Mike – They might have an 800 number, but I know their Miami number (it's local for me 8^) ). It's (305) 255-9302. The main person's name is John Chu. Harry
#104851 Avant-Garde & M2S Message #105046
From: Harry Callesis AmigaTech Forum · Other Languages May 16, 1990 9:08 PM
Leon – The last version I heard about (and received) was 1.10. What is the best way to get myself updated to 1.12? And, without getting specific about what you may or may not be doing, can you give a yes or no on the question of further development of…

Leon – I am an M2Sprint owner. Are you going to be upgrading M2Sprint to work with KS/WB 2.0 if needed? Are we going to see enhancements to the compile environment? i.e., before M2S went under, we were told about some improvements that were under developement. Are you continuing with…

Paddy – The Director and Zoetrope are also supposed to be very good. I don't own either so I can't say for sure either way. Harry

Steven – As far as I know, the Toaster does indeed genlock, as well as frame-grab and a bunch of other stuff. But its inability to work with non-professional equipment (ignoring for the moment the rumored high-end consumer stuff supposedly being released) puts it off my list. My personal opinion,…

Pete – I've been looking at the 2000S, but I'm not sure if my budget will handle it. Do you have any hints about the "fancy additional hardware" that might change my mind? (Food? Who needs it? 8^) ). Harry
From: Harry Callesis Amiga Arts Forum · General Help May 14, 1990 6:28 PM
Steven – Don't throw the SuperGen away if the equipment you are working with is recent consumer-level stuff (camcorders, VCRs, etc.). According to Amazing and a couple of other sources (including NewTek's online rep) you need equipment with either time-base correctors (for VCRs) or a camera with external synch. These…
Craig – Oh, OK. Between you and Tim I get the picture 8^). I've never been to Chicago before (nor to a CES) and thus was unfamiliar with the territory. Now if I can just wrangle a business card outta somebody … Harry
#103713 GVP '030 Troubles? Message #103889
If it helps any, my trusty Guru list shows the 81000005 as a corrupted memory list, and 0000000B as a CPU Exception/Op code 1111. Don't ask me what they mean … 8^). Harry
Craig – McCormick … Hotel? Convention Center? Hmmmm … Maybe the relatives I'll be seeing up there can get me there. Thanks for the info. Harry
Steve – Since you mentioned CES, would you happen to know where in Chicago it's being held? I'm going to be in Chicago for two weeks around that time, and I plan to catch both CES and AmiExpo (I know where AmiExpo will be). Thanks .. Harry

Trouble is, I don't have those few thousand dollars. I've been looking at existing genlocks, frame grabbers/buffers, etc. (which will work with equipment I currently own) and was interesting in getting all that plus more in _one_ unit with the toaster, for about the same cost. If I am going…
#32663- Video Toaster (again) Message #32706
From: Harry Callesis Amiga Arts Forum · Hot News and Rumors April 29, 1990 7:09 PM
I guess what my questions boil down to is this – I have 2 VCRs (HiFi Stereo, 6 head VHS) that I purcheased about 3 years ago. I have access (through a friend) to an RCA that was top-of-the-consumer-line when purchased (a little less than a year). Will these drive…

Heard some interesting news about the infamous Toaster last night. A friend of mine had been at WOA and talked to one of the techs at the NewTek booth. It seems that the Toaster requires a "time base corrector" to work with video tape input, or if using live camera…
#100103 #ST Emulator? Message #100147
From: Harry Callesis AmigaTech Forum · Talk to the Trade April 26, 1990 6:28 PM
Betty – I just uploaded the emulator he's talking about. It seems to be a Beta/demo of the program. I hear that some thing work, and some don't. I know that I tried a couple of programs, and they ran but didn't do all they were supposed to. One was…
#99095 #WordSync Problems Message #99159
From: Harry Callesis AmigaTech Forum · Drives/Controllers April 20, 1990 8:00 PM
Hmmmm. You might try using device 2 on the second device rather than one. My memory tells me that I didn't have much luck trying to use device 1 when I first set up my first SCSI chain (Supra main drive, albeit on another computer). When you boot the formatting…
#99084- #WordSync Problems Message #99158
From: Harry Callesis AmigaTech Forum · Drives/Controllers April 20, 1990 8:00 PM
What I mean is, the drives connected to the WordSync supply the SCSI IDs. The card itself is not a device, just a controller. My 296N is set to device 0, and my external 4070 is set to device 2, and there are no conflicts with the card.

