Controller confusion Message #118261
From: John Gager AmigaTech Forum · Drives/Controllers August 29, 1990 10:23 PM
I've been wanting to upgrade to an auto-booting HD controller and put my trusty old 2090 in retirement. But lately there has been a rash of new and/or improved controllers to hit the market. The 2091, ICD's, GVP's Series II, etc. If anyone has any experience with the latest controllers,…
#117567 Hard Drive Woes Message #117575
From: John Gager AmigaTech Forum · Drives/Controllers August 22, 1990 11:46 PM
I remember reading way back that early beta versions of the 1.3 FastFileSystem would trash a hard drive when it got over half way full. Make sure you have the latest version (mine is Version 36.03 dated 5/9/89). Probably not your problem unless you accidently got ahold of an old…

rThanks Clint for the Diskperf results. I've been wanting to upgrade from my 2090 to a 2091 but wanted to make sure those rumors I heard were false. In fact you are getting slightly better results than I'am with my 105S, but we may have things set up differently. John…
#2091 Controller Message #110352
From: John Gager AmigaTech Forum · Drives/Controllers June 28, 1990 9:09 PM
I've been hearing some rumors that the 2091 controller is slower than either the 2090 or 2090A, in fact about half as fast as those two. I would be interested if anyone else has heard this, or could leave a message with their DiskPerf results using the 2091 and Quantum…
#110089 2090A & Quantum 105S Message #110163
From: John Gager AmigaTech Forum · Drives/Controllers June 27, 1990 12:37 AM
Sam, probably the major problem in not getting your drive to Prep was using a Unit number of 2 in your mountlist. SCSI drives use unit numbers of 3-9 while ST-506 drives use unit numbers of 1 and 2. Also in the AmigaDos 1.3 manual it states that the first…
#109869 #2090A & Quantum 105S Message #110050
From: John Gager AmigaTech Forum · Drives/Controllers June 25, 1990 11:56 PM
Sam, you might upload your Mountlist and I will take a look at it for you. When I received my 105S I had a heck of a time getting it to work with my 2090 until I changed the Unit number in my Mountlist entry to 9. Apparently it came…

Yep, the extra space is nice along with the speed boost. See the message I left to Kerry Foster concerning some info I found on Genie about the 105S. Maybe this will help you get set up if you haven't already done so. John

Kerry: Thanks for the info on the 105S. As I mentioned to Don, I was able to get some information on Genie and this is what I used to set up my 105: . .Number of Heads: 2 .Number of Cylinders: 3203 .Blocks per track: 32 . So if you…

Thanks Don for Quantum's phone number. I did find some info on Genie today concerning the 105s so I was able to get the drive up and running. I like the extra storage space and speed compared to my old reliable 8425S. John

Dave: I left a message earlier trying to get some information on the Quantum 105 such as the number of cylinders, number of heads, blocks per track, etc., but nobody answered so I'm still in the dark on getting the drive preped and the mountlist ready. I'm using a 2090…
Quantum Pro Drive 105S Message #108704

I just ordered a Quantum Pro Drive 105S (105 meg) but I'm not sure if it will come with any technical info. If someone has the info on this drive such as number of heads, number of cylinders, tracks per cyliner, write precompensation cylinder, etc. I would appreciate it! I…

Recently I purchased a MiniScribe 3053 hard drive that I've been having quite a bit of problems with and was wondering if anyone else has this drive. I purchased this drive back in March and about 2 months later it bit the dust. What would happen is when I turned…
#57330 VideoScape Question Message #58003

Henry: I have used the MathIeee libraries from AmigaBasic, but its not easy! I have some example code around here somewhere and when I find it, I'll upload it for you. As a suggestion, you might consider purchasing the Hisoft Basic compiler. Hisoft basic normally uses the MathIEEE libraries, so…

#41887- BASIC Enhancements? Message #41896
From: John Gager AmigaTech Forum · Other Languages March 30, 1989 1:32 AM
There are some incompatibilities between Absoft and Hisoft Dom, but nothing major. In some cases you might have to make some changes to Sub programs to make them work right. The command LIBRARY must appear before a DECLARE FUNCTION statement when using the system libraries, while in Absoft it doesn't…

Are you doing an "Unlink" when you shut down Brad? If you don't do this before you do a re-boot or turn off the computer, your data is gone! I think there is a cure in which you do not have to worry about "unlink", like completely filling your virtual…

From: John Gager AmigaTech · Expansion Hardware January 6, 1989 11:55 PM
I agree with you Jay, the 500 is a nice computer, and when I had mine, was very reliable. But we both needed to expand it beyond what it is really capable of. I'm sure that with the proper buffering and termination, an expansion chassis can be made for the…

Hmmm….you conclusion is that the 2090 has been given a bum rap for supposed DMA interference with 640x400x4 screens…..well ponder this Larry. Before I had my 2090 controller I owned a C-LTD, and had no problems with it loading a HiRes picture with Dpaint, but since I've moved to the…
From: John Gager AmigaTech · Drives/Controllers January 5, 1989 4:01 AM
Larry: I certainly have problems loading a Hi-Res picture in Dpaint II in that it takes a painfully long time to load. I'm using the May 5th 88 (I think) version of hddisk.device downloaded from one of the libraries here, so you may have a newer version. If so, how…
#28418 #Memory HELP! Message #28946
From: John Gager AmigaTech · Expansion Hardware January 5, 1989 3:30 AM
Jay, I found out the hard way that the best way to expand a 500 beyond one board was to get a 2000. I had a SubSystem 500 and when I just had the 2052 memory board plugged in, everything would work fine. But when I added the 2090 controller,…

#20266 SCSI Drives Message #20278
From: John Gager AmigaTech · Drives/Controllers November 5, 1988 2:45 AM
As a matter of fact Don, when I was looking over the drive I did notice that one of the chips on the controller board was marked Adaptec. So it looks like the 8425S is not a true embedded SCSI drive, and would explain the similar diskperfs. Oh well, my…
#12478 #Enhanced Chip Set Message #12542
From: John Gager AmigaTech Forum · Expansion Hardware September 21, 1988 2:41 AM
You mean the Fat Agnus chip is not socketed in the 2000 like it is in my 500? So I don't see too much problem with the average user destroying the motherboard unless its soldered in. Of course, I've had people bring their Computers over after they have installed an…

In your Work Perfect manual, after the "Installation" divider, is all the info that you need to get WP set up on a Hard Disk. It tells you what SubDirectories, files, and Assign statements that need to be set up. So if all else fails, read the manual!

Does anyone know if the Enhanced chip set (Fatter Agnus, Denise, etc.) has been released yet and if so, what the package part number and price is? I know that the newer features of Denise won't be useable until 1.4 comes out, but the 1 meg of chip ram capability…
