
I see that G has sent you the major boolian helpful hints by JKJ. Its helped me some in my struggles in this area. Whenever I note that creative people are exerting their energy in constructing amazing work arounds I think that here is where we need new features. A…
Thats got to be it. Thanks a lot! Ed
#VP and Penello
Message #167382
Im using Penello to brush a series of images ( 1200 ) so I have two entries in VP, first the images ( imag*.tga ) and then the Penello entry. What Ive run into is after rendering about 450 finished files (outp*.tga ) the rendering stops and I get CANNOT…
Thanks for your good work on your product. I look foward to the upgrade. Ed
> Not primitive but convoluted and unintuitive. Like most of the folks on this forum I live on the computer, having given up getting my hands dirty with clay, paint and other materials. The productivity gain is of course more than substantial. There are a few areas where computer tools…
Thanks, it should prove useful. Ed
Thanks . but the verts are not close together in this particular problem Ed

Message #164361
Hello Jonas I would like a spot that would cast shadows all the way around or a shadow casting omni. Ive had to do some elaborate work arounds with several spots and exclude to simulate the light from a candle, fire or naked light bulb. Thanks Ed
Steve Thanks for taking the time to inform us of your point of view. Some of us have noted ( after extensive testing ) that dxfs exported from Hash sculpture module, although they work most of the time in 3ds, have holes in them which show up when they are…
My $0.02 on "the thread that wouldnt die" The thing that amazes me about these religous wars ( LW vs 3ds is nothing compared to Mac vs PC ) is that they dont seem to happen in related fields. For example, I dont think photographers go on about how their…
Hello Heinz Good point on the over use of whatever the effect of the hour is. I especially enjoyed the part about putting lenses on our eyes. Ive actually heard folks talk about lens flares as a "realistic" effect when it really just emulates the a camera lenses flaws. About…
#meshpaint suggestion
Message #162421
Brent Ive been getting going using MP in production and the time savings over the grid method is great. I was re reading the article on 3d paint programs for SGI in CGW and noted that some of the guys using them were doing what Ive ended up doing which…
Traditional 2d animators have used 2's for all but the fastest moving characters. 2's in film translates to 12 images per second. Even though 2's in video is 15 images per second it dosent seem to work as well for 3d work and often gives a jerky look when the…
This thread on cost of tools is is intersting because things change so quickly in this field. A few weeks after reading about cool 3dpaint in CGW for 30k, Meshpaint comes out (it may not have all the same features yet but it look like it will improve quickly). On…
Sanford maybe Danny is listening and will give us an update. Otherwise I will ask him directly for an update. Ive played briefly with the Nurbs demo in the lib but it seens unintuitive after working with sculpture. Also some of the dialogs are in german. Have you tried it?…
Brent Excellent! Ed
>>Neither of these suggestions will make it into 1.0, which was completed today. We can probably put together a quick update with these features and a few others within a short amount of time. Great! I really appreciate your willingness to be responsive to users. >>Any suggestions on implementation would…