Trevor – The ST system does allow for overwrite confirmation – it's a selectable item that can be turned off if you trust yourself enough. Harry

Rick – Just as a point of information, the Imtronics card now has an asynchronous design, and while it does need a hardware switch (which I have mouted on my LED panel) to go to 68000 mode, the SCSI hard drive controller still allows autoboot from the hard drives. Harry

Gene – If you find you are interested in the Hurricane board, I suggest you call Imtronics for the latest info. Since the AmigaWorld review came out, they have gone to an Asynchronous design, and I just got a PAL upgrade in mine that allows the SCSI controller to autoboot…

Steve – Rats. Oh, well, it was worth a try. I guess I'll have to give Imtronics my machine for a day or two so they can trace what the problem is. I just found out last night that Sonix won't run now either, though if I turn the card…

You may have given me a clue to a problem I'm having. What exactly was the problem with the 256Kx4 DRAMs that they fixed with Rev 6.2, and would that problem have existed under 4.4, given the board redesign for the 1M chips? I ask because I am having difficulties…

I don't know about the GVP A3001 card, but the Hurricane 2800 is set up to go to a max 16 meg if you use 1Mx4 rams instead of 256Kx4. A jumper (at least one, maybe more) has to be changed also.

Herman – In Ft. Lauderdale, there is a computer store called The Computer Room that supports Amiga. You might want to take a trip there and ask. The owner's name is Brett Cramer, and he might know of a couple. Harry

Brian – USR also makes what they call a Dual Standard – it does 14.4K baud in HST mode, and can also handle V.32 at 9600. Those two probably cover the majority of the high-speed boards out there. It is, of course, more expensive, but when I got mine they…

Wayne – Just out of curiosity, how much stack are you using? Reason I ask is because I had a _lot_ of trouble trying to import graphics (in my case it was .IMG files) until one day, for lack of anything else to try, I went into the icon and…

Sean – The chips you have go in the following locations: U16,U18,U20,U22,U24,U26,U28,U30 on the left-hand side of the board. U55-U62 on the right-hand side of the board. Make sure all the notches line up properly with the board diagrams. Jumpers: For 4 megs, it's J1-Closed, J2-Open. I don't know how…

Brian – I just changed my setup from an A2090 with ST251 drive to a WordSync with a 296N. Zero problems. The Supra software is a breeze to use, and all formatting and mountlist setup is done automatically. I _think_ it'll even ask for your workbench disk when it is…

Steve – Thanks for the info. That price for the 10 megs has me curious – to go from $27 each to $20/box of 10 in just about a year just doesn't seem right, somehow. Are you sure they didn't mean the 1.2 meg HD 5.25" that the ATs use?…

Steven – I don't have either of those sysyems on my A2000, but the Supra 10-meg floppy on my ST uses the Konica mechanism. I use it to do backups. I've had it for several months, now, and no problems yet. It's not as fast as a HD (it runs…

I have the AMAS, and it works well. The comment about the cables is true, though – I just haven't broken down and gotten the switchboxes yet. Besides the MIDI in, out, and through, it has a microhone jack (they even tell you which Radio Shack microphone will work in…
#51173 #Multisync Monitors Message #51273

I thought that the 31.5KHz (available on most multisyncs) only allowed 800×600 resolution (or was that 640×400? I can't keep track 8^) ); Dave K. says the new modes go to 1280 … Am I missing something fundamental (again)? Thanks everyone for your answers so far – I'm still shopping,…

#11866- Second Descents Message #11878
From: Harry Callesis Amiga Arts Forum · Hot Topics/DM Mania February 14, 1989 10:31 PM
No Weapons might be possible, but all four characters would have to have real high mana (those MON fireballs really chew it up!) and would have to keep spells in reserve while recharging. If you want to try something challenging, do a Solo (one character). I've done two, with different…

If Joe Sr. Software Dude is truly making $25/hr., then he most likely wouldn't have to go back and re-tweak; the tweaking would have been done while he was writing his code, using everything he had learned in his xx years of experience. If he does happen to come up…

Hint: Do you have a save from _before_ you merged the firestaff with the powergem? (look on your game save disk, there should be a DMGAME.SAV and DMGAME.BAK [or somethiong like that]). If so, you can discover the way to take the merged firestaff to any level you want; the…

Think about where the gem would have been if the chest had not been there, and how you got to the chest in the first place. Then "put back the gem".

As a general rule (stress _general_), that is a safe assumption; However, keep in mind that there is enough stuff down there for 4 characters to be pretty evenly equipped (except for the 2 suits of plate armor), so lower does not _always_ mean better. A better guide is usually…

Well, unless you know something that nobody else does (including the people that have been playing the ST version for months [like me ]), you are probably confusing that room with another room. The fields are the whole point to that particular puzzle; to turn them off would make it…

The long staircase is the "skeleton key" staircase – each time you use a skeleton key, another entrance into that staircase opens up. It's a handy way to get from the lower levels back to level 4 (food/practice) quickly. As for the room with the gate/lever, your explorations should have…

Another thing to remember about magazines is a little devil called "lead time". For a magazine you got in you mailbox yesterday (for example), SoftLogik might have had to place the ad in September. It's entirely possible that they _thought_ back then they'd have the program done by now, but…
